Watchwork Mining Pick Best in Slot
Nuuuu, don’t spoil my already slumping watchwork sprocket money stream!
(No really, get that Watchwork Mining Pick, kiddos. ANet isn’t likely to change it anywhere near soon because of the spit that would storm over it, and the extra cash is handy.)

Or you could buy the reduced-cost pick, convert the difference in gems into gold, and buy all the sprockets you’ll ever need.
Seriously though, I don’t have the watchwork variant. Does it really output that many sprockets?

Maybe 33% of my swings or so, sometimes less sometimes more idk.
But think about it, it’s free sprockets until the end of time :P

They add up if you do a lot of mining. With 10 characters a farming run of the common rich plat and iron nodes can net a couple gold. It’s not amazing but it certainly helps, especially if you already have crafted a spinal blades back piece.
Thanks for sharing man!
What else is there aside from mining pick?
They really add up. I’ve craft the Spinal Blades back pack using (almost) all the sprockets (not only for the Mechanism, but also for the Blade Shard) from the mining pick (aside from the sprocket mining node, which only gives 4-10 pieces a day).
I think the Watchwork Mining Pick was a mistake made by Anet they can’t undo – They can’t get rid of it without kittening off everyone who bought it specifically for the sprockets. At this point they can’t pull it without putting everyone who hasn’t bought it yet at a disadvantage. And yet, keeping it gives what was supposed to be a vanity/convenience item a direct in-game benefit over those who don’t have it.

Only other tools that give additional items are the Frostbitten tools. But those were limited use items given out during Wintersday 2014 and only give useless snowflakes (and their tinkling sound gets on my nerves).
So to my knowledge the Watchwork Pick is the only permanent gathering tool that offers something extra that’s actually worth some money on the TP. Probably because people are still finding Spinal Blade blueprints in their bank and the sprockets are also required for some guild upgrades and a couple legendaries.

Actually, having lots of snowflakes comes in really handy when you want to level crafting or craft rares/exotics for forging/salvaging. They are much cheaper than any other fine crafting material allowing you to save a small fortune.

Never thought about that, thanks! Even though I have all my crafting abilities at max I’ll check and see what I can make with them

Check the TP for Giver’s recipes, if you don’t already have them all.
I really wish the watchwork pick didn’t give sprockets. It really decentivises using anything else…
If you buy any of the unlimited use items for anything but convenience you are doing it wrong. I don’t think the break-even point will be in my lifetime. But convenient they are and I have one for each slot. And, the watchwork, because it returns sprockets is BiS. But, the sprockets return is not going to make you rich. In the grand scheme of things it will be entirely insignificant. So, we’re back to the convenience. Man, are they convenient. (They really are.)

I agree with 99% of what you said, except for “entirely significant” if one does a lot of mining, then one has a lot of sprockets. It can be a nice side source of income for those that enjoy harvesting nodes. Not amazing, but certainly not insignificant either.

Thanks, I should have all the Giver’s recipes already as I’m a hoarder for crafting recipes.
I’ll take a look later tonight and see if I can make something with these stacks of snowflakes.

I agree.
…and I really wanted to buy that cosmic mining tool too.

Just today i bought the Cosmic Mining Tool and the Concentrated Solar energy Logging Tools, even if the – tron ones are on sale just because I wanna look cute while harvesting, and because I hate having to buy new tools, if i did it for a monetary advantage, then I’d simply convert my gems to gold and carry on with the Orichalcum equipment.
