Vistas...maybe a hidden feature
Hadn’t noticed this but will give it a look.
Yes, vistas can definitely give you information about the area that would otherwise be tough to get. Not always, but it does happen. I can’t recall any specific instance of it, but I do remember experiencing it myself.
Lion’s arch pirate puzzle is the best (most obvious) example of this.

I like the vistas in Hoelbrak and Wayfarer’s Foothills the best. They show you giant features that are too big to be noticed normally in game unless you are the kind of person that looks up a lot. I have noticed several places to visit while watching vistas, although I often wish the camera pointed away from you, instead of where you came from.

Pat on the back to the ANet level designers; not only do they make beautiful maps, but they also position harvesting nodes/vistas/poi near areas that they want people to be drawn to.
It shows a great deal of planning and attention to detail for whomever helped create the world.
