Please do not put things there without giving the option of turning them off. I couldn’t possibly care less about your e-sport obsession.

Dude chill, it’s not big part of the UI anyway. just ignore it if you are not intersted, many people including me do like e-sport. just calm down, also GW2 esport is not that bad, it’s just most people don’t give it a chance, it’s really entertaining.

Plenty of us prefer to play games rather than waste time watching other people do it. For us its just cluttering up our screens with garbage we’d like to get rid of.

They can announce that stuff on the launcher like everything else, keep it of the game.

It’s just for a short period of time , does it really bothers you that much? Also just because you don’t like watching tournament s, doesn’t mean others don’t want either. Again it’s not even that big, so if you are too bothered by it just play tomorrow and it will be gone.

Keep pretending in your world that this is just a short one-off thing. What it is, in reality, is a step towards cluttering the screen with all sorts of “news feed” garbage.

Once they see they can get away with it for an event that isn’t “that big”, they’ll do it for other things.

They been doing this for a long time, they know what they are doing, it’s not like they suddenly started this today. Again, maybe of you don’t care about it, but many of us do. You can not force others adapt you.

Umm, “once?” They’ve had all sorts of gold star event things up there since the beginning. Any time something was going on, be it PvP or WvW or PvE, that’s been there. This is not a new thing even if you’ve only just noticed it because it’s not touting something you want to see.

I don’t care about eSports either, but given how uncluttered the UI is compared to any other MMO I play other than TESO, I’m perfectly able to edit that tiny corner of my screen out of my consciousness. I am playing wide screen high rez windowed, which may make a difference to the sense of clutter. Maybe it’s more intrusive on small monitors?

I wonder if there were complaints when the Festivals had their Gold Star up on the UI?

The Tournament is part of the game just like Festivals, WvW Tournaments or anything else. The one line doesn’t seem all that obtrusive, at least not to me.

By itself, yes. How often is its by itself though? Its shares the same corner of the screen as local events, the dalies list, the meter for the nearby heart, story/living story information, holiday notices, and more. All of which create clutter up there and none of which, to my knowledge, you can turn off.

Its not asking too much to be able to turn it off

As often as ‘holiday notices’/Festivals, other Tournaments, etc., etc.

I imagine players will be able to turn off ‘Special’ events at the same time they will be able to turn off everything in the HUD.

Imagine how annoyed the few pvp only players would be if the situation was reversed, like some sort of rally to the SAB or some such thing.

All in all I think it is more to make it seem like things are going on until the next time based content can roll around again. The whole game (with the exception of monitoring the precious spvp balance) is on autopilot while the company tries to push out the expansion as quickly as they can get away with it. The last patch is pretty much a sample of things to come until the expansion is finished.

Pets have been hidden due to rising Player complaints.

I agree with OP. Watch list should be customizable so I can turn off those annoying e-sport cries and those who like, I dont know, pvp can turn of personal story or living story advertisement.

no it isn’t.
