Another rant against Legendary Crafting. You may quit reading if you want.
I’ll give a specific example: killing the Vinetooth Prime to begin crafting Nevermore. I’ve been at this for the better part of a year now. Trying to get a group together to take on the creature is difficult to do in the time allotted when everyone is focused on gaining access to the Eastern Gate and the city chests afterward. There is no guarantee that, if you should get a group, and activate the portal, the Prime will show. And this is one of the first steps of the process.
Having to go through a dungeon, raid, or fractal, something that is always available is one thing. Win or lose you can start over right away with a new build, group, or profession, but having to wait an indeterminate amount of time for the right circumstances seems a bit too much of a gamble for the very first step.
Am I being unreasonable in my outlook?

I think if it was always up I;d disagree with you, but yes since it is only up for 10mins at the end of an event cycle and needs a coordinated group often outside of your control, then I think this is valid.

I think come the expansion, there will need to be reevaluation of some HoT content just to make it more accessible to the lower population. Vinetooth Prime is a good example of this, with possible solutions as;

- Better scaling
- Adjusting the event chain to make it always available
- Removing the time limit (my personal preference)

Eh? I think you are literally doing it wrong. VP spawns at the end/completion of the east watch chain. It should not be bumping up against octovine unless you are taking a very long time to complete the chain.

Can be killed with a party of players. I’ve seen it done with as few as three. It only fails because people do not use CC and for whatever reason try to throw more players at it without understanding how scaling works.

This is much easier with fewer people. Stay after the meta, do the east watch events. If you can’t get a group USE LFG and pop a tag. Spend as much time as you can explaining that people have to break the bar…but this is easier with three or four guildies than a big group of people. I’ve done this with four people more than once.

I’ve done it for three legendaries so far and never had a problem, most recently I made HOPE, which was just two weeks ago.

This is only a problem if you try to jump in at the last minute and get a group together. Stay in the zone, do the east watch achievements bring plenty of CC and this is doable. Last time I tried it took me two tries to get it done.

Use the LFG tool and tell them to bring heavy CC.

All you need to do is finish east towers, which are the fastest. Also smaller group can kill it easier then larger. The more people the harder to CC and most people can’t or dont use cc aayway.
So get 5-10 ppl and do it. Use LFG tool

This. Oh god yes so much this.

It’s like people running headfirst into a brick wall which grows with each person joining in. Yet no one is smart enough to just use the door…

To be fair, the door is slightly obscured by vines that suddenly sprouted from the ground. There is some text in the event that hints at how to deal with VTP, but people new to the strategy would have to see someone post it in /say or /squad or read about it outside the game.
