Warning about salvaging karma gear please?
‘Linen prices are a bit through the roof currently. So i figured I’d use my otherwise useless pool of karma points to go salvage me some scrap to use in my crafting cause buying it sure isn’t an option right now.’
I don’t believe you could ever salvage Karma gear, or not since shortly after launch, for that very reason. Too easy to make gold off of it.
Though a tool-tip would be nice, a bit of investigation is not beyond reasonable, either. In the future, you can always type /wiki (field of interest) in-game for quick tips. Sorry for your loss.

with dungeon gear being salvageable, people assume karma gear would be too, you should not have to go outside of the game to find out something like this.

at op, I think you can mystic forge them in the hope for something you can salvage.
You can put karma items in the mystic forge to get items back which you can then salvage. It’s a 4 to 1 loss of items but it will get you something back.
“too easy to make gold off it”
Incorrect.
Karma is slowly acquired through playing the game, and unlike ‘gold’, it can’t be abused to make absurd amounts (playing the TP, TP manipulation, RNG, etc) in a short period of time.
Even if it was still possible to be traded in for the goal of generating some ‘gold’, the price of the material would fall to vendor price (everyone doing it), and making ‘gold’ from it wouldn’t be ‘easy’, or substantial, since karma is rather limited + market flooding.
Note: you can put 4 karma items in the mystic forge and salvage it, if you have no other use for karma.
PvP modes are the “endgame” in all MMOs.
Stop failing at PvE, and fix WvW/SPvP. Thank you.
It wasn’t always like that, they made that change because players were exploiting it, so now you can’t salvage or sell stuff you buy with karma.
But don’t let them hear you say that, they’ll go berserk and reply “if I could do it it was legit, if anet didn’t want me to do that they should have just blocked it”.
Annoying? Yes, maybe this will make you feel better.
Before the attack in LA I was trying to get a decent backpiece for one of my toons. I didn’t want to spend the money on an ascendant one, but anything less than exotic is just meh.
So I settle for a Soldier one from the temples and put an Exquisite Ruby thing on it, so that’s 42K karma + 1 gold.
3 or so weeks later, the spinal back pieces were introduced, which you could easily craft into bezerker exotic, perfect, except I can’t salvage the karma one for that upgrade, and the karma itself was out the window.
Hope that makes you at least feel better, you learn with your mistakes, it sucks but move over.

It was when karma was easy to acquire by the truckload. They nerfed that significantly since then, so it’s sensible that this decision would get reversed. But of course Anet has a tradition of forgetting about such adjustments when they are no longer necessary.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
Just also discovered there are things you can buy with just gold/silver/copper. No karma at all and it also can not be sold or salvaged? Seraph Supplier in Wallwatcher Camp for example.
I normally don’t bother to buy the stuff merchants outside of towns have for sale. This seriously needs to be addressed by anet and if its always been this way for shame. Literally just taking peoples hard work and flushing it down the toilet.
There is no good reason why people are not being informed when they are making a 1 way purchase.
There’ say weird group of things that can’t be salvaged or can’t be forged. Not sellable on the TP is fine because you get the “soulbound on acquire warning”. I was surprised when I bought armour from the Vigil for instance that it couldn’t be put into the Mystic Forge, especially given that this was extremely unlikely to get me a profit (I’d have to luck and get an exotic with a desirable sigil or insignia).
As it turns out though, buying 4 mid-level light gloves and putting them in the forge probably offers the best karma to gold generation in game at the moment.
Soulbound on acquire is not a warning that you cant do anything with it after you purchase it. Everything you equip becomes soulbound. Players have no idea what they are buying until they simply cant do anything but destroy the item and/or have to go out of game to hunt down what should be right there on the item or merchants screen. This should apply to anything /everything that cant be salvagable or sold either to a merchant or on the TP.
Well, you blew 15k of a “useless” pool of points ( to use your own words ). So why the heck are you complaining? And by the way, 15000 karma is a tiny amount of karma…
You’ve never been able to salvage or sell karma armor.
Highly suggest not putting all of your eggs in one basket next time. Lesson learned I suppose.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
You’ve never been able to salvage or sell karma armor.
Doesn’t matter, there’s still NOTHING in game to tell you that.
I spend all my karma on obby shards, since I asked an in game friend what do they with their karma.
But alot of newer players won’t know that, some actually get encourage to buy gear with karma,(when you’re better off running ac a few times in rares). Its not hard for anet to put a warning.
“this gear cannot be salvaged”, copy and paste warning on the other various gears that cant be salvaged.
This warning should have be there.
oh and btw on your “never been able to”. you used to actually be able to salvage it, they removed it because people were using it to make a profit which anet didnt want.
I believe that are in fact able to salvage blue and green karma items for scraps. Unless of course, they’ve changed this recently

Incorrect. Haven’t been able to salvage anything karma-related, regardless of rarity. Wish I could give a date on the change (a few months after launch, if I recall), but the wiki seems to be down.
The same problem applies to the equipment you can buy for badges of honor and a little gold. Except these aren’t even mystic forgable. And those have no warning label either.
Another problem with the “can’t salvage” under the new transmutation system is, that if you put an expensive rune into one of those armor pieces, you’ll need the extractor from the gemshop to get it back.
Usually it’s cheaper (speaking only in ingame currency terms here) to simply buy the runes again from the TP, but if you put strength runes into those armor pieces for example, you’re caught between a rock an a hard place in terms of gold loss.
So yes a lable “not salvageable” and another “impossible to use in the mystic forge” would be rather helpful.
you may keep them to rear new and interesting variants in your basement.

Strange, one of my guildies has been buying low level armours from a karma vendor…or might be a heart vendor to get his hands on linen for cheap.
I’m a casual player and hardly check the website or bother to read the updates
I’m a casual player…and even i know it’s usually best to ‘bother’ – saves on lots of QQing later.

He’s either lying to you or mystic forging them.

You can’t salvage them, but you can put 4 of them into Mystic Toilet to get a salvageable one.

OR he’s found a stray karma vendor that evaded the lockdown patch and should ’fess up.
can the gemstore extractor remove upgrades from the karma soldier’s spineguard obtained from one of the temples?

I believe it can, but it wouldn’t be worth it. You’d lose a lot of gold.
we’ve all been there. i made the same mistake when i first started playing. had to learn the hard way. now i know better. but a tool tip would be nice for people who don’t yet.
I love how so many people argue about pointless things when op simply pointed out that karma vendors are missing a critical information.
It should not be necessary to visit a wiki before doing anything in this game to make sure you dont get screwed by intransparent game mechanics.
This has nothing to do with skill or l2p, its simply intransparent and bad design.
The chances of anet fixing this are close to zero of course, but op has a point nonetheless.
Reminder to anyone reading this topic: Most of it is nine months old. Anything before Darksteel’s post is old, and it’s likely that many or all of the old posters are unlikely to see anything you say to them.
Regarding Darksteel’s question, RoseofGilead is correct. It can, at least according to the Wiki, but you’d probably be better off just buying a new updgrade component.
1 Upgrade Extractor = 250 Gems = 28g48s
Even the most expensive Jewels don’t cost more than 63s, so the only reason you might want to use an Upgrade Extractor is to transplant infusions without destroying the ascended gear they’re attached to.
High-grade agony uinfusions might be the most compelling use for the upgrade extractor, because they actually can cost a large amount of gold. A +9 Agony Infusion goes for 26g25s on the Trading Post, and a +10 costs 54g99s.
Edit: I stand corrected. Refractors are jewels worth much, much more than the ones I linked.

thanks for the info….anyway there are jewels worth well over 200g..think about the refractor jewels…hence why i ask
