This is a rage inducing post – sorry – not sorry.

Anet, just don’t let pets or AI controlled characters tag enemies. If they don’t tag mobs, the mobs will not drop loot.

This way, only attacks from your equipped weapons can tag enemies and it will be reduced to auto attacking staff 1 guardians behind trees and pets can still help take enemies out faster for people that are farming while not AFK.

It wont end it, but it will minimize it.

Your mistake is believing that the players are AFK, which isn’t something you can know. If you do believe that, though, report them in-game for “botting”, and the anet support team will deal with the issue.

It’s worth noting, though, that if they are not afk, simply idling there watching while stuff gets looted, then that’s anet approved…

While I agree it would be good if something could be done about AFK farming, I don’t think punishing people who play Ranger or MM Necromancer is a good solution.

If they wanted to counter auto loot specifically, they only need to disable it if there hasn’t been any input within the last 30 seconds. But then people would simply use macros, so there’s no point.

How about if you keep killing the same mob without killing anything else, have diminished returns kick in? If your really not AFK you are not going to be sitting in one spot killing the same mob over and over again and if your just watching and not playing, why would you care? Sure, they could just keep moving to another spot and start on another mob, but at least they would have to be doing something.

I thought there were already diminishing returns in play:

Affected activities:

Dungeons, in which the completion rewards for an account are cut severely after the first run for each path.

Open world:

Dynamic events, in which the completion rewards are reduced for a given character after clearing or failing a total of 10 events.

Loot from enemies, in which foes tend to drop less loot of progressively lower quality, for a character remaining in the same area for long periods of time.

Granted Death – Necro
Consumed Hate – Thief
Unlucky Scrub – Ranger

My thoughts exactly.

Edit- Honestly afk farming at Lake Doric isn’t nearly as good as being active there, that’s why I just log off if I know I’m not gonna be at the comp the whole time. If people wanna afk there, instead of shoot stuff… that’s their loss.

Considering I utilize my pet as a ranger to tag mobs for things like SW meta while I do something like open a chest, no, a pet tagging something should count. I’m using a part of my class to get participation in a kill, it’s part of my damage and I can use it to conveniently do something else in-game like uncover and open chests, or harvest something.

If you want to stop AFK farming, make the game see them as AFK if there is no input from a keyboard or mouse in X amount of time, regardless of if something has attacked them or a pet attacks something.

A close idea would be : any mob can only drop something if it exists long enough. As AFK Farmers kill popping mobs almost instantly, they wouldn’t get any reward, whereas if mobs need to live, say, 30s to drop loot, people just passing by would still get something.

It’d hurt a bit more than just AFK farmers though.
