Are there plans to increase the variety of armors in Guild Wars 2?

Light Armor users are lacking leggings that don’t look like dresses.
Medium armor users are lacking chest pieces that don’t look like trench coats.
Heavy armor users are lacking armor that shows skin.

Perhaps its the intention of development to make armor types have certain themes in order for players to easily recognize. I think we should get rid of all armor types (Heavy, Medium, Light) and let players choose which pieces to wear from the entire selection. It would provide a lot more variety for the playerbase. We’ll have crazy combinations of styles that could inspire the artists to create more.

I like this idea, most of it anyway, I’m not in favour of the “showing more skin aspect” unless you’re going for the He-man look then by all means. Personally I think the mesmers, elementalists and sandwichmancers have it great because light armour has some of the best looking pieces that you can easily mix and match but not so much for medium and heavy… Especially heavy lacking variety there. Hopefully they plan on doing something but it’s very unlikely.

I think they need to change the costume system let you wear custom over your armor but keep your regluar armor stats

There are blue trenchcoats, or red ones, yellow trenchcoats and pink even purple! The variety is endless! lol….

I have to say though I love this idea, I’m sure many will say that they like having light/med/heavy armor specific looks so they are easily recognizable on the battlefield. But It would be nice if we weren’t cornered into wearing a certain look – with the lack of variety we have in each armor class. If they implemented something like this until they are able to add more styles I would be all for it. I know they have their hands full fixing bugs and such, so I have no high hopes of this happening soon but it would be much more fun. Armor skins please!
