Naysayers gonna say nay, but this is easily Game of the Year for me. This game is not perfect (no game is) and I’m very critical of the game myself, but when I compare it to other games that came this year, Guild Wars 2 has 10 times the replay value (only Diablo III comes close) is a lot of fun, was released in a relatively stable state for a game of this size, has one of the best visual/PC requirement ratio (mostly due to its amazing artists), has no monthly fee and still pushes one major patch a month that aren’t even DLCs, innovates in a gaming genre that has been stagnating since WoW and the endless stream of WoW clones, etc, etc, etc.

Yeah, not perfect, but considering what it did versus what other games were released in 2012, it deserves the Game of the Year 2012 title. I can’t vote because I don’t want to make a GameSpot account and be spammed with game ads, but I would definitely give it my vote if I had an account.

That said, I highly doubt it’s gonna get GotY 2012 it since it’s not a console game…

Not GOTY quality, but it definitely deserves some love.

It shouldn’t be goty for the main reason that goty generally means mainstream, and I don’t think GW2 is mainstream, which is why tons of people are complaining about it being supposedly broken and how “successfully” it supposedly be. In fact, I’m not sure what the correct ideal is for this game, but it IS definitely something new for its kind. So its hard to judge.

As for the people who ask why we are in the forums and not playing the game if we enjoy it – because some of us are in a position where we have internet access but cant play… like being at work.

Hell NO, so far i’ve been playing a lot of MMO’s and enjoying them, this is the only one that made me quit mmo’s and buy a PS3 …..

It is just everyone personal opinion for Gamespot GOTY.
You need to play other MMO and SPRG games so that you can see the difference.

There is no other game out there that provides so much great stuff to do, and honestly after playing GW2 every other MMO (and most single player games) just look ugly and play like stiff turtles.

I would have voted for them in a heart beat if they didn’t spin their PR talk and lie to me with a straight face.

I may vote next year when they get around to fixing the countless bugs that’s been here since launch.

How bout best game late August through mid November, that seems very accurate to me. If this was pre lost shores I would have already voted for this game but after the bait and switch anet pulled not a chance.

I voted for Max Payne 3 and Borderland 2.

Borderlands 2 is definitely deserving. Not sure about Max Payne 3 never played it, I did play the original and thoroughly enjoyed it but the Max Payne 3 trailers didn’t indicate it had any similarities.

Well MP3 is made by Rockstar and i have never disliked any of their games. I played through MP3 multiple times and it is amazing and so is Borderland 2.

Yeah rockstar is generally quite a good developer, I appreciate the effort they put into their titles, they are very entertaining.

Voted. GW2 is easily the best MMO ever released, and it’s launch was the least troublesome I’ve played as of yet. Furthermore the game is more than alive 2 months after release which is an achievement in and of itself.

Ye some things happened which I don’t agree with but that doesn’t diminish the fact that GW2 clearly is the best MMO on the market currently. For that, I cast my vote.

Link isn’t working for me… but I’m not sure I’d vote GW2 as GOTY… Maybe best MMO, though not best RPG. As it currently stands, I feel there are more polished games. I will certainly acknowledge bold concepts, but GOTY and “best of…” is about delivering on those concepts and not just big talk.

He isn’t trolling by voicing his opinion.

Ned is right when he says this game is a sinking ship. Most of the content goes against the manifesto and the promises ANet vowed to keep through development. It is a boring grind with bland combat. The performance issues haven’t been remedied and the game is just not fun to play anymore.

Sorry if my opinion hurts.

The game is average at best certainly not good.

Not GOTY, but definitively a very good game, worth every penny I spent on this 60$ purchase.

GW2 is not GOTY material. It may have been before fractals killed the world off and drops were reduced to abysmal rates.

Impossible for GW2 to win GOTY even if it was really that good.

It is up against games available on computer, xbox 360, playstation 3, nintendo, etc. There’s just not enough PC only players to get a GOTY voting win against games on all other platforms.
