Pic shows a champion krait near Wrathwave Deeps in Sparkfly Fen. My poor mesmer gets stomped every time I approach the structure to try to get the stupid vista. Yet I did this area only a couple weeks or so ago with my warrior and I don’t remember seeing this guy at all. Did he change? Was this thing added? Or I was lucky because someone had killed the champ allowing me to get the vista in peace?
If he was added or changed…why on EARTH would you put a champ next to a chest in an area where people are trying only to get a vista? A veteran I can see, but a champ? And how the heck can he be downgraded or removed or even shifted to be underwater instead?
Edit to add: I snuck past the champ by distracting it with a few clones and Veil, but what about profs who don’t have that ability?

I think it always was, I remember some pretty harsh fights in that area. Run past her, that’s my advice … run run run, use a potion or food to stealth and drop aggro if you can. (though aggro doesn’t drop real nice like it used to) And ask for someone ta help in map chat – usually you can find someone what’s in the area and willing to give you a hand.

Hahahaah…you gotta be talking about the Champion Risen Baron/Baroness in Cursed Shore. I cannot believe what a handful he/she is, particularly since it looks like a standard “risen”.
I hang out a lot in Cursed Shore, and I used to frequently see 4-6 players go to take this champion on…and within about 20 seconds there are 4-6 “downed player” icons on the map. I just run away….not only is it a difficult champion, once you have the skill point there is really nothing to be gained by taking him/her down.
I think people are starting to get the message recently though…I rarely see anyone even try it these days.
Yeah, I recall him being a champ. Last time I think I ran past him and and up onto one of the beams. He might move around a bit, so you can get past without dealing with him, but I’m not sure.

That champ was always there. The usual way is to just run past him on the higher level towards the vista (he won’t follow you), and once there relog to drop out of combat.

Theat champ is soloable, at least for some professions/levels. I took it down on my knights/zerker statted warrior. As with most things when it comes to warr, it was depressingly easy.
Some of the other champs mentioned are way more dangerous. The rinsen knight in Malchor’s, and the risen king in cursed shore are the two roughest that come to mind. They both can instagib if you do it wrong. Outside of using stealth, the knight is manageable with a buddy to distract them. The king is much rougher but, I have pulled off the skill point there the same way.
The baron in Cursed Shore can be avoided, you just have to slip in and hug the left wall. You can safely sit at the top left of the stairs and not draw aggro. Pull the other mobs guarding the point to you while the baron is down the stairs, then snag the SP when it’s safe. The timing on it is VERY close though.
You don’t need to aggro the champ for the chest. Just grab from underwater.
As for the question. Pretty sure it has always been a champion but Kraits were all buffed up a while ago and champion status magnified those buffs. On top of that you are forced to fight on a tiny area. Given the location and the buff this one should probably be downgraded to a veteran instead.
The vista itself can be reached without getting into combat as well. You can just jump on from the side instead.
