Okay, most people would probably say, “Warrior! Hands down!”…. Well hear me out..

I’m having some problems deciding between these two classes (and yes, I will be using a certain build for both classes which I will explain in detail in just a minute). So if you could take the time and explain, help me decide, or discuss why you think one is better than the other (with the builds I’ve listed below) and give me a hand!

Warrior:

Build: PvT (Power, Vitality, Toughness), Banner Spec, Mercy Runes, Hammer, Sigil of Paralyzing.

Why PvT? And Why Banners? And EW.. Why Mercy Runes?
Why? Well a PvT build isn’t great on damage, but it allows the warrior to deal out decent damage while maintaining survivability. Banners will allow ALL the party members to receive infinite regeneration (appox. 250-500 per second or 1.5 seconds) along with boosted stats. Tactics banner improves Boon duration along with Healing Power, Strength banner improves Power and Condition Damage, and Defense Banner improves Vitality and Toughness. (And blast finishers with banners are great!) Mercy runes are amazing because well, You get all the toughness you’d normally get if you used dolyak runes, and since this is a build for survival it helps. The Special Abilities on Mercy runes are also amazing. It allows you to revive allies much more quickly and efficiently! Basically you’re a tanky medic! This boosts the group’s survivability quite a bit if you ask me.

Why Hammer?
Hammer is an amazing tool for warriors to use. Their F1 skill has a neat stun which can control large amounts of mobs or a single mob for a few seconds. This build will also be great because hammer has quite a bit of CC if traited correctly. Blast finishers, Fumble, Cripple, Knockdowns, Knockback, Stun, Root, and a pbaoe auto attack. This is something that even I wouldn’t want to pass up.

Ranger:

I don’t want to make this too long so lets stop there for warriors and move onto rangers.

Why Ranger?

Rangers have more survivability than you think. With constant Vigor and Evades, They make a tough target to kill. Their Spirit Elite Heals a great amount and also has the ability to instantly revive a downed ally. That’s such a useful skill in tough situations. They have a wide ranged PBAoE Heal that they can drop, and this can be combed for more healing since it is a water field.
They have a shout that can allow pets to search for a downed ally and revive if you’re ever in those situations where you can’t do it and neither can your buddies. Pets are much more useful than people think. Pets can tank, and if you spec right you have an amazing amount of defense and healing.

With that said, I was thinking of completely ignoring it all (whoa theres a twist) and going straight for a condition build. BUT I would keep handy a few traps (maybe), and definitely keep the shout to send my pet on a reviving mission.

So now i’m left with the decision…

Constant river flowing ticks of 130+ bleeds and poison damage ticking about 320+, pets to revive, elite to heal and revive, healing skill that gives regen to group and water field.

or

Constant CC, Constant Regeneration, Ability to revive quicker and more efficiently. And whatever else I listed.

I honestly don’t know how long I made this post, but I’m hoping some people could take the time to read this and discuss this with me. Like I said, i’m having trouble deciding between the two. (this toon will be for all dungeons including fractals 40+ 50+ etc)

So please let your thoughts flow in this thread! (On these 2 classes, with these 2 builds)

Isnt the dodge key what grants survivability and not armor stats, support builds etc?

GW2

guardian and warriors 2….

GW2 balance:
A PvE player is supposed to avoid a 1-2 second 1 shotting aoe.
A WWW player is considered uncapable of avoiding a 5,75 second aoe for half his health.

Warrior: full zerker with great sword

Ranger: full zerker with LB and SB

Fixed your builds for you…you’re overthinking it too much, this isn’t PvP. Full zerker is best in dungeons for both of these classes.

Full zerker ranger used to be marginally ok in dungeons, but not any more.
Ranger’s lost their burst damage with the SB and quickness nerfs.

@OP
Spirits, condition and BM build rangers are a no-no in dungeons …

I stopped bring my ranger into dungeons months ago because there is no viable ranger build to do dungeons. Every other class does things better, so I leveled a guardian for dungeons.

Condi is sometimes useless in some dungeons where there are obstacles you need to break (ac burrows for example, or hotm totems). Other than that, play what you fancy. People in dungeons (generally) aren’t to fussy about your build, as long as you don’t die every 2 seconds to every fight.

I main a ranger since Beta. I rarely PUG, but if I do, the “good” or “efficient” PUG groups dont’ want a ranger. It really doesn’t matter how you’re specced. In dungeons, they want DPS, and other classes have more to bring to the table when it comes to DPS. They don’t care one iota how survivable you are; their whole setup is built around burst, and not dying before the mobs do. The words “vitality” and “toughness” are irrelevant to them in dungeons.

Is this silly? Absolutely. But the game tells them this is very effective game play. And their underlying reason for refusing rangers is factually correct; other classes can reliably dish out more damage and bring more utility to increase the group’s damage. Disheartening, frustrating, and horrible mind-numbing game design? Yes, all of the above. But, it doesn’t change the fact that their assumption regarding the ranger’s damage is factually accurate. So the practice of “preferred classes” for dungeons will simply continue. The game practically caters it.

Also, hammers are not as useful in pve. Imo they’re a wvw weapon. GS is still the best for PvE.

Every weapon and every profession can be played and used in dungeons, those very few who refuses a profession are not the good players, but the really kittenty ones, i would take a thief that could play his strengths over a guardian and warrior, guardian and warriors are way to overrated for some reason.

So go with what you like/prefer if you do that you will be doing 10 times as good as any one looking up a build on the internet as finding a build online really does not make you a good player at all, it makes you kitten for not being able to know what you like/prefer, my warrior is axe/axe and hammer, the hammer is great for removing 2 defiant really quick + my utility skill, so i can earthshake the boss for 2 seconds and there’s time to really res/regroup whatever people need.

Also, rangers are probably one of the stronger professions if you actually have just a slight bit of skill at all, bad rangers is plentiful because they think it’s an easy profession but it actually do take some skill to use.
