Wanted: Meaningful Forum Titles
wouldnt that count for this one too? your threat title is pretty non-descriptive imo lol
^^ I think that was part of the OP’s point.

Yes, very much so.
To be fair though, often the problem is the character limit for thread titles. This leads to some thread titles that would be more descriptive having to be cut off. Of course the person posting the thread could abbreviate and such but I can see where it can cause a problem. I’ve run into it in the past at times trying to figure out how much I can abbreviate or cut off to get under the character limit for the thread title to make sense.

I agree with this post completely!

Are you volunteering for the first infraction?
If it means that my suggestion has been implemented, then yes, of course. It’s not like an infraction means much other than drawing the poster’s attention to the problem.
Are you volunteering for the first infraction?
Yes. I want to maintain my considerable lead on the infracted/bans leaderboard.
Make it an infractable offense to use blatantly clickbait and non-descriptive thread titles on these forums. People’s time is too valuable to waste on dozens of “What if Anet…” and “My awesome suggestion is…” threads.
Umm, if people’s time is too valuable to waste on such threads couldn’t they just not read them?

Where would I find that leaderboard?
This is a problem on all forums, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen one where they came up with an effective solution.
I can understand why it happens. When you’re just thinking about writing up your one topic a title like “Can you help me?” or “New fix to an old problem” or whatever makes complete sense. It’s only when you see that topic in a list of virtually identical ones that it becomes clear that’s an unhelpful title. But (at least for me) it’s hard to remember that when you’re writing a topic.
(You also have to be careful about how you word a more specific title to avoid the people who will only read the title and then potentially derail your topic. For example I once created a topic called something like ‘finalising PvE ranger build’. The first 3 or so replies were telling me to use zerk gear and/or check metabattle and other replies were responding to them, debating the pros and cons of zerk gear, when I’d actually been asking about what runes I should choose!)

Part of the problem is they get mixed up with topics you do want to read.
I’ve spent a lot of time clicking on topics in Players Helping Players with topics like “help a newbie” or “what do I do?” only to realise it’s someone asking about traits for a necromancer or how to find a raid group or something like that which I know nothing about. But 1/2 a day later I can’t remember which of those topics is the one I clicked and then left immediately and which is the one I can answer but didn’t have time for earlier and which is a new question. So I end up clicking on them again.

Ahh, I see. I guess that it would be a problem under those circumstances.
Still, in general, I think that skipping threads whose titles do not indicate relevance to one’s own interests might be a better idea than other suggestions. I just find it funny when people complain about reading something, with the reason given being such that they could very easily have avoided, “wasting time,” on the thread in the first place.

Right beside the fractal leaderbo….oh.

Rather than taking time to make a forum topic, may I suggest you simply report (click the flag to the right of each post) and allow us to analyze the situation and potentially change the topic to something meaningful? While we don’t edit the content of a post we will edit a subject line in order to make the forum index clearer and more concise.
Thanks.
