All these great outfits are being added to the game but outfits don’t allow players to be creative and mix and match pieces from other sets to create some really nice armor.

The last couple outfits that have been released have had some really nice parts but we can’t use them without the rest of the outfit.

Please consider releasing oufits as an armor set. We really need more options to make amazing combinations with!

I wouldn’t even mind outfits so much, but I’m getting kind of tired of everything being very human cultural biased. For a moment, even though I thought the wings were ugly… I was happy that it was something ‘norn’ (a raven backpiece??), until I learned they kind of belong with the lich set to begin with. But we get all these human gods things, asian (canthan) themed outfits and armors. Incoming countess Anise and Balthazar outfits. Eh, I understand data-mined isn’t set in stone, but pretty likely we’re seeing these soon.

The amount of armors and outfits we get that look too human cultural far outweighs anything for another race. I bought the winter explorer outfit because I thought it looked norn enough, but still, can’t really do any mixing there.

But when was the last time we saw an outfit or armor set that looked like it belong to Norn? Asura? Charr? Sylvari? All I can think of are the original cultural stuff and their respective dungeon. Obviously I’d want them to be able to fit all races like they do now, but its just really starting to irk me. I guess it was a bit of an off-topic rant, my bad. But I had to get it out.

So I guess back on subject, I don’t mind the existence of outfits. In fact, I would love if they gave us old cultural NPC armor (see above rant) as outfits or something. But yeah, more armor sets to balance it out too please.

No .. but we have that :

I spend hours mixing sets together in the wardrobe and there have been a lot of outfits I would purchase it I could use the parts and not be forced to wear the entire outfit.

Mixing and matching is one of the only ways to be really unique looking in this game and if they keep releasing outfits everyone’s going to eventually look the same.

Give us the option to purchase outfits in pieces!

They get less of my money by putting out outfits. There is usually at least one part of each outfit that I really, really hate, so I won’t buy it. Like the Lunar New Year outfit – loved everything but those huge fan shoulders, which I wouldn’t be caught dead in. Totally killed it for me. Not to mention the whole “put together your own look” thing.

I understand that outfits are probably much, much quicker and easier for them to create, and it must be working out for them financially, but it almost never parts me from my cash. I was very, very glad to see the carapace armor set. There’s hope!

I pretty much agree with everyone in this thread and am posting just to draw more attention to it. The armor mixing and matching is the main thing keeping me coming back to Guild Wars 2. With dye channels and mixing alone I’ve spent hours in the wardrobe. Every time an outfit comes out, I get seriously disappointed because it is a beautiful cosmetic addition to the game, but in a format that doesn’t encourage any creativity or flexibility. Even though so many of the armor pieces are human culturally themed (and subsequently one of the reasons I only play humans), components of them could more fittingly be used on other races if they were armor sets—that would incentivize buying them even more. The armor components that they do release now seem to cater mostly to heavy classes, but also contribute in reducing the aesthetic variety you’re exposed to in the game because they are cross race, profession (armor rating), and gender. Arguably, shouldn’t looking unique be a priority of a roleplaying game?

The new data-mined Anise outfit has to be the biggest disappointment to me if it becomes an outfit. I’ve been anticipating its release since before the game even had beta events. It was showcased as an armor set in multiple blog posts prior to the game’s launch. On top of that, each piece is simple enough to have huge mixing and matching potential and beautiful / detailed / unique enough to use as a complete set. I seriously hope it doesn’t become released as an outfit, even if that means delaying when it is released.

This isn’t a good idea, to be honest.

The main reason why ArenaNet can release outfits is exactly because they’re basically a single piece. That means ArenaNet does not need to worry about how each individual piece would interact with the other armor options available in the game; and since each weight class has different styles, in order to avoid clipping the outfits would have to be different for heavy armor users, medium armor users and light armor users.

In other words, it would be a lot of extra work, which would mean less outfits.

I’d prefer ‘less outfits’ go all the way to ZERO outfits.

I don’t want to say designing outfits is lazy – it’s not lazy… but it is chintzy.

But I vote with my wallet and don’t assume I hold the decisive position. I just continue to ignore them as they appear, while carefully considering and usually buying armor sets when they are made available.

+1 this thread. The outfit thing is getting ridiculous. Players have been complaining about this from the very beginning, but the outfits keep coming.
I’m especially disappointed that the count anise clothing will be an outfit. I really love count anise’s top, but I’d want to choose a different set of pants and shoes. But nope. Outfit.

You put efforts in your work, People appreciate your efforts, People pay because of that more willingly. That’s how things work, and right now the whole outfit policy doesnt sound like " putting efforts "

There are thousands of People that are willing to pay just because single pieces in every outfit that they like, how come this aint MORE profitable ?

I’ve had a theory going through my head for a while now that the reason for their no longer putting armor sets in the gem store, and instead only releasing outfits now and then for almost a year, is because they may be building up a large supply of armor sets to sell in an armor package. Perhaps it will be a package of redone GW1 armor sets to coincide with the GW 10 year anniversary on April 28th.

Then again, maybe the armor designers were needed to work on things for HoT and the switch to outfits from armor sets was simply so that they could toss little effort required skins on the store now and then so that there was still something being put on there.

I’m hoping for the former scenario.

I just hope they didn’t find that they were making just as much (or more) with outfits that require less work than they were from armor sets and completely stop making armor sets for good. Both should continue to be offered and in alternating releases, preferably.

the one thing I like about Outfits is that I can change as many times as I want without additional cost.

Also the armor type of the Armor seems to not be bound by arch-classes (Soldier,Scholar, Adventurer)

Here is simple statistic: I have bought outfits when they were mixable. I haven’t bought outfits since they can’t be mixed anymore.
I would guess I’m not the only one. Arenanet you are missing an opportunity here.

The thing is this. We buy gemstore clothing because they are good-looking, but also to set yourself apart from the rest. You want to look different, better than the rest. You can’t make your character look unique, if everyone is wearing the same outfit with no differences besides the dye.
Plus, you are robbed from the enjoyment of mixing different armor (or outfit) pieces together. For me that was fun and the big selling point of outfits and armor alike. Since this is missing, I’m not buying outfits anymore. You want to have my money again? Make outfit pieces mixable. They don’t have to be mixable with the armor pieces, mixable with only other outfit pieces would have been fine with me and would have gotten me in buying a lot of outfits.

It’s been stated over and over by various influential people that Guild Wars 2 is about aesthetics; Fashion Wars 2.

While I sincerely appreciate the absence of the Pay 2 Win model in Guild Wars 2, I can’t get on board with the increase in outfit releases.

I feel that outfits are lazy, underwhelming, kitten, and generally add to the truly hideous aesthetic that the majority of the middle aged straight male player base has cultivated through the purchase of these rags. If you wish I am willing and able to private message you the amount of money in AUD that I spent on counselling after the Ice Climbers outfit was released a few months back.

While I’m more than sure that there is a well thought out and logical business reason for creating outfits instead of Mix-N-Match armour sets I don’t think it’s fair to the playerbase who primarily play this game for making new and unique armour combos that don’t involve Molten Gauntlets and/or the Hellfire Mask. I for one am far more willing to spend more money on a set of armour that will be able to be used in multiple different outfit combos instead of a single outfit in which the only available customisation is the dye channels.

Nothing I can say here will have a significant impact on the decision, if any, that ArenaNet make on this issue but as Nike.2631 has said, we need to vote with our money for any real change to be made regarding this topic.

I’m aware of the stuff coming out, but if an outfit looks like it should be armor it should be released as an armor set, not an outfit! I understand light armor can and does often look like the outfits, but I’m talking more about the dresses they’ve released in the past.

We want more options from these outfits, we don’t want to all look the same.

outfits should be costumes – funny, seasonal, scary, spooky etc

if an outfit looks like armor it’s just wasted potential especially when we get those instead of normal armor sets

I really want to spend more of my money for this game, they just don’t want it I presume.

@Wetpaw: both yes and no, this way outfist will be redundant because it simply makes them armor sets on different tab

I disagree. The outfits allow certain classes to dress as a different archetype.
My warrior can now dress down into a robe in combat.
Or my Necromancer can put on plated armor for combat. That’s what’s cool about outfits. I do t want that to change. I want more options for the different armor types. Also mix and matching would be nice as well, but I want more heavy armor outfits.

I don’t think anyone wouldn’t prefer if outfits could also be mixed and matched. That’s not the issue here. Outfits are preferred because they’re easier to produce. Each piece introduced needs to be checked to ensure it fits with all other pieces of gear in the game, that is each new soldier piece needs to be checked against every chest and head armor.

I start to despise outfits.
Especially the mass of human-centered stuff that clips like heck with asura- and charr-anatomy.

Non-clipping armor-combinations. Anet has a thread where you can post screenshots, which seem to have the sole purpose to be ignored by ArenaNet. I haven’t heard of a single issue in that thread being resolved.
They couldn’t even fix the clipping of the profane greatcoat’s sleeves through almost every glove except the profane one’s on asuran chars. And the profane armor was one of the first armors to hit the gem-store.
