View a vista? Really?
And yet pre-patch, people were whining about how much longer it’d take them to do the new dailies because of how far out of their way they’d have to go.
The intent is more aimed at new players and players who only do one specific thing (just PvE, just WvW, just PvP, just dungeons, etc).
They will eventually run out of new things that can throw at any particular player.
Congratulations on pointedly ignoring your surroundings?
It’s pretty obvious, and nobody’s impressed.
Here’s how you get people to experience new things and new places….CREATE NEW THINGS AND NEW PLACES! STOP ALTERING CONTENT AND PASSING IT OFF AS NEW CONTENT. Sometime I feel as if Anet is just rearranging the furniture and calling it a new living room.
Yeah, like that time they re-arranged literally nothing into Dry Top and the Silverwastes, I mean talk about re-using content, amirite?
Filaha – It’s not about how fast you can do the dailies…yes, they’re faster to do in some cases.
Seera – they never said the dailies were aimed at new players
Softspoken, i’ve viewed every vista in the game and have pics of them saved on my hard drive.

Like okay maybe I shouldn’t criticize your life decisions but this still seems like a weird thing to be proud of?

And in the old dailies, they had laurel vendor sometimes, in which all you had to do was talk to a laurel vendor. Just wondering if you posted about that too?

New things are inherently more towards a new player who hasn’t experienced anything than the vet who has. ANet would eventually run out of things that the Vet hasn’t done. They can’t put out new things every single day. There would be days that the Daily would have things that aren’t new to a vet.

Why are you attacking me? I sometimes like to go through them and use them as a background for my screen. Don’t hate the player…hate the game.
And in the old dailies, they had laurel vendor sometimes, in which all you had to do was talk to a laurel vendor. Just wondering if you posted about that too?
That’s exactly what I was going to say.
I always liked that one because I always have at least 1 character in a city, so it was a nice, easy daily to do. That, leveller and skill point….acquirer? (can’t remember the name).
I’m kind of glad to know there are still some easy ones in the mix.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
Seera – they never said the dailies were aimed at new players
The low level dailies are quite clearly aimed at new players. The high level dailies are aimed at older players.
If someone’s already map completed the whole game, clearly neither version of the dailies are going to be making them explore new things, so they’re irrelevant to the purpose of the change. Not every change applies to every person.
And in the old dailies, they had laurel vendor sometimes, in which all you had to do was talk to a laurel vendor. Just wondering if you posted about that too?
Or even the spend 25 badges in WvW. Not as easy as laurel vendor, but still just a couple clicks away.
I have a feeling he didn’t complain about either.

In the old system, my friend and I deliberately tried daily completion while not leaving town. We’ve even succeeded on a few occasions! =P

Yes, it is at the same time dumb, and out of the way. I don’t know what making me click on a vista i already have was meant to accomplish, but it certainly wasn’t about experiencing new things.
Seera – they never said the dailies were aimed at new players
The fact that new players get only an incomplete version of the new daily system suggests they weren’t.

I don’t remember at the moment. I might have, that was dumb as well.

And doing five events in Kryta is a repetitive of five events you’ve probably already done. If you aren’t required to do anything a second time for dailies there wouldn’t be dailies at all. So what’s really the difference if it’s a vista, or a jumping puzzle (many of which you can portal to anyway), or a karma vendor, or the maw, which you have no chance of failing?

The number of available achievements per day is based on the highest-level character on an account:
Levels 1 ā 10: 1 achievement per category
Levels 11 ā 30: 3 achievements per category
Levels 31 ā 80: 4 achievements per category
Says nothing that means that low levels have to only do one. They just don’t get any options. They have to do PvE, PvP, and WvW to get the Daily.
Levels 1-10: That’s so they can try the different aspects of the game. Given it’s really easy to get to level 10 now, this is designed to only last for maybe the first two or three days (depends on how quickly the player finds character that they like) for a casual. One day for the hard core.
Levels 11-30: This is so if they hate all but one of the game areas they can complete the daily anyway, however to do so, they can’t exclude any of the options. ANet can better control what TYPE of content they would have to do to get the Daily each day. To try to get the players to try new content.
This level would likely take a few days at least for a casual. A day or two or a hardcore.
Levels 31-80: A little bit of choice, but they can still direct to some degree. Vista viewer is likely going to push players to get a new Vista more often than not (why waste the Daily on something you’ve already gotten, why not kill two birds with one stone, etc).
Some people don’t leave certain maps. Right now people hadn’t been leaving Silverwastes. The new Daily gets them out of Silverwastes exploring parts of the world they may not have done before.
But eventually you’ve experienced vast majority of the content and the Daily system just doesn’t push for the super specific.
The specificity along with things like Vista Viewer is for the new player. Old players have probably already seen a vast majority of the Vistas. There’s no way it’s not geared primarily toward new players.
They don’t want us staying on one map for all of our game play. So they’re getting the new players early by having them change maps and game play options so they aren’t as likely to get used to just playing on one map or just one aspect of the game.
And in the old dailies, they had laurel vendor sometimes, in which all you had to do was talk to a laurel vendor. Just wondering if you posted about that too?
Whether intended or not, that particular daily had the effect of showing players where to redeem their laurels if they had never previously done so. The WvW badge redemption had the same effect. Now, whether this was the best method for doing this or even intended, I don’t know.
If I were to speculate, this particular daily might have a similar purpose regarding drawing new players to the vistas. The reason I find this questionable though is that the NPE already directs players to points for exploration.
Regardless of the intent, all of these dailies are easy and have always been easy. I can’t say I really care one way or another. The old system was 100% fine in my book and a great improvement over the one before it. This one is fine. I would have preferred they spent their time/resources toward something else.
View a vista?
Hahaha. Lowies dont see any vistas on the map.
I logged in to do my dailies and one of them was to view a vista in ascalon. I lol’d and said ok. I had a character parked in Black Citadel and went to one of the easiest vistas in the city and in less than 10 secs had that one checked off my checklist. Ugh! Why!? Just…uh…why!?
So if the intent of the new dailies was to get me to experience new things and places, welp it failed. IT FAILED. A huge majority of players when faced with this item on their checklist will take the path of least resistance and always go to the easiest vista to check that item off their list. You’ve created a chore for the player base.

Hahaha. Lowies dont see any vistas on the map.
And we don’t know which one they would have. They could have likely had Queensdale Event Completer (zones DO change for this one) or Ascalonian Miner. As they only get one option from each category.
On top of that, it’s really quick to get to level 10 and Vistas are shown on the map at level 10.
And new players can still interact with the vistas.
View a vista?
Hahaha. Lowies dont see any vistas on the map.
If that’s the case, then it’s really a pointless addition. As I said in my response to Vayne, that would have been the only reason to include such a daily in the rotation.
Still, as a means to make players log in, the dailies are going to maintain their function.

You’re not understanding. The argument that the new dailies are trying to get us to experience new content doesn’t work. People will take the path of least resistance to check the daily task off their checklist and hence fall into another routine.
1) Find a waypoint that has easiest(least amount of time and effort) vista to view.
2) Waypoint
3) View (but not really because 99.999% of playerbase will escape out of the view.)
What in 1-3 above is gonna make me change my habit if all I want to do is check the kitten item off my daily checklist in the least amount of time possible.
I guarantee you a majority of the players will find the vistas that take the least amount of effort. So let me explain it so its not ambiguous to you. I’m not complaining that it takes 10 secs to do, I’m complaining that its poor game design.
Maybe I’m wrong, but after people have “viewed/but-not-really-viewed-like-the-game-designers-intended-us-to-view” the same vistas over and over and over and over and over and over, welp, I think some of us are gonna rage.

Then go ahead and rage. The rest of the players will be playing the game, shrugging at the 10-30 seconds it took to get 1 daily accomplished, think nothing of it, and move onto the next task, or whatever part of the game they feel like doing.
Btw, with the time it took for your last post, you could have taken care of the harvest or mining daily and now had 2 of your daily tasks done.
But then again, complaining about it is so much more fun, huh?
And yes, most of us players who have been playing the game for awhile will try and complete these tasks as quickly as possible. Others that are newer to the game?? Yea, it might actually get them to check out areas on the map they haven’t been to. And then again, maybe not. Probably all depends on the player.
But if you feel the need to rage about something so incredibly minor, knock yourself out. I never get obsessed with Anet’s specific language on what they want to accomplish with a certain part of the patch. Maybe they were talking about complete noobs, or newer players with that language that you seem to be so hung up on. /shrug
Me, I get a lot more aps and laurels with the new patch. I like it. I would avoid the daily crap before……now, I can do it in a lot less time with better rewards……it might be routine, but since it only takes 10 or so minutes, hardly any skin off my mouse hand…..it is now a routine that I don’t mind, because of the better rewards for less time involved.
When you play mmorpgs for awhile, they can’t help but have some ‘routine’ play in them, as the player has become so familiar with the game. I don’t mind routines, as long as they don’t seem like a job……10 minutes or so is absolutely no hassle, imo….so I will gladly do it for the decent end rewards. After that miniscule time spent on a daily routine……then I go wvw or work on alts or on the LS or, or, or…..whatever grabs my mood for the evening.

Vistas unlock at level 10. (They can be used before then buy don’t show up on the map and newbies won’t have been told about them.)
I think it’s pretty unlikely anyone below level 10 will be worrying about completing daily achievements. (Especially since those are introduced at level 11.)

Well some of them do take alot longer. Like the wvw objective defender one, last two times it was up I could not get that one for the life of me.
Then there are the other ones that don’t coincide with some peoples play times, like the world boss ones.

I honestly couldn’t care less about the modification made to daily, it was the last thing the game needed and as usual, what was worked on, ignoring the rest. (Bloody bugs plaguing events and dungeons since release as an example)
And you shouldn’t get surprised about the view vista daily, mostly if you consider that just logging in the game now rewards you (and arguably better than doing the actual daily achievements) and last time I checked, it was pretty easy to log in, some typing, some clicking. :P

“rearranging the furniture” is your little pet phrase, not mine. /shrug
I’m sorry, but I just don’t hold the same sort of obsession with bits of Anet’s language in patches, or with fairly minor changes to certain parts of the game. I am too old to fly off the handle about something so completely inconsequential in the grand scheme of things. It is a GAME, and I treat it as such. My life won’t be changed, or screwed up, or lifted from the depths, or whatever because of some changes to a game.
I enjoy GW2, and when it comes to games and entertainment, that is ALL that counts with me. To enjoy, to have fun, to smile, to be satisfied with the down time that gives me a break from real life…..that is the point of a game with me.
I won’t obsess about little bits of language, or go off because something minor was tweaked or changed, or rage about something in game that goes against what I think the game should or shouldn’t be. Heck, I hardly even think about that stuff, as long as I am having fun. If I were to get to that sort of stress level about it, you wouldn’t even see me here or in game anymore.
Maybe if I was still in my late teens/early 20s I might rage about similar things. But not anymore…..it is just not worth it.
I like most of this last patch. I still enjoy the game a lot. It is as simple as that.

Some people complaining the new dailies are much “grind” and is too hard for casual when OP complaining view a vista is too “easy” and shouldn’t be a part of achievement.
At the end, it is all Anet’s fault because they can’t make the game fit someones’s personal taste.

Not hard. Annoying. There’s a difference.

Well daily gather would require you to move from node to node and push F multiple times …

I guess it depends on what you are used to doing. Personally, i never liked badge spender and laurel vendor (though i kind of understood why they were there), but in all other cases it could be done by playing normally.
…well, I guess for WvW people the badge vendor daily would also be done naturally, by just buying siege.
Wait, there was also story dungeon one – i knew that at some point we’ll run out of people in a guild that still needed help with the story. Or alts that need dungeons unlocked. Which brings us to the vista daily. Here also, at some point the vistas are going to run out – and there’s simply not much point for most people to do them more than once. So, basically, for those people it’s even dumber than vendor dailies (because you do use vendors more than once, and you might have a legitimate, not daily-based reason to do so).
Well daily gather would require you to move from node to node and push F multiple times …
Also, gathering is useful by itself.

Please tell me you’re not defending the only two new zones not named SouthSun. That’s hilarious and a bit sad. To the OP – your theory ia correct. Rearranging and dressing up existing content has been Anet’s MO since launch. Ignore the white knights. They’re getting frustrated more and more players are coming out with valid criticisms about their beloved.
I guess I’d like to ask people: Where does it End?
So Anet after a few weeks looks at their metrics. Everyone is going to the same/easiest vista. They’ve gone into a routine. Well this is not what they intended! So what now. Do they spend time and money on naming each vista and randomizing them into the daily: View Vista1 in Kryta, View Vista2 in Kryta, View VistaX in Y. Where does it end?

Are you seriously that hung up on the vista thing? If you don’t want to do the vista, then don’t do it. I am sure there will be plenty of times when I won’t do the vista(just because the daily will have a couple things I can do in wvw while fighting).
I don’t know, it is probably not important at all……just curious why the viewpoint thing is bugging you so much? Why didn’t the gathering, or recycler option of the old dailies not bug you as much?
Is it because of the specific language in the update?
You don’t have to answer any of my questions……just curious, but it is no biggy.
Mmo players with a screw loose vs mmo players with two screws loose. All very important stuff.

My guess is that OP thinks that every single daily will have ‘view vista’ and doesn’t realize that the dailies will be different daily. That he doesn’t realize there will be a rotation of a list. My guess is also that OP doesn’t realize that the vista is put in there for the low level people to do so they can get the achieve points, since they might not be able to get to the higher level zones to do the other achieves.
I did see this ‘view a vista’ daily today and It made me laugh as well. I have no problems with it, it just seemed like a freebie. I think it is worth remembering that dailies are meant to be quite simple tasks for a simple reward – they are not really designed to be challenging. Also bear in mind that they have to accommodate for all player levels; whilst many my mock the vista daily, for new players it is an acceptable goal.

You’re not understanding. The argument that the new dailies are trying to get us to experience new content doesn’t work.
This may come as a surprise to you, and hold on to your hat, but not everything is aimed at you.
If you’ve already map completed, then clearly anything added in to spur people to explore new areas is not meant for you.
If you already had a character pre-trait change, then obviously the trait unlock change wasn’t meant for you.
If your characters were all already level 80 and completed the personal story, then obviously the NPE wasn’t meant for you.
Still, regardless of all that, it’s any person’s choice whether or not to do something new or something they’ve already done. People can choose whether to go to a new one or just go to one they’ve already been to to get it over with. If you choose to ignore the intended purpose, then that doesn’t invalidate its intended purpose.

Maybe. On the other hand, i find it funny, that the same people keep saying, at the same time, that daily achievements are meant for veteran players and ap farmers (so casuals should not complain), and yet they are aimed at new people (so veterans should not complain). I start to get a feeling that the dailies are simply not aimed at anyone.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
I don’t know. This whole thing is so simple to me.
If you don’t care about achievement points at all, you get more loot now for doing less. Pretty sure most of the population of the game is happy with more loot for doing nothing, in spite of a few loud voices on the forums.
The other rewards, with the exception of achievement points are extra. You get new stuff. Today I crafted my daily ascended item and got 3 ectos for my trouble. That to me is better, not worse. That’s an improvement.
But you also get 10 achievement points for doing 3 of the dailies. That means if you’re an achievement hunter you also have it better, because you used to have to do ten achievements (some of which were harder) to get, you get more achievment points for less work.
Those who don’t care about achievement points are better off. Those who care about achievement points are, for the most part, better off.
Even if you only get the 3 dailies every other day, you get more rewards with the free stuff and the stuff you get and the same number of achievement points.
For most people this is a win.
NPE – rearranging & removing furniture. Trait Overhaul – rearranging furniture. Dailies – rearranging furniture. I think the player base is being trolled.
You’re seriously whining about something that took you all of 10 seconds to complete?
Wow, the game will probably die tomorrow because of this horrid change.
It’s certainly enough to rage-quit over.
/sarcasm off
You’re not understanding. The argument that the new dailies are trying to get us to experience new content doesn’t work. People will take the path of least resistance to check the daily task off their checklist and hence fall into another routine.
1) Find a waypoint that has easiest(least amount of time and effort) vista to view.
2) Waypoint
3) View (but not really because 99.999% of playerbase will escape out of the view.)What in 1-3 above is gonna make me change my habit if all I want to do is check the kitten item off my daily checklist in the least amount of time possible.
To your bolded statement…
How would Arenanet et al perfectly implement that strategy across all achievements? Measure your past game-play and only offer achievements for things you have never done or rarely done? Make achievements so obscure that no one has done the activity before? You are raging against the developers not standing on your throat and forcing you do everything you haven’t done before.
If the new dailies are going to include more difficult or at least more rarely done activities, the dailies will also need to include simpler activities.
They’re special! They got aspirations.”
