Hardened leather is way cheaper and more abundant than orichalcum or gossamer. Are there any plans to make a hardened leather sink?

I mean, it makes it easier to make leather armor, but it throws off the balance a bit. I come across orichalcum and ancient logs and gossamer enough though. I have 89 ancient logs right now that I haven’t gotten around to refining. I have 30 orichalcum ingots. All from just casually gathering it

The numbers that you need to refine the Materials should get changed imo.

Silk should get reduced from 3 to 2
Hardened Leather should get increased from 2 to 4
Hard Wood Plank should get decreased from 3 to 2
Elder Wood Plank should get increased from 3 to 5

Linen needs an increase of gain rate, no lower tier materials should be like x times more worth, than the highest crafting tier materials

Mithril needs to get increased from 2 to 3
Iron needs to get reduced from 3 to 2
Steel shouldn’t require 3 Iron ores anymore, but instead 1 Iron Ingot and 1 Lump of Coal
Silver ,Gold, Platin ingots shouldn’t require 2, but 4 ores, making these ingots more valuable.
All 3 should be more valuable than Iron Ingots definetely.

I think its time, that ANet makes some proper changes again on the conversion rates for crafting, like they did once a long time ago.
Changes like that are needed to keep the game economy healthy, so that certain good also stay valuable and don’t get so low, that even toilet paper would be more valuable than some craftable materials.

Personally I like the idea behind sub classes ~ quoted from Chris Whiteside

Absolutely not, you never ever do this. This is what got us into trouble with the Silk scrap market to begin with. When an item comes along that makes leather more desirable (like ascended crafting did for Silk) you’ve compounded the demand for the item. Then when that happens you’ll be saying Hardened Leather should be decreased from 4 to 2 just like you’re saying Silk should be reduced from 3 to 2.

And once you change the core refining recipe you can never revert, because the hundreds of thousands of people that already crafted all their items using the more expensive recipe will cry about it. This is why Silk was never reverted back to 2 scraps from 3 or the Bolt of Damask requirements lowered from 100 to 50.

They missed an opportunity with the Candy Corn Gobbler, just more short sightedness by Anet. Instead of putting out these one off items (like Candy Corn Gobbler/Mawdrey II) that temporarily handle only one problem, they need to be thinking big picture more. Instead of a “Candy Corn” Gobbler or a Bloodstone eating plant, they should be putting out a universal Gobbler that eats various amounts of any overflowing item/material that can be adjusted as the market changes. When materials could be exchanged for Zephyrite Sanctum Supply Boxes we saw an almost immediate evening out of costs across the board for materials of different tiers.

Temporary rewards for temporary problems that can be adjusted on the fly and don’t affect the core crafting mechanics of the game are a much better solution.

We need ability to convert leather to silk etc then the price for all craft profession will be similar.

that in fact would be also very interesting, if w could convert craftign materials from one type over into an other type, like turning for example 250 Hard Leathers into 125 Silk. Just a simple example, dont take the numbers now too serious, just used them for easier understanding :P

That way wopuld gain the stuff, thats cureently worth nothing also more value and the offer of those items will naturally decrease, leading to a stabilization of the items which are overpriced currently and worthless items becoming more valueable again.

I mean, we have 24/7 an active conversion between Gold and Gems..
So why can#t we also have somewhere in the game an option to 2477 convert at an active changign rate craftign materials for a different type of crafting materials based on the worth of those materials.

This way i would be able to turn the item of that i have no use for in the moment maybe into an other craftign material, that woudl be useful for me in the moment.
Add to this type of item conversion also a small gold fee and the game gets another gold sink.

that would be so perfect.

I need silk too and that stuff doesn’t drop well for theives.

LOVE this idea.
convert one mat to a similar grade mat at a 50% yield (250 to 125).

I main an engineer. Because anet has seen fit to institute profession loot, not only do I have a lower chance at high-value weapons (greatsword, sword, dagger, staff), I also get more leather crap than anything else. You bet your butt I want leather to be worth something.

Killface has the right idea. Introduce a new Mystic Forge recipe to convert stuff like leather, metal and cloth into each other at lower rates of return, and you’d see prices become balanced extremely quickly. “Downgrade” recipes could also work.

At some time people were saying things like that about silk. It didn’t end well.

Agreed. The profession loot for medium classes is rough right now. It’s getting depressing to salvage a full inventory of items and walk away with 5 silk scraps and 40 thick leather. There needs to be either an option to turn off profession loot bias for 80s or give us more use for Leathers. For goodness sake, we need more Bolts of Damask for full ascended medium armor than Elonian Leather Squares.

I would say all the materials could do with some careful consideration to be honest, not just that one type of leather.

+1 for the principle of reviewing the materials. AN probably do plan to, its just a matter of priority. We are quite a demanding bunch :P

I like killface’s idea. Essentially mystic forge material conversion recipes. It would also be nice of there were some material demotion recipes for more common crafting materials.

You know what would be the simplest solution?

Replace damask with elonian leather in heavy ascended armor recipes. Lowers cloth price, raises leather price, but neither by too much.

If you make a cauldron out of it you can boil the water and do the dishes so kind of a sink. Can also sell the wash water as a potion so some profit.
