First i must say that i love most of new changes. Some more than other because of my playing style but i like them all, except the weapon skill progressions and downed state. Its just weird. The old system lvl true using was much better because you used a weapon and learned new skill. It was more like real life. Do something for some amount of time and you will get better. Now it will be more like you know how to use a sword, no problem the staff handles the sam way. It makes no sense.
The other thing is the downed state. Why taking it away till lvl 10. If people have trouble whit it, witch i doubt make a heart to teach them the downed. Its just odd to change it at lvl 10. Arena net i really like that you want to help new players and thats cool. Just don’t make GW one of those games that you can complete and master whit no effort. Like click ok please, congratulation you have an legendary. Remember Rayman.

I have to agree, the skill unlocking on weapons felt rather natural and fun to do… I also think it could have been combined nicely with a level up system that unlocks skills on it. Basically:
lvl1: #2 skill slot is open on all weapons, you can learn this skill by using the weapon.
Lvl2: #3 skill slot is open on all weapons, you can learn this skill by using the weapon.
lvl3: #4 skill slots opens up on all weapons, you can learn this skill by using the weapon
lvl4: #5 skill slot opens up on all weapons, you can learn this skill by using the weapon.
lvl5: First utility skill opens up, you now have 4 skill points and some from doing skill-point-challenges, unlock a few skills and try them out.

As far as the downed state goes, I think it should have been part of some of the earliest things you do in the game, basically THE thing to do during the first ‘story mini boss’ you fight. The boss should one shot you and you should be instructed to rally, there should be like 3x as much ‘rally life’ left in you to give you the time to read tool tips and instructions. If for some reason you did not manage to rally, it should auto rally you, this boss should down you roughly 3x during the fight (at boss: 90% HP, 70%, 50%, 25%). With instructions at every time you are downed…

We are peace, we are war. We are how we treat each other and nothing more…

Giving a sense of achievement by unlocking character features during leveling up may sounds great on board, but will inevitablely make the first 22 level boring as hell(i think you will have all your skill bars unlocked at lvl 22, since anet claimed to have WvW and PvP unlock at lvl 22), and making some classes unnecessarily hard at his early career (i’m looking at you mesmers and thieves… for mes most of the damaging phanstasms are at weapon skill 4,5, and thieves have most of their stealth access locked (easier one btw, ie, CnD, leap through black powder), making early game extremely boring AA click feast :P .

This is expecially brutal for ppl wishing to create multiple characters of the same class, just imagine you have to get through that boring 1-20ish lvl.

but i digress, craft lvling still rules :P

Well, that’s what all those lvl 20 scrolls are for, right?

By the way, WvW and PvP are not locked; they just won’t show up in the top left menu bar. You can still enter these game modes through Asura Gates or using your hotkeys.

Always question your assumptions.

this change is kinda ok, because you are introducent to PVP when u know how to play plus its only for your first character.
