WTFreak?? Scrolls of Knowledge/Skill Points
Lucky. You would have wasted your skill points/gold if you did that before this new patch hit. You actually didn’t lose any you should probably read up on the update notes

i actually had no idea they were going to be converted other wise i would have D:
You really should check the website, website blogs, videos, etc before posting.
A new trait program wen into the game, CONVERTING your extra scrolls of knowledge into spirit shards. When your thief is lvl 80, it should have ALL of their skills and traits unlocked.
They have talked about this change for weeks, and therefore the majority knew about this change.
Also the new icon is fine, there is nothing wrong with it.
Please calm down. No one lost anything.
They automatically converted the scrolls because you would have complained about needing to click through an entire stack. They would have only given you spirit shards either way.
Hero points are the new currency used for skills and traits and they’re meant to be a limited resource only gained through leveling from 1-80 and hero challenges.
i knew all about the trait update just didnt notice the skill points were going to be updated :/
i just needed to post it to get it off my chest :D
Now that it’s off your chest, do you realize that you lucked out by not using them? Unlocked traits would not have been grandfathered in, you would have just used up your Mystic Forge currency on nothing.

I thought they said that the used points did get grandfathered. Your skills points and unlocks – ( points from leveling+ points from challenges)= forge currency. I of course forgot to take note before the change, but fairly certain that ess in an article from anet.

No, what happened was that you got as many HP as your level + challenges done unlocked, then they spent them for you using your highest trait lines and slotted utilities to decide what to give you. I think they only spent the ones from leveling, though, as I had 50+ points available on my 43 Ele so I was able to mostly swap him to Fire when he was in Water thanks to the fall damage trait being what I had spent points on.
Spending extra skill points to unlock things would not have helped or changed any of that.
I had a stack and a half.
Really, even if you HAD spent them your excess Skill Points became spirit shards anyway, so the point is moot.
I do agree that the icon is ugly and bland though. Throw some color on that, ANet. The good ol’ aqua blue or maybe a nice mystical violet.

The uncapped version can be a little hard to see on certain areas of the map. Just a small QoL thing.

If you spent excess skill points, you’d NOT get spirit shards for them. You ONLY got spirit shards for each point your characters had unused. If you had 400, spent 100 of them, you’d only get 300, NOT 400.
Gratz on not using them. They’re worth much more as spirit shards.

would you please elaborate on this and provide quotes? I am super interested in this topic.
Thanks in advance!

They’re not worth more or worth less now than they were before the update because it was a 1:1 conversion. Basically with the trait system, repeatable SP were no longer useful, and were changed into a currency dedicated to purchasing the items Miyami sells at the forge.

Vayne said they are worth much more now as spirit shards. I just would like to know.

And I elaborated as to why that’s wrong. You dont get more of them post-patch, and you arent spending less compared to pre-patch. Their value has literally not changed at all.
People will still use spirit shards to upgrade siege and mats for WvW and PvE respectively, I don’t need to find quotes, you can google it. There’s plenty written about it. Frankly I’d upgrade siege to start. Look and see what it’s selling for on the TP.

You need to read what the OP was complaining about. He was complaining he didn’t spend his skill point scrolls to unlock skills, which would have been worth nothing at all.
Do you disagree that spending them on upgrades, instead of saying unlocking all your skills last week is a downgrade?
You really do need to read the OP.

no man sorry for the misunderstanding i just wanted to know how the spirit shards are worth more than the previous skill points. Just for my own edification.
i guess i watched some videos about getting some hard(maybe a bit harder) weapons that you could get with recipes using skill points in the mystic forge. I wonder if spirit shards still work with those recipes? not sure
