Just wondering if anyone else does this sort of thing, because I’ve pretty much decided to go with something like this for all my characters. I’d be interested to see what other people have come up with, assuming anyone else does the same thing.

I’ll assign each character 1 or 2 “themes” and match all of their weapon skins to those, so my weapons will feel like kind of a coherent set. Some of them are relatively specific, others sort of vague. Some based on the character in some way, others just kind of out of nowhere (or because I like a certain couple of weapons that happen to fit).

Thus far, on each of my level 80 characters, I’ve assigned them these themes…

Charr Ranger – Nature and Technology, based off the character (Charr being more tech-based and Ranger being nature). For the nature weapons I’m doing either things representing nature like animals like Rox’ Bow or Arachnophobia, or things actually made out of natural materials like shells / bones such as Godskull Sickle or Krayt Welk. For the tech, designs that actually represent technology such as the Adamant Guard Sword (gears), Steam Bow (also gears… what, gears are cool), and Dredge Lamp.

Sylvari Mesmer – Particle effects. Very broad theme, but basically I just want weapons that are flashy and will make flashy clones. Using stuff like the Wintersday Greatsword, Super Sword and Scepter skins, and Centaur Staff.

Asura Elementalist – Elemental weapons. Pretty boring and standard for an Ele, but whatever. There are a lot of elemental-based skins I like, and its standard because it fits perfectly. Using stuff like Tsunami, Mystic Spike, Peacemaker Staff, and the like.

Sylvari Guardian – Crystalline weapons. Nothing really to do with the character, I just knew I wanted to use some Sylvari T3 cultural weapons as well as Priory weapons so took what was common between the two and used that for the theme. Aside from those two sets which I’m drawing a lot of weapons from, I’m also counting ice weapons (since ice is technically crystalline) and using some Kodan / Corrupted stuff and Coldsnap.

Charr Engineer – Animal based and Black / White. 2 different unrelated sets because I couldn’t decide between the two. Animal theme based somewhat on Charr themselves, but more just because I really wanted to use tkittenon Vanguard Shield and the Godskull Pistol. Black and White because she used to be black and white, though I’ve now recolored her to yellow and black, so its just a throwback to her original fur colors (and also partially the fact that I dig the Vigil rifle).

I’ve had to stretch a few weapons I want to use to fit my themes (I wanted to use Breath of Flame with my Ranger so stretched it to “it looks like fire, drakes use fire, therefore its natural” :p) but so far its given me some good direction on which weapons I want to use. And I haven’t had many problems finding weapons to fit the theme.

Well, one problem. I can’t really find any crystalline torches for my Guardian. None of the usual sets have much crystal at all on them (just a little on the bottom or something most of the time). Best I’ve come up with is the Beaded Torch just because it has jewels on it, but… eh, not very happy with that fit.

How about everyone else?

I do the same thing for my warrior. My PvP set I went for a teeth and bones monster theme. On the PvE side I went for an Ice theme(still working on frostfang to match).

Yes, I have pretty much the same thing going on my mes – anything flashy or mystical looking – nothing uncommon there but it works really well with the bio-luminescence.

My warrior, who I play as the polar opposite of my sylvari mes is now done with GS CoF-farmfests is moving back to the much more fun hammer build. To this end, he’s done up in everything spiky heavy-plate and spikes. The Ugly Stick for the hammer (check it out in-game, it’s sweet, charr T3 heavy head, mixed pieces for the body. and I was debating getting a Charr plush backpack for him cause you know, it’s nothing personal, he’s got mouths to feed XD

I’m doing it like that as well.

My sylvari guardian, for example, is a shining knight sort of theme, his armor is a mix of vigil, CoE and heritage (still a work in progress), and he’s using mainly the guild commendation weapons (greatsword, staff, shield… still looking for a good looking scepter to round it up).

My norn mesmer, on the other hand, uses more “flamboyant” style of weapons, mainly uses staff, greatsword (both the super skins) and scepter (princess wand)/pistol (still looking for a good looking one), though depending on how easy or hard to get they might end up being, I might replace staff and pistol for the jade ones.

I’m slowly leveling an asura warrior that I plan on having a more fierce spikes everywhere style, but (a long way to 80) still not sure on what style of weapons I’ll use on him, leaning to the firey ones for the time being, maybe couples with the flame and frost gauntlet that I’m yet to claim…

It’s a pile of Elonian protection magic, mixed with a little monk training,
wrapped up in some crazy ritualist hoo-ha from Cantha.
A real grab bag of ‘you can’t hurt me. They’re called Guardians.

Anyone who cares how they look do this I assume. First part is making sure the weapons don’t clash with the armor though…And since you actually did ask for it
Norn Ranger: Simple looking weapons, preferably Viking-looking (Eir’s, basic loot skins)
Sylvari Elementalist: Plant looking (cultural t3)
Human Thief: Elegant looking (Glimmerfang,whispers,inquest)
Asuran Mesmer: Technomagical looking (cultural t3)
Charr Engineer: Will be usual 12-year old stuff
I know…but I like race/prof/lore meshes
