This is an update to the situation where soulbound items have been incorrectly soulbound to the wrong characters. After further investigation we’ve determined that there is damage to almost all character records that were played this morning, not just to those who transferred soulbound items to or from a bank. To repair the damage, we will have to roll back the state of the game and characters to prior to this morning’s release.
No one wants to lose a play session’s progress. We apologize for this. I’m sure you’ll also have questions about exactly what a rollback means to you. The general answer is that everything about the game state, including things like trading post transactions, will be restored to how it was prior to this morning’s release. The only unusual case will be that if you purchased the game or purchased gems this morning, you’ll still get your purchase.
The process of rolling back and then validating everything to bring the game back up will take hours. We’ll keep you updated. There will be a period of time when these forums will be unavailable, but we’ll post updates through other channels.
Good luck to operations, roll-backs can be messy.
I’ll go spend time with my family.

I understand that bugs happen in the live environment versus the testing environment and going through QA, but there have been some serious bugs introduced into the game since Season 3 launched when there was talk about quality content being produced with the 2 – 3 month episode timeframe.
I do not believe Guild Wars 2 had such a serious problem before even back when you were on a 2 week schedule on Season 1 or Season 2. I wish you all the best in fixing these issues and preventing them in the future
so with this reroll does it mean i lost all progress for events? like the blood stone crazed mobs. does that get rolled back as well? i hope not.. those were really hard to get. especially the bloodstone slivers.. but more importantly i wouldnt want to have to redo the bloodstone crazed monsters..
Oh god. I spent a huge chunk of time this morning farming buried locked chests to get rid of my zephyrite keys. Now I’m going to have to do it all over again, AND I lost a fossilized insect too.
Oh god how much I wish I had insight to your code to realize how it is even possible to randomly create a bug like this.
Computers are weird like that.
In my old job we created a new version of the Access database we used to register enquiries. Nothing major, just some small changes.
It was tested by the same 7 people who would use the final version, on the same computers and we all agreed it appeared to be bug-free. The only thing we did after that was move it to another location on the server.
Somehow that introduced a bug where if you clicked the blank space next to a button (which should do nothing at all since it’s blank space) it would ask if you wanted to save the record, and if you clicked yes it would crash the program.
That was about a year before I changed jobs and we never were able to work out why it did that, and therefore couldn’t fix it. We just had to warn the new people that if you hadn’t clicked save and it asked if you wanted to you should click no.

What are you doing in terms of compensation for this change? I mean, will dailies that were cleared during this period be automatically cleared, or will we just miss out on that daily progression entirely? Will we get our loot compensated somehow? I mean, usually when a game takes things away from players that they have earned, they give something back as fair compensation.

I doubt they’re thinking about that now. They’re probably just trying to get the bug fixed and the servers back online.

Oh well, I’m pretty lucky I just lose 60% of Frostgorge Sound completion, a 40 minute work… gonna be more annoying for those who actually finished achievements or got some precursor drops or whatever…
Since the patch dropped at Noon EDT, 9a PDT, around 4p GMT/1600 UTC. I would say it will be restored to a state before this.
However the next question I have is will we be getting the previous version of the game or are the servers going to be down until they fixed this version?
a still prayer to everyone who found their first precursor after over 3 years today and will lose it
i feel your pain
By the Bear…
I can’t even fathom what I would feel like if this happened to me. I really hope this didn’t happen to anyone. The rollback would suck away a huge chunk of their souls.
Can we get a warning before the servers come up? The TP is going to be a kitten show… can we at least all get a fair chance at it?
lol… a warning… for the few people that are in here? haaa… when they come up it will be a mad dash to get online… and it will be a fair chance all round… although not sure what you want a ‘fair chance’ at…
I don’t think a rollback is a decision they take lightly. They have acted quickly to limit the damage but there are always going to be some unlucky players who lose something a bit special as a result.
Imagine how much worse it would be if it was a 24 or 48 hour rollback.
Understand the technical issue but surprised the drive system doesn’t use snapshot volumes.
We snapshot just before an install, run and if there is a problem restore the release snapshot which typically takes a few seconds. Course a good snapshot system like NetApp or EQLogic isn’t cheap.

“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
But in all seriousness, I don’t really care much about compensation, but for people who lost some pretty valuable content, like ultra rare drops, or whatever, then I’d say some form of compensation is only fair, for them, at least.
At this point, all the compensation I need is a hug…
Even though I know nothing of your age, gender or, ahem, preferences, I’m sending you a big fat hairy man-hug. I may even slap you on the back. No hair stroking though. That would be too weird.

Down until they’ve fixed this version, I believe. There was something new on the gemstore to buy, and some people got the mini Garm before the shutdown. To avoid conflict between gemstore data and main game data (the fact that it will remember if you bought gems tells me there’s different data sets there), there has to have been something for you to buy. Letting the game think you’ve purchased something that doesn’t exist might create even more problems.

Hmm i farmed 200 hard wood logs for legendary, guess i’l gotta refarm those spirit wood planks require for Astralaria I.
And if rollback doens succeed within 2 hour 13 min, European people will have lost all ability to do daily stuff (home instance farm, Converter use, mawdrey, daily ap (2g)), while not a disaster, this feels a bit of let down.
Wouldn’t feel bad that everyone who’s affected by rollback (or maybe everyone), gets a compensation (like at least 2g, wich = what almost everyone gets by doing the daily).
Legendary weapons can be hidden now!
No excuse anymore for not giving ‘hide mounts’-option
No thanks to unidentified weapons.
