Walking and running
I’ve read it, but I don’t see exactly what you’re asking for the devs to do. If you want running or walking to be on shift you can set it up that way on the keybinds.
ANet may give it to you.
I think the OP is asking for the character to move gradually from walking to running at full speed instead of instantly going from one to the other when you push the button.
In-game it’s completely one or the other. Either you’re moving at a slow walk or you’re running. If you bind a key to toggle between them and press it while you’re moving the change is instant. Whereas in real life if you were walking and started running you’d speed up gradually – jogging for a few steps before breaking into a full run. Same the other way around – you’d slow down gradually instead of instantly going from running to walking speed.
At the moment my solution for this is to try and remember to toggle between them while standing still – so I’m either walking or running and the abrupt change isn’t so noticeable. (Except if I was walking and suddenly I’m being attacked, then I don’t care how it looks, I just change it straight away.)
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
I think it’s fine the way it is. It might not be perfectly realistic right now, but I can’t say it’s ever bothered me, and I’m wary of intentionally making my actions less responsive by adding a transition.
Really, though, I think this suggestion is too much work for too little gain. It’s a minor issue (if it is an issue) about a feature that I don’t think a lot of people use. On the scale of animation additions I, personally, would like to see, this comes in below a single new emote.
I heard Dear Esther is a great walking simulator …
It really shouldn’t be surprising that our toons can break into an instant-run at the drop of a hat.
After all, they can out-run a centaur.
