So I’ve been gone from GW2 for a while now and I came back to find out it’s free to play? That got me thinking, since I bought it a while ago, do people who bought it get any extra benefits over people who play for free?

No, (Well there are some restrictions to the F2P accounts)

The game went free to play when they released HoT, as people who bought HoT get the core game for free, there are topics and topics on this as it was a sore sticking point.

But the short story is no, you don’t get anything extra/free if you already bought the game.

So yes, you are better off as someone who paid for their copy than someone who downloaded it for free

f2p accounts are very restricted, so, yes, GW2 owners do get quite a few benefits over them.

Besides the above, veterans got an outfit just for being vets and got extra character slots for prepurchasing HoT (no longer applicable). Also having older characters gets you birthday gifts. Mostly, though, once you peruse the above link you should realize that P4F players have huge restrictions on inventory, trading, and communication.
