Ever since the expansion pack, the damage output across each weapon types goes upside down with each balance patch nerfs, now this is going almost the same situation across almost all classes.

Meta runner might not care, but this is really hurting this game as a RPG, because normal logic for swapping weaponry no longer apply here, in all these confusions we now referring to online guides or meta sites more than ever :

Damage output wise (PVE, Mainhand, High to Low):
Melee:
Dagger > Sword > Greatsword
Mace > Hammer

Range:
Pistol > Rifle
Short bow > Long bow

Almost every weapon class does more damage than its greater version.

If it were up to me, you couldn’t kill a heavily armored character with a Greatsword at all. That’s how it is in real life as well.

Yannir for males. (guard,thief,war,ele)
Sonya for females. (necro,rev,ranger,mes,engi)
All classes lvl 80.

Why would you care about the meta damage rankings of weapons while you’re roleplaying?

And dps =\= damage per skill, Greatswords and LBs have higher Damaging skills but since they are large have lower attack speeds( you know similar to reality) and then there are factors like Greatswords Cleaving more players 3 vs 2, then whatever bonus effects like some GS attacks apply Vulnerability which increase the damage being dealt and so on…..

And on the two classes that use Shortbow, one doesn’t do any damage really and the other the Longbow Does considerably more actual damage…

I guess it’s just so that character concept and reality can align? Big bruisers should look and carry weapons like big bruisers, and it’s annoying when you have to switch to smaller weapons to fill that role while in combat.

I’m a RPer with far, far too many characters, and for a lot of them the weapon choice is part of the character. It has annoyed me greatly when a weapon choice has been nerfed down to where the character became less enjoyable to play, and giving them new weapons feels wrong. I’m guessing the topic creator feels the same way.

Sarcasm, delivered with a
delicate, brick-like subtlety.

There’s no such thing as a “greater version” of a weapon. Daggers might look like tiny swords and greatswords like big swords, but (especially in this game), they aren’t related. They serve different functions.

The only thing that matters is they can be used for their in-game intended purpose. I think they do, but I’m willing to entertain an argument about why they might not, if the OP is willing to type one up.
