I came back after retiring from this game in january to play the new dragon story with mordremoth. Previously the AI was relatively easy to out smart and out maneuver. Now playing both my guard and my thief I find myself constantly being hit with cripple stun and daze effects that last 15-20 seconds long repeatedly. This has been an absolute nightmare on my theif and has required me to rework the entire trait system to help deal with the AI constantly hitting with stun effects. Is this something new that was patched in over the past 6 months? Don’t remember the AI being this difficult.

The newer mobs are indeed smarter and are working together and actually utilizes their skills in a good way.

I dunno about stun or daze lasting 15 seconds… Maybe you are referring to immobilize? That tends to come from the husks when they stomp the ground and send out little vine trails in multiple directions. You can dodge those, or pop a condi cleanse.

Increasing the AI and having the enemies work together (ala GW1) could only be a good thing IMO. Glad to see this more in the recent updates.

Yeah, stun/daze won’t ever last that long unless you’re getting slammed by several mobs over and over. Cripple and immobilize definitively can, though.

And yeah, many of the Mordrem mobs have tougher attacks.

In response to community feedback, the newly added mobs are more difficult. They will encourage playing with diff skill/trait set ups.

A smarter AI isn’t really the cause. Older mobs just didn’t have control effects in general and when they did, it was usually tied to a slow special attack. The Mordrem wolf for example is just a hyena. If you stay outside of its leap range, the cripple it causes will always miss. You can snare it to reduce its range.

So smart that they just stand there and let me shoot them without any sort of reaction.

Makes me wonder what ever happened to this:

http://intrinsicalgorithm.com/IANews/2014/04/now-consulting-at-arenanet-on-guild-wars-2/

Sounded like big news, and then it disappeared off the map. No comments on ANet end of changes. I would think they would want to tout any improved AI and such as something they are trying to do better.

I’m guessing it will show in either the raids and/or an expansion.

The AI isn’t really smarter, it’s just that their only attacks are rushing knockdowns/knockbacks/cripple immobilize etc. probably the only way ANet can makes enemies in this game relevant.

Enjoy

Particle effect slider would be ‘too confusing’
