Yet it works both ways, if GW2 was at the bottom of the list we would also be full of posts about “the game failing”. Still meaningless of course

As meaningless as this kind of thing is in the long run, it interests me that (1st place) GW2 has managed to garner more than twice the number of votes so far as has (3rd place) WoW, and that WoW has earned almost 10x the number of votes as (4th place) ArcheAge. That’s a huge disparity.

Again, pretty meaningless, but it’s still fascinating to see for me. I do think the top three candidates so far are pretty justified, but I don’t think ArcheAge deserves to be “the best of the rest”.

Here’s the various reasons why it’s meaningless, regardless of outcome:

1. Not everybody goes to that website. Or has heard of it. Or cares about it. For some people, such as myself, literally the only reason we even know about this poll is because of this post.

2. It’s not really a fair comparison, now is it? Reason being, the question is not at all “Which is best?” The question is “Which have you or are you playing?” If one has not played FF14, for example, they obviously won’t be voting for it over GW2, or one who has only played WoW will not vote for GW2. As such, they’re not comparing which is better, but just saying which they play. I doubt anywhere even near 1% of the votes have (or eventually will have) played all of the MMOs on the list to make an accurate comparison.

3. Internet poll numbers are always skewed by people voting repeatedly, and these people flat out make a rule saying you can vote more than once, but just not more than once per 8 hours (which can be ignored by anyone who wishes to). Further, a game where the players are desperate to prove something will have people who will intentionally skew the numbers in an attempt to prove it. A game where the players don’t really care about meaningless internet polls will not.

4. GW2 would obviously have the top votes because the other games have content that their players are actually playing through. (Shots fired.)

5. It only allows for upvotes. If a game has 100,000 people that are happy with the game but 1,000,000 people who think it’s crashing and burning, those 1,000,000 people are irrelevant to the poll but relevant to the question of “best”.

I voted for WoW, because Blizzard has better communication with customers on the “stuff” they are working.

Lol, just kidding, never even played Eve.

Though I’m still more likely to vote for it.

After two years of largely defending this game (I’ve had my squabbles but mostly with the poorly handled monetization and economy) I’ve stopped recommending it to my friends and fellow gamers.

ANet has openly admitted they will not make the changes necessary for the game to have build diversity, to address the strategic issues of PvP and WvW, to have content diversity between the open world and dungeons, or to have an economy and monetization system that is honest and makes rewards and goals reasonably available for casual players. Not to say the game is awful, I’m still playing, but less, usually my dailies, the LS every two weeks, and a bit of gold gain once or twice a week. But every time I log out I look back and think ‘That was it?’, followed by ‘And apparently that’s all there is ever going to be.’

If they’re apparently happy with a game that eternally feels like mid beta, then they should be happy with the players they have.

Eve seriously has an outstanding bond with their community and have them informed and active talk about future implementations. They have great once a year information days party in norway (I think its norway) and talk alot with their attendees. It`s more like a family gathering than anything else from the videos I seen. Dev`s you can touch, drink and brawl with. One reason their playerbase and the company is so tight knitted. Also one of the only companies I know that employee core gamers into their dev teams…. you do notice. Played for quite a while still fantasy will stay my favourite.

Well I know it’s meaningless, but I’ll still vote for GW2 as nothing else really matches it, once you’re past the novelty factor.

The only things that matter are quarterly revenue and net profit. They are a better predictive measure of the near future investment.

To me, that says:

-GW2 players must have been frequenting MMO news sites for more updates more fervently and stumbled upon this before most other games’ player base.

-WoW players were late, likely playing their new expansion, but are still planning to blow the survey out of the water with overbearing numbers.

-Other MMO players probably tried but they’ll understand how futile it is and not bother tossing their votes in.

Almost everyone here is already discrediting this vote as meaningless and having no impact, be it white knights or haters.

The problem is, there will be those select “special” few who will use this poll and its results to fuel their agendas, regardless of the integrity (gw2 wins “See? still the best!”, gw2 loses “see! it sucks/dying/dead/etc!”)

Latest EVE trailer says it all really, I can’t not vote for EVE :p Sent 1 vote for GW2 though, Love both games for different reasons

I’m pretty sure it was there yesterday when I first saw this thread (sometime mid-morning-ish UK time). It was near the bottom somewhere. Either way who cares it’s there now, everyone’s happy.

The leading game has 9500 votes.
WOW with over 10 million accounts has just 7900 votes.
I’m not sure this is even representing something when 0.07 % of the people vote.
I guess everyone is busy having fun with expansions while our guys have the time to vote on unknown sites.

I can think of several reasons for SW:TOR to go F2P, none of which have anything to do with it being bad.

It already had the deck stacked against it due to Star Wars Galaxies previous.

Just like how people complain about GW2 because it’s not like GW1.

Vindictus was alright, largely because of the combat, but the lack of strategic depth and challenge made it wear off quickly. If they added more to the combat system it could be something special.

i’m not trying to derail this thread, but i think vindictus combat destroys guild wars 2 combat. im a guild wars 2 warrior but I can only use my shield for 3 seconds once every 30 seconds, but in vindictus, I CAN ACTUALLY USE MY SHIELD whenever needed and actually block attacks at a moments notice. gw2 is just silly.
