Q:
Wardrobe: Questions, Answers, & Prospects.
A:
1. There is already a warning in red text. If you are thinking there should be some kind of confirmation, I wouldn’t have a problem with that.
2. I agree that any character should be able to wear any skin, no matter the armor weight, culture, etc. The main problem with this is clipping. Anet has adjusted each medium skin to go with every other medium skin. They haven’t adjusted each Light skin to go with each Medium skin. If we want any character to be able to wear any skin, we would likely have to just deal with clipping. Which I am willing to do/
1. Great to hear some feedback. Yes I must’ve been missing the red text warning, but I’m glad you agree that a confirmation option wouldn’t be a bad addition.
2. I’m glad you answered this one as well. I was curious as to the reason(s) behind this so this definitely clears up some confusion. Also I appreciate that I am not the only one who feels that cosmetics shouldn’t be limited to certain areas.
Thanks for your answers and I’ll be glad to see more in the future.
3. Another question for the interested party out there.
-Will there be competitions in the future (if there is any now) for designing or providing ideas for future outfits/costumes?
Not likely. There is much involved in the creation of armor pieces.
And…I was not aware that Outfits had weight restrictions. Are you sure you are not confusing Outfits with Armor pieces sold in the Gem Store?

Well you see I was referring to the outfits bought in the store, but this could apply to any armor really, because once you acquire a piece of armor you unlock the outfit for it. The outfit then can only be used for your class armor (Necro=Light, Engineer=Medium, Revenant=Heavy, and Etc) when provided with the necessary amount of transmutation charges.
For example I mistakenly bought a Medium Magitech set from the store, with the thought in mind; since it didn’t affect actual gameplay there would be no problem with me equipping it onto my character as a purely cosmetic set (also being able to preview kind of gave me a misconception as well). Sadly this is not the case certain outfits in the store labeled (Light, Medium, and Heavy) still reflect upon their armor restrictions while not affecting actual gameplay, while certain other outfits (to my knowledge) like the chef’s outfit do not have restrictions.
I think you’re confusing two different things. It’s understandable because the terminology is specific to this game, but it will be a lot clearer for you and other people reading this topic to separate the two.
Within Guild Wars 2 outfits refers specifically to the complete 1-piece costumes sold in the Gem Store (with a few available in-game) and applied in the Outfits tab of the Hero Panel. For example the Monk’s Outfit or Braham’s Wolfblood Outfit.
Skins refers to the appearance of armour or weapons, which can be changed in the Wardrobe tab of the Hero Panel. These can come from the Gem Store or in-game and need an equivalent item equipped to apply the skin to (e.g. you can’t apply a sword skin unless your character is already wielding a sword).
With a few exceptions the name of the item in the Gem Store will tell you which it is, if it’s not clear the description will say. For example:
Description on heavy armour skins: “This full set of heavy armor skins can replace the appearance of heavy armor pieces, once per slot. The skins will also be unlocked in your account wardrobe. Skins have no stats of their own. Can only be used by characters who wear heavy armor.”
Description on an outfit: “This full outfit can be toggled to appear over armor on any or all of your characters. Can be used by any race and profession. Does not give any stat bonus.”
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
You are confusing outfits and armor skins mate
Okay I appreciate both of you and the information you provided, this clears up a lot of my own personal confusion on the subject.
So with that in mind, Do you think that armor skins should have their weight restrictions removed or no?
Should? It’s a popular request. But, I’d rather the Devs used their precious resources on creating new content, rather than suffering through a drought while the hundreds of armor pieces are reworked, and the code replaced.
Thus, no.
In a game made for it yes but this one, no they are armor skins for specific weight classes.
We got enough clipping with the current skins.
Dont want a billion more that we would get if we were able to mix light medium heavy that aint made to fit together at all.
I’d love to see the weight restrictions removed from armour so we can mix and match any of them.
But apparently it’s a very difficult thing to do. I think the main problem is that the ‘borders’ where pieces end and (if they match) join together are in different places. Heavy armour chest pieces are slightly shorter than the others for example.
But I think there’s other technical issues too. I think I remember seeing a post where one of the developers explained it a while ago, but I can’t seem to find it now.
