We really need more options when reporting
I agree. I once tried to report someone for being overly sensitive to words on a screen in a game with a profanity filter and oppressing me with their “family friendly” personal and subjective “morality” and there wasn’t an option for that.
One option that needs to be included is inappropriate guild name. I’ve seen some really “interesting” letter combinations, along with their “guild name”.

That is rather irritating. Pet names and guild names aren’t easy to report, and the only why I know of is to route it through support. I really don’t want to clog the support system with that.
The explanation I got was reporting against a character name doesn’t pull the data for guild names and pets. That really needs to be worked on.

Honestly, I rarely, if ever, see offensive material targeted at specific groups. The most offensive things I have seen have been targeted at Christians in game, ironically.
I don’t think its at a level to which a player has trouble avoiding. Usually a simple block works wonders if someone offends you.
The world is full of offenses, it doesn’t mean we get to evict every person who offends.

That’s right in line with one of my favorite (and very obscure) quotes: “You do not have the right to not be offended. You do have the right to walk away.”

Weeeell, technically there’s a code of conduct that applies to everyone who buys. ToS kinda stuff. It’s to prevent one entitled loudmouth from convincing 20 other paying players to “walk away”.
Players may not have the right to not be offended, because life happens, but nor does GW2 give open license to offend. And if being an offensive tea waffle is a mark of pride for someone, that person could stand to do some deep soul searching.

LOL I completely agree. That quote is a general statement about life, and not specifically being targeted towards ToS.

This week I’ve seen one pet with a very offensive name. It did not offend me but I would have reported it if the option was there. Offensive does not just mean rude words. It includes comments on race, religion and terminal diseases to name but a few. That stuff has no place in any game imho.
The reason there isn’t a suggestions forum is because when we had one it was impossible to keep track of – so many people posted so many topics (many of them repeats of existing topics) that even those of us who sometimes spend hours at a time on the forum couldn’t keep up with it. Anet staff who may not visit every day had very little chance of coming across topics relevant to their work.
When they removed it they said what we should do is put topics in the forum section most relevant to them (e.g. WvW suggestions in the WvW section) and then the devs know where to look for ideas relevant to their work, or at least have a better chance of finding them after Gaile or someone else points them to it.
Since we moved to this system we’ve actually seen a number of suggestions implemented (ranging from things like ideas for new gliders – the bubble and the classic glider both came from forum posts) – to things like changes to how WvW matches are determined and the reset times.
As for this idea Anet have said repeatedly that if you want to report something that you don’t feel fits the in-game system, like an exploit or scam that needs more explanation, you can submit a support ticket (with screen shots if relevant). You might not get a personal response, especially if you’re reporting another player as they don’t discuss the outcome of reports with people who aren’t directly involved, but it will get seen.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
Mmmm, I don’t support initiatives like this. I’m strongly against abusive speech and behaviour, but we’re all grown-ups here. We shouldn’t expect devs to censor people for having ‘poor’ tastes that don’t match our own.
Also, let’s be realistic. It’s never going to happen. They seem to be kind of struggling with more important things, like actual game content at the moment. There are also several other missing QOL features that should take precedence over this.
