Just add a method of selecting your gameplay style when creating a char.
Make 3 possible gameplay styles :

1: Guild wars Original
It features the current way stuff goes in GW. Run around, do events, get quests, do quests, craft for exp, pvp for exp.
TL;DR
Quest/Events/Crafts give most exp, grinding gives lowest
2: Classic MMO
Quest/Events/Crafts give lowest exp, grinding and main quests give highest exp.
Monsters drop more loot ( usable loot)
3: Hybrid
Self explanatory.

I am no programmer, but I think an idea like this would actually be more difficult to implement. They would have to re-write a lot of the game to allow people to switch between modes at character creation, and to make it fair, they would have to allow current characters the option to choose too.

It would probably be easier for them to develop a new game entirely. Something like this, I think, would have to have been in the works from day one of development me thinks.

Kreejaffa [Ferguson’s Crossing]
Leader of Looking For Gandalf [LFG]
Worst Commander of Ferguson’s Crossing (Self Proclaimed)

Then, i don’t know, escalate it to a new account type? Or a new game server? That features elevated exp rates on monster kills and reduced on events and quests.

I’m at a loss…

The title of the thread is about ‘fixing GW2’, but you never mentioned any of your perceived problems with the game. You just gave some vague notion of radically altering the game’s population distribution and some of the basic systems while stating only having the intention of some trivial number tweaks, ie. experience gain parameters.

What is the ultimate goal of changing the rate at which/how people level characters in the game? What would a more focused system of experience gain actually solve? What purpose would this serve after leveling to 80? Is the game suffering from a shortage of extra Skill Points on a massive scale? Do you have any numbers/surveys that suggest this is needed or even wanted by/for the game’s population? Really, what is the point of this at all?

So, you want the developer to create three separate games. Yeah, that’s going to happen… >.>

Imo, a way to fix the game starts with proper communication. We are far from it.

How does this even “fix” the game?

In order to fix something, it has to be broken. The game has its faults but for the most part it’s just fine. It certainly doesn’t merit such a drastic change as you are suggesting.

I don’t think the game needs fixing…I think the genre needs fixing. The fact that people bought what WoW and WoW clones were selling makes me shake my head in disbelief. If you want a classic MMO, there are plenty of them out there. This one is what it is.

And for many of us, that’s why we’re here.
