We finally have a rapier. It supposedly drops from champion pirates in the open world.

I am sorry to ask but is it a skin or is it some sort of new weapon type ? If it is a weapon then what kind of skill does it have ?

My understanding is that it is just a skin for one-handed swords.

It is a sword (berserker stats and sigil of bloodlust I believe)

A rapier is one of the most sought after and requested skin types since well before beta started. Heck some would saying going all the way back to GW1. So I have a feeling its going to stay right where it is, and we should all be thankful it isn’t some kind of mini-legendary mystic forge recipe like the hammer Foefire’s Power.

No the wont. Why do I say this? Because this would be a level 80 weapon I am assuming, thus they want you to buy it and use a Trans Crystal to apply the look to lower level weapons. Trans Crystals = more gem sales. :P

Oh it was definitely wanted back in gw1. The flipping box art had a cool image of a mesmer holding one, but it was never in the game, and melee mesmers weren’t exactly viable.

Are the champion drops a permanent addition to the game?

So why bother buying off the TP?

Just farm them at your leisure or wait till price hits the floor…

Makes sense and I should say they should in theory drop more often than Final Rest too being that the champs spawn a lot faster and can be killed a lot easier by solo players.

I was thinking the same. Also offload ASAP if you happen to get one.
I would expect this to fall lower than Final Rest mainly due to supply. Shadow Behemoth is what? Once every 2.5-3 hours? Champions respawn much faster and there are many more of them out in the world. Even if there was only one champion that drops this … just take a look at Queensdale mapchat and you can expect many more of these to become available(the weapon drops from champion bandit loot bags).

I think we’ll see higher supply for now due to the arena farming, but eventually it’ll level out. I hope ANet waits until the event is over before making some snap decision to nerf drop rates.

I’m excited that they finally added a rapier, but I’m also a bit disappointed that it’s so long! But it feels like I’m nitpicking at this point.

Now, add a rose focus. Or a focus that actually doesn’t look like some overblown piece of metal you carry around.

I expect that to happen when they add ascended weapons. Currently most ascended items have some connection to lore, even if not explicitly stated, and a fan favorite character from the original Guild Wars, the mesmer Gwen, had a focus that looked like a rose in the original game. And she is a bigger part of Guild Wars 2 lore than most people realize, given that she founded Ebon Hawke and is Logan’s ancestor (and possibly part of the true royal family of Ascalon, although that is just speculation….very….very….complected speculation).

Sure they were! I relish the days I spent echoing Endure Pain nonstop. ^^

its been about 30.5 hours since release, there are currently 43 on TP, at about 40g (atm)

This is also permanent and has a chance to drop from all champ bags, you can see how it’ll keep dropping in price and be affordable eventually.

The trouble is I have about 50 gold on me, the most probably I’ve had at one time. I’m torn on getting the rapier ASAP but my sensible side is telling me to wait for it to drop even more on price!

Just wait, they aren’t going anywhere but down in price, not having it this exact second shouldn’t kill you….I hope.

I’m just glad to have a sword that isn’t wider than my character’s waist, I’m kind of sick of oversized cloud buster swords.

Also speaking of rose focus.. know what was a good sword skin, despite being a bit too long? Pic related, ignore the cat ears, they were in season.

I wish they would add a Main Gauche dagger skin to go with it.

Other than that, you can also carry focii that look like a skull, chalices, mug of beers, bottles of wine, a bell, voodoo dolls, a candelabra or the robot from portal..

It would be nice, but it would look incredibly goofy with the reverse-grip that all Dagger skills are animated around. It would probably work better as a second Sword skin (in which case it would match the Warrior and Mesmer off-hand sword parry skills).

It isn’t nearly as bad as you claim. Most people don’t realize that rapiers had extremely long blades, some of them even reaching (or exceeding) 50 inches. It got so bad that a law was made in England limiting them to ‘only’ ~40 inches. While that rapier is certainly too big for her, it looks to be within the size range of actual weapons. Also, it’s worth pointing out that most of the other weapons in this game have grossly exaggerated sizes in many of their skins.

Maybe. Depends on how it scales with a character’s size. That woman could just be tiny.

Given how exaggerated the maces and hammers are in this game, I think we should be glad the blade wasn’t 3 inches wide lol.

I was tempted to buy one for my mesmer, but I felt that a rapier would not be suitable for the slashing animations that the mesmer sword uses.
