Below is a link to a blog about ways to keep people playing GW2 without introducing gear stat tiers. Similar to the approach used in GW1.

http://themoletariat.wordpress.com/

Would you continue playing the game if Arenanet kept it fresh by introducing new traits/skills/pvp types/areas/content instead of new gear with better stats?

“So how did the original Guild Wars support continual PvE gametime? How did the PVP and PVE continue to be populated and active without new statistical tiers? There’s one major element as to why: skills and encounters.

The card game-like skillbars of Guild Wars allowed the game to continually progress via new build ideas and strategies for many years. As well, new encounters that involved new situations and limitations created the need for new build ideas that again refreshed the play experience."

I would love to see more skills, too. And also more open areas for groups and solo players, and a lot of other things (new races, new professions, and player housing). Sadly I think they’ve come to the realization that the easiest, cheapest thing to do is throw more dungeons at us.

It’s for sure easier than trying to deal with, for example, three way siege pvp.

I actually feel sorry for them. But not as sorry as I feel for us players.

And as for making money, if I had it my way, they’d have released a new profession and two races at $40 apiece. I would have happily bought them. Especially to play a Skritt or Centaur.

Honestly that should have been the original intent. As it is, a lot of traits/utility skills are so underwhelming that aside from the benchmark levels, there is nothing to look forward to because by that point you will have long gotten everything you want and have a bunch of skill points pooled.

They kind of shot themselves in the foot here though – Most utility is intentionally lackluster to prevent things like the 55 monk ever appearing again. That is, things like 1 second stun every 60 seconds, or a laying down a sanctuary that heals for 3% health, with a 2 minute cooldown.

And skillpoints are already used as a currency for end-game items rather than for you know… skills.

No way could they do this if they still hold on to the tattered shreds of a dream involving becoming an esport game. The balancing would be just about impossible.

Personally, I think they’d do better to let go of the esport dream entirely and give us more skills, but that ship has already sailed.

Bring back GvG, add more DE’s for all level’s(like a thousand more to start) add more currencies to the game like Adventure Point’s that allow you to buy any set of armour or weapon you want in the game. more skill’s, more PvE area’s, a much longer Personal Story that takes month’s if not years to finish, player made cities, player made content, add in new profession’s like a Bounty Hunter or Slaver or Pirates or a Warlord, add Demigod as a new race. I can go on an on an on an on but I won’t maybe later this be good for now…….later
