Want to start a new character...
Necromancer and engineer are the biggest condition classes. Ranger would be after those two. However, condition isn’t going to be that great for PvE, especially when it comes to group content.
I love necromancer. She’s my main, and she was my first character in game. They’re really fun to level. They can also do great damage if you do power or zerker builds with them. However, they’re not good for group because they just can’t offer much in the way of support or boons to your party. I use my necro for occasional pve stuff (including dungeons), with a zerker/DS build; but I also have a condition set of armor/trinkets for when I take her into wvw.
Engineer can be very good. They can give tons of might to the party, help do group stealth, do good damage, etc. But they’re one of the harder classes to master (tied with ele, in my opinion, for most difficult). They’re worth giving a try, though.
I do have a lvl 20 engineer. It was my first character, but it got weird and it didn’t feel comfterable. I was new to the game, so engineer probably wasn’t a good idea for a first character…
So, engineer and necro…
Do any of those two use any other gear besides berserker?
I mean, if i ever craft an ascended gear for my mesmer it’s probably going to be berserker, so it would be handy if other classes can use it, but i’d like a different approach for my alt…
I like the idea of making a totally kitten steampunk engineer though. I wish it didn’t feel so weird to play it. Maybe i’ll get used to it.
I haven’t tried to play necromancer though. Might be fun.
I just want some other type of gameplay besides brute force glass cannon that is actually viable generally… And that means conditions.
I’ll give necro a try, and i’ll get back to my engineer to see if i still suck at ti like i did…
The condition set I have on my necro for wvw is carrion (condition damage, power, vitality). There’s also rabid (condition damage, precision, toughness) and dire (condition damage, vitality, toughness). I’d skip out on dire, personally.
Terror necromancer is my personal favorite for condi, I use full rabid gear on her.
So i’ve been trying out necromancer… Man, that bleed stacking! Scepter/dagger… Everything dies so fast!
And skills that are more effective the more conditions target has! This class seems to have been built around the use of conditions!
Fun to play!
But i can’t figure out how to deal conditions with an engineer… Do i need traits for that? Because on necro, the weapon skills themselves just deal tons of conditions…

Engineers’ best attacks are their kits. Grenades, bombs, turrets, etc. All damage and lots of conditions.
