We can never return to the jungle
Unless xpac x is GW2: Back to Heart, and expands on the expansion that was HoT

Eye of the forest!
you can return to the jungle any time you want if you bought HoT
It depends on how they handle future expansion. If they expect to sell each one individually or use the 2 box model like other MMOs, they’ll never be able to return to any of them. They’d need to add older expansions to the F2P client, which they may eventually do to keep the population up.

This. If you want access to it, simply buy it. Many other people did and it’s far cheaper than when it released. You’d be saving a lot more now than if you bought it upon pre-purchase or shortly after release. If you aren’t bothered about it, that’s your call.

I think this thread is more about the fact that the story can never go back to the jungle… the story has to have some reasons to NOT go into the jungle each time when going there would make sense…
Sadly im very bad in giving good examples. But stuff like the caladbolg quest where you have to go to orr wouldnt work, if you would need to go to the jungle.
Im very curious how they will handle the aurene stuff, since she is in the jungle… they have to move her into the desert and even then i think we should escort her from the jungle into the desert. But this isnt possible because everyone without HoT would be stuck at that story step.
I was referring to the story, yes. Nothing story related can happen in the jungle ever again.
Unless, of course, it is in an instance. Anyone would be able to be transported to an instance.
You mean like how we can’t go back to Orr…
You mean like how we can’t go back to Orr…
That’s because everyone who plays the game has access to Orr.
But there will be players who have the base game and PoF only and not HoT.
So anything in Dragon’s Stand, Auric Basin, etc have to be worked probably onto special instances where the start of the story is in core Tyria or somewhere on a PoF map.
Because since they aren’t including HoT in the base purchase, they can’t assume everyone has HoT.
They already have the tools for special instances of maps we have. Personal Story from the base game loads instances with the original Lion’s Arch. So it’s not like it’s something impossible to do. It will just likely reduce the number of times the story heads that way.

Point being ‘never return’ is wrong. I mean we’ve got a special totem to pop back to Aurene’s chamber and we don’t have to journey to Rata Novus whenever the LW3 called for it…
… there’s not really much to go back for anyway, is there? Out of the four zones there’s only really two instances that have any importance; Rata Novus and the ‘Egg Chamber’ in Tarir.
We have officially left the jungle forever. Since PoF can be had without HoT, NOTHING going forward can ever go anywhere that is part of HoT or S3, because there will be people who lack access. That is very sad. We can never go to Rata Novus, never return and see Dragon Stand after the death of Mordremoth, never return to Tarir. It’s all gone,
There are all sorts of ways that ANet could have us visit Rata Novus as part of the story, regardless of whether someone owns HoT or not. The easiest is obviously story instances, just the same as we return to Old LA.
And regardless, you can return any time you like by taking another character through HoT/LS3. People who don’t own HoT can’t “return” because they’ve never been.
Phew. Now we can pretend that the disaster that was HoT never happened!
Yeh but problem OP mentions is:
In the current Living Story we often have story parts that dont take place in the actual HoT or Living Story Maps but instead lead us to core zones for example because it fits thematically
Anet will never be able to make future Living World Story Instances in a HoT or one of the old 6 Living Story Maps because that would force people to buy HoT
Could be bad for the Story if there is no free choice for the story writers….
I guess maybe they can make instances that you get just directly teleported to from out of Lions Arch but that sort of feels like a bad way tbh

Even if you were to look at it from a story aspect, as Mordy lies dead, there wouldn’t be any need to go back except to cull his mordrem minions (not sylvari). But it isn’t like they have access to working airships. And they were all compelled to attack by Mord to begin with. So again, we’ve cut the head off the snake and it’s time to deal with a bigger problem.
So if you have HoT and decide to go back, go for it. Story-wise, it’s not where we’re all going next so unless you linger there just to farm mats or finish collections and waiting for the expansion, there really isn’t anything else story-wise keeping anyone there.
