"We’ve relaxed our anti-exploiting system for loot and events."
Well I ended farming for like 3 hours straight, usually before the patch I would go for 30mins to 1.5 hours before hitting DR. So I guess its kind of ‘relaxed’ as they have said and its more easier to get loot.
if that is true i think they finaly started to listen to us… hope it goes on. and i would also like to know “relax” actualy means? can we get better info on that one?
I’m glad this has been eased, too.
But I don’t think they will be releasing information on specifics. The theory is, the less botters know on how it works, the better.
The only difference I can see is that you get a minumum of 40% of the normal karma reward instead of 1% minimum. Other than that I don’t see any difference.
Relaxed should mean “we got rid of it so that we stopped insulting our player base”.
Well , not releasing the information is about the same concept as gun restrictions. The botters have figured it out while the people who don’t bot haven’t figured it out, mainly because they have no desire to. In any case the only people who are going to hurt most from this is the non-cheating players…still.
I still completely disagree with their tactic, they basically dropped a nuke on the botters thinking it would kill them off, but they did not stop to think about the innocents that would also be killed. Are the good honest players just collateral damage to them?
Why don’t they just IP ban China, Japan, Vietnam, and the Philippines? That seems to do the job quite well with other MMOs. They get to keep their honest Europeans and Americans and get rid of all the bots. Win/Win. If they still feel the need to allow them to play this game even though they are irresponsible, they can go ahead and give them their own server over there, where they can bot to their little heart’s content.

They won’t IP ban those countries because there are a lot of honest chinese, vietnamese, etc. players, so why ban them all just for the couple % that bot. What you try to do is throwing a nuke down on asian countries and killing a lot of honest people aswell.
Don’t play the bad boy telling others how stupid they are if you don’t have a better solution for the problem.

They never started listening to us, they were always listening to us.
Arena.net is just the best company in the world. Nuff said.
Yes tell us the exact mechanics in public so the I can start scripting my bot to avoid it and ruin the econ more. Don’t worry these guys wont cry about bots I promise!

how do bots ruin the economy ? especially since almost everything in the TP is selling for Vendor Cost already and has been since Pre-Launch Day1
As far as I can tell, you hit DR the same speed you did before, but now DR scales you down much slower.
Example: On Cursed Shore events, I get 370-379 Karma per event, and when I hit DR it starts reducing. Pre-patch it would sharply go down to 140 karma. Now it seems to take much longer to get down to 50% efficiency.
Simple Blighton. You have a character (usually multiple) who run around 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week, non-stop, farming. Something NO player can do.
Thanks to this, the botter now has far more materials and is earning gold from drops far faster. He can then use that to contorl the market. HE can do this by flooding the market with his own materials, forcing players to buy from him. If he has more money, he can also buy out lower sellers, then resell their goods at a higher rate, earning him a profit AND ensuring his contorl on the market lasts.
I’m assuming they have deal with the initial waves of bots enough to let players get more stuff.
Without any external gold sellers and no one playing more than 6 hours per day on average, such measures would have not been needed.
As for telling people how exactly they work, there isno such need.
The ones that need such information are botters themselves. Players should just play normally, and if they seem to hit the loot limit code, then just do something else like PvP or dungeons, or WvW, or fool around with friends in cities. Or, in extreme cases, something else outside the game, like having a walk or playing other game.

Since it’s also a part of their anti-botting approach, it goes without saying really that they won’t give us any details of how exactly it works

Yes, let’s implement a lazy way of countering bots when you should develop an anti-cheat protection embedded in the client like Warden, or even if that doesn’t detect botting (I believe it’s more geared to detect programs modifying client memory) develop something.
The point is, not telling your players about a mechanic that can potentially take loot away from you because their way of countering bots is flawed is pathetic. Grinding to get my legendary or even my exotics from dungeons has to be efficient, else what’s the point? I don’t want to get half my tokens because my guild is good at clearing.
It doesn’t help that the bots run around in packs. I was on my necro in Queensdale yesterday and saw what looked like 20 bears running toward me. I had to look at my mini map to see if I was in some DE I’ve never experienced. It was dynamic, and it was an interesting event, but once I saw their character names, it all became clear. “I wonder what Qindao’s latency is.” Then again, years of experience in FFXI has taught me that if the name is Japanese, it’s probably a westerner, and if it’s a western name, like Lucy, it’s probably a Japanese player. I’m so confused Anet! Help me out here.
Still hit DR in 20-25 minutes, but it only takes away a little bit of karma, taking a 5 minute break letkitteno another 20-25 minutes without DR., meaning I’m getting karma at about 90% of what I was before the DR.
This isn’t that bad, but really the DR should never have been there in the first place.
What are bots going to do with the karma anyway? Buy mining tools? oh noooooo
Fight fire with fire I say.
So we have lots of Gold sellers out there, most likely obtaining their gold using bots and cheap labor in China+ hacked accounts.
If Anet were to just hire a bunch of those people at a 10%+ increase in wage (still peanuts by US standards) to go track down and shut down the bots and accounts involved, the problem would be solved without genuine players being affected. Most of those Gold seller companies are tiny compared to Anet and their massive $ warchest from their 2 million+ players.

The funny thing about this statement, is that the “honest Europeans and Americans” are the people that actually buy the gold from the botters and keep them in business.
Also, I’m sure they could easily find a way to go through US proxy servers or remotely run a bank of cheap local PCs if it comes to IP banning. Blanket dumb responses such as the DR nerf, only work to hurt genuine players. The Gold sellers are intelligent humans who immediately figure out ways to get around the blanket attempt to block them.
