wondering can all the crafting materials needed to craft a vision crystal be bought from TP? if not, which materials cannot be bought?

The four materials that go into crafting a vision crystal are all account-bound. Bloodstone dust (refined to bricks), empyreal fragments (refined to stars), dragonite ore (refined to ingots), and an augur stone (an item bought from Miyani for 20 skill points).

Bloodstone dust comes from champ boxes, dragonite ore comes from big open world bosses and temples (and a few things in wvwvw), and empyreal fragments come from dungeons, fractals, open world chests, jumping puzzles, and varying things in wvwvw.

So, to answer your question, nothing can be bought straight from the trading post.

You also need Obsidian Shards that can’t be bought by gold.

wow, that would be quite a lot of farming needed.

does anyone have any estimate as to how long it would take to farm only the account bound items needed?

About 50 champ boxes for bloodstone dust, 25 dungeons for the empyreal fragments (or less, if you farmed chests in the world and in jumping puzzles), 17 temple events or ~25-50 world bosses for the dragonite ore. How much time it would take is up to the person’s usual gameplay style. Generally at least one component (either dragonite or empyreals) would require lot of effort and time beyond what you usually do, while bloodstone dust is something most people eventually want to get rid of before they drown in it.

you can get like 1~2 dragonite per day, all the chests it drops from (in quantity) are daily. couple hours each day for a week.

50 champ boxes is like an hour of frostgorge champ train.

25 dungeons is like 1-2 hours a day for a week.

dust no problem. that you can do in a night.

dragonite will take longer. plan events, get familiar with the timer sites, and they are limited on server resets. plan for weeks, unless you do WvW often.

shards are also not a problem. farm fast dungeon runs.

as for salvaging and getting everything you want, plan for a couple weeks if you are starting from scratch.
