Was the Forum Specialist Program Ditched?
Look at the stickied post at the top of this forum.
not been ditched, just not showing anything actually happening with it right now that we, the forum community, can see
Well the wvw forum specialist has gone AWOL, haven’t checked up on the others.
Much ado about nothing, it would seem.
The dungeon one has been actively posting etc. It has been stated he has sent reports in to anet. The problem is that is all he can do. If anet doesn’t read the reports or do anything their existence is as useless at changing things as ours.
As far as I know, from reading the requirements, a Forum Specialist is tasked to gather information from the forums about ‘hot topics’ or ‘topics of concern’ and place them in a report to be shown to the Devs, after the Forum Communications Team evaluates said reports.
No requirements about posting on the forums, or providing reports to forum users.
What is it you were expecting from the Forum Specialists, OP?
Honestly, they are just the ears of ANet since acknowledgment of hot topics seems frowned upon. It also lets them spend time elsewhere than reading the forum themselves.
RIP City of Heroes

I guess I just have a hard time wrapping my mind around the idea that they will not interact with the forum, other than to apply their own bias to what is important and give it to the devs, with no communication with the posters. I don’t see the point of their function, if its not to get the forum posters, and the developers living in the same guildwars2 reality, but rather to keep the barrier active between the gamers and the developers.
Well, maybe you can make suggestions about what you feel the role of Forum Specialist should entail, but as it is a volunteer position, and created by the Devs, I’m not sure how far said suggestions will go.
Still, as far as I know, suggestions are always welcome.
Good luck.
The dungeon forum specialist is very active, engaged, and responsive to the community. The WvW forum specialist has been MIA for a month.
My guess is that not many people applied so Anet just went with what they got. No offense to those actively serving as specialists. I’m guessing this is why the profession specialists are on hold as Anet stated they have decided to evaluate the need for said specialists just a few weeks after advertising they were looking for applicants. That said, this is part of the description for forum specialist:
Guild Wars 2 Forum Specialists generally are asked to engage in regular active discussion with the Guild Wars 2 community at large on the official Guild Wars 2 forums.
And this was part of the application:
How much time per week you currently devote to participating in the Guild Wars 2 Forums and your plans for conveying feedback to the ArenaNet Forum Communications Team
(edited by JustTrogdor.7892)
The part about not having many infractions ruled out a lot of people, particularly, from what I’ve read, in the WvW forum where most of the regulars there said they either had to many infractions to be accepted or they didn’t see the announcement so didn’t apply.
ANet may give it to you.
