this event carries all the hallmarks of a pre-expansion stress test:

zones low enough level for almost everyone to participate (but not starter zones to avoid annoying newbies).

rotates between zones so everyone teleports there at once.

a “rest” period to act as a control period.

long periods of everyone gathering in one spot (the vendors cluster), then long periods of everyone scattering and using abilities (the events)

lots of teleporting around to ensure the system can manage everyone teleporting around maguuma at night

obviously tacked-on rewards (and no loot, xp, karma,or gold to make sure the economy is unaffected).

well advertised for what it is and only a token effort to actually make an event. (it’s basically a reskinned clockwork chaos)

Devs, be honest, was this just a disguised stress test for HoT with rewards to entice people to do it?

If I remember correctly we already had the same kind of event with Scarlet’s invasions.
Therefore I don’t think it is a stress test.

Scarlet’s invasion was very different though. You only warp’d maybe three times during an event and it was all about everyone killing things together and finishing a complete event.

OPs idea actually sounds very plausible.

I feel it’s a stress test. It’s unrewarding and it pushes for data in increments that would equate one.

Not to mention all the players stressed by it and the lack of developer accountability for everything. It looks like they’ve left it to CS to handle.

Sounds about right. A stress test without telling anyone as well as single-handedly one of the most boring kitten events known to gw2.

It’s not stress test on the servers.
It’s stress test aimed at your head i think, lol.

To me it may be some sort of stress test indeed.
Some twisted way to have the number of “actives players”

That… actually makes sense. Would explain a few things about why this event was designed the way it was.

Even if it is not intended to be a “test”, I’m sure they have gathered various info , at least, players reaction to such degree of contents, responded players population, response to the offered rewards. Therefore, it is still a test, regardless of intention.

It started out that way. After a few days, it turned into “WP to the commander tag, spawn champs, kill champs, WP to next commander tag, repeat”. So yeah, this event is pretty much the same, minus trying to upscale for more champs.

Maybe they just wanted fresh data for a “we have X number of concurrent players” sales pitch.

Very costly stress test if you ask me. The fall-out from this has already spread beyond the GW2 forums and reddit. ANet are garnering a reputation overnight that they really don’t want.

I think it’s more of an advertisement for HoT. It’s supposed to show off new enemies and exciting combat events so new F2P players and older holdout players will be tempted to buy the expansion.

I think it’s also a test for the Mordrem, to see how they handle at the lower levels. I fully expect to see some lingering invasions or a restart of them when it’s closer to HoT launch time. Again, to advertise the expansion.

Is it a good advertisement? No. No, it is not. But that’s what I think it’s supposed to be.

ermm…..

i think anet knows that the lack of new contents will result in loss of playes
the announcement of hot release date has bought back some players, so to keep the trend going, a small event to keep people interested.

Id bet its either a stress test or a rushed event to try to appease the people demanding temporary content before HOT launches. Either way seems like a bad idea to do on a live server in such a short timeframe.
