Vote for GW2
uuuh the game is in for a pretty kitten competition. If it was Guild Wars 2 versus Borderlands 2 it would have a better chance of winning, however now it’s against a very good opponent – Dishonored. Both games proved to do something new and innovative. Both games deserve their votes.
Voted for Guild Wars 2, but can’t wait to see how the voting turns out.
Notice how the top 4 games all came out during basically the “oscar season” for video games (granted, this is usually a good time for video games as titles get put on Xmas lists)…. The award is best game of the year, not this year’s game with the best potential. Maybe next year, I’d consider GW2, but certainly not for this year. Though I’m not a huge fan of any of the four titles vying for the top spot, I’d personally go with Dishonored.
Voted for Dishonered. People should stop exaggrating, overrating GW2.
How can you pit absolute different games against each other? Doesn’t make sense to me.
This is only about exposure and internet traffic.
“Whose Charr is this?”- “Ted’s.”
“Who’s Ted?”- “Ted’s dead, baby. Ted’s dead.”
obviously voted for GW2.
its epic, and i spend an insane amount of time in it.
250h so far.
and i’m looking to start doing some wvwvw.
I voted for the Witcher 2,not voting anymore /angryface
witcher was kick kitten too !
but gw2 is seriously a design feat, and a baby step into the future of fantasy mmo.
love the action gameplay in pvp, wvwvw and pve.
love the scale of the world.
challenging fights in some packed area / dungeons.
not perfect yet, but the beginning of a great voyage.
Never heard of dishonered

You’re just new in the game
250h isnt that new.
i heard dishonored is about 20h.
thats more than 10 times more.
and its not over yet…
and im still high.
250h isnt that new.
i heard dishonored is about 20h.
If you’re good at it it’s more like 6h. But the game is really good It will hopefully get DLCs with more story missions later. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not that the story is not finished, it’s just that hardcore gamers managed to start running trough it really fast want MORE of it. The game is really awesome. You should definitely try it

Yes because single player games(one that isn’t even a rpg) will always have the same hours as a mmorpg lets get real here

Really? Sigh…
There are somethings shared between games that can be judged regardless of their genre; like art direction, story telling, (voice) acting, gameplay, innovation, “fun factor”, etc… People put various weights/emphasis on different categories, there’s no “unified system of judging a game”.
By these metrics, a individual judges which is overall better.
Like seriously…. are you saying that if I handed you Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Duke Nuke Em’ Forever (assuming you had the ability to play both of them), you couldn’t come back to me and say which one was better?

the hardcore gamers are on this forum. showing off their full exo 100% map and sometimes legendary gear and also complaining about the game…
every game have a finite ammount of pve content, be it mmo or sp game.
and gw2 is a 200+h ride.
its epic.
most haters are only thinking about the fact that they want more and they keep grinding.
but in reality, they finished the game. you needed a big “game over” on a black screen or a cutscene to explain that ?
every time you did a new event, new dungeon, new map…
remember those moments and… vote gw2.
but in reality, they finished the game. you needed a big “game over” on a black screen or a cutscene to explain that ?
You are never supposed to finish an MMO not to count an RPG, isnt a console RPG game like the legend of zelda.
well, if repeating pve is your fun. allright.
otherwise pvp / wvwvw, will hopefuly get some love and this game will rock even more.
I mean the folks who are claiming time as a factor for why they think GW2 is awesome, just consider that last year G4tv placed Skyward Sword as game of the year…. which is probably around 16-30 hours of gameplay depending on your pace (and really no different ways to play it). Skryim on the other hand had hundreds if not thousands of hours of gameplay…. scale of content does not necessary equal great game. In fact, I’d encourage folks who’ve never played it to try the first Dead Space game. It can literally take about 6-7 hours to beat and was actually a pretty kitten good game.

GW2 game of the year?
LOL no.

Thank you for anticipating that I do not understand this and for explaining it in detail.
All of the above is certainly true, which is incidentally why I actually read reviews, in particular by people who do that for a living. I compare that with my own experiences and over time I can trust certain sources for myself.
Zelda and Duke eh. Notice your little “if” there? If I handed you. Notice above already a comment “what is dishonoured?”?
Not only are the voters not even required to know the games, they are also forced to chose between genres.
Unless there are categories, perhaps I missed those – the optical design led my simple mind to believe it was more like a tournament. Sort of eliminationish like. Maybe it was the word deathmatch.
Zelda is the best game because of the story.
Scratch that, the Duke has the best lines.
Popularity contest – maybe. Exposure, definitely. Great way to get internet traffic.
Judging art or innovation is not what this is about.

I laugh at any attempt to make GW2 GotY! The game is nowhere near the hype. The story is a joke written by a school child and the voice acting is the worst I have ever seen in a game.
I was watching one of those text to speech videos on YTube the other day and I swear it sounded just like my human warrior!
It seems to me the whole thing feels rushed and poorly executed in so many areas. But they had YEARS to make it.
IGN also put GW2 in their top 10 finalist.
anyway.
maybe if they put 2012 forum of the year then GW2 will win.
probably because it have the biggest number of players that hate the game but play it for over 300h. full time job btw.
excelsior!

You must be too young to remember Resident Evil or Tenchu then.

No, not too young, I did not play either of those tittles though. Were they bad?

I told you that you were new.. you’ll soon be repeating everything over and over again. Mind you

they weren’t bad gameplay wise. They were horrible voice acting wise though.
Tenchu

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JvJCKq8BvPs Deep Fear
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kihGm4KfY7k Deus Ex
This is bad voice acting. Guild Wars 2 actually has famous voice actors and does a good job at it.
Now bad story wise – The Scourge Project: Episode 1 and 2, Chrono Trigger, Mas Effect 3. That’s bad stories. Now Guild Wars 2 has a lot of comical elements, but it’s not horrible story wise either.

Not to mention bug ridden.
Gw2 ftw
I laugh at all the haters who play the game like it’s a full time job.

“Guild Wars 2 is an innovative MMORPG that lets you play how you want. Some fall in love with its beautifully realized, massive world with seemingly unending adventure, while others find the title’s balanced player versus player to be where its strength lies”
Hmm… did i get a different GW2? voted for Dishonored.

no.
why?
ill do wvwvw or pvp. wait for new content.
and/or move on to other game while rembering gw2 as one of the best game i ever played, as i would or a single player game.
im not a grinder, by that i mean, not a content repeater.
d3 was over for me the day i cleared it on inferno difficulty.
and i stopped playing wow after my first raid.

dude.
GW2 is SAVING the mmo world.
liberating it from the wow curse.
it does so many thing good (and itll improve).
in the next few years youll see A LOT of new action combat mmo with vistas / wvwvw / pvp / point of interest etc coming out on the market….
then youll realize who saved you.
no monthly btw…
the wow era of mmo is over.
now we will get the mmos we deserve!
they are not supposed to be eternal (aside for a small community.. gosh, ultima online got a patch today!)
but mmo should be a one shot pay, 300-500h content, single pay with some cash shop.
finish it, then move on.
great isnt it ? i want more games like this!!!
I think we’re forgetting best game of the year means best game this year…. As in how the game is right now in this year. Given the current state of the game, and even if you wanna consider the directions it’s going… I don’t think it’s GOTY material based on the other candidates.
I would also say the WoW era isn’t over yet since it still has a larger player base and that the whole no-subscription MMO philosophy has it’s fair share of problems as the subscription-based philosophy.
mmos are not meant to be eternal.
see it as a 400-500h game and everything will be fine.
there is a lot of new mmo coming next year.
why keep playing ultima online ?
unless you are keen on the “internet community” thing…
some people need that, maybe.
In the Review video G4 made for Guild Wars 2, at 1:13 into the video.
It says the “quests are nothing new to MMO’s and are Fetch/Kill/Recover quests.”
This is not true. I have never played a MMORPG that has quests like GW2. They are diverse and more different than any other MMORPG I have ever played (And I have been playing MMO’s for over a decade.)
Not every single one is a boring fetch/recover quest like in most MMO’s, there are some where you have to stop poachers, or turn into pigs and hunt for truffles,
or feed chickens/bulls and water plants and stop bandits from literally setting fire to bails of hay,
or turn into a plant-wolf and sniff out suspicious smells and play with baby plant-wolves,
or hunt a giant pre-historic shark,
or “Help the ogres of Agrak Kraal tame pets to prepare for the coming battle”…
What about the three maps (Orr) dedicated to a zombie invasion, taking place in an area that is made out of coral and obviously looks like it used to be underwater? DID I MENTION THE UNDERWATER FIGHTING???
This game has so much more potential than what they described and so much CURRENT FEATURES than what is described, they should have used this video instead of that kitten G4 review: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ax-_06Acj8Y
No wonder it is not currently in first place. That stupid 20hour single player game about the plague is in the lead… It looks like an old Call of Duty: WII game, but with teleporting…

I wonder if this is something similar to what the Skryim fanbois said before Zelda: Skyward Sword trounced it in the voting.

Yeah you get to feed cows and water planets, exciting.

Orr the land of copy and pasted mob’s. Yeah you got me on underwater fighting that kitten is just out of this world. :/
^^ Yeah seriously on underwater fighting… Love how almost all my necro utility skills are blocked when underwater
Let’s see I can use summons or basically nothing…. hmmmm
