Looking at the current status of weapons in this game, it seems really… odd.

Thieves and Warriors dang near required to have bows on their person. Guardians should always have a staff on.

Ranger bows are rather meh in most cases. Ranger melee on the other hand is amazing.

Elementalist’s running around in short range with daggers.

I don’t know. It seems the most effective weapons for certain classes don’t really fit the archtype that I imagine many think when they see them. I certainly find it odd that if I want to focus strongly on using a bow (I love bows) I shouldn’t pick ranger. Or if I want the most effective swords, I should go with Ranger over Warrior.

That said, I do like the variety of things you can do with classes when compared to to other MMO. I just find the use of some of them rather odd in cases. Odder still that the general consensus at the moment is that Ranger is getting a staff soon.

Mesmer : Stuck with Sword/Focus and GS for fast targeting and tagging. Good luck tagging with staff and scepter.

This is a good thing. Just wish the 2-5 slots were customizable. Even one alternate skill per slot would be infinitely useful and amazing.

Or uh, dual classing to select from another class’ weapon skills. No idea how that’d work for something like elementalist but it’d be cool to revisit the idea, since it was so central to GW1.

…yeah I know, never happen. One can dream.

My preffered weapons on Ranger is Longbow/Shortbow. I hate sword, its too unruly. Axe makes me feel weak, I dont feel like Im hitting anything.

My warrior uses hammer/rifle, though its bow is good.

I run glass staff/scepter on my ele. GS/axe on warrior, or Ham/sword.

Just curious…

Thieves and Warriors dang near required to have bows on their person.

Well, I have bows on those two classes, so OK, but I almost never use them. Where do you see these being used?

Guardians should always have a staff on.

Other than TA Ex for blossoms, I would never slot a staff on my guardian. Why do you say that?

Ranger bows are rather meh in most cases. Ranger melee on the other hand is amazing.

I agree that ranger bows are poorly designed for some game modes, notably a lot of PvE. How is ranger melee amazing? Is it because its damage is better than bow? I find the GS to be slow, and sword 1 the most frustrating #1 melee skill in the game.

Elementalist’s running around in short range with daggers.

OK, now that is odd, but it’s way more fun than staff or scepter.

Odder still that the general consensus at the moment is that Ranger is getting a staff soon.

I remember using staff on ranger in GW for BM or trapper builds. However, the general consensus where?

Staff ele is realty good atm so is scepter ele so the old d/d ele not that one and only build any more. Its just a time thing some weapons are weaker but in time they will become better as they have done for ele and for other classes.

Main : Jski Imaginary ELE (Necromancer)
Guild : OBEY (The Legacy) I call it Obay , TLC (WvW) , UNIV (other)
Server : FA

Many guardians carry a staff for lots of reasons. One being it’s super easy to tag lots of mobs that way. It’s also the only source of swiftness they have besides a long CD shout that wastes a valuable utility slot. It also provides 12 stacks of might which is nice in dungeons and WvW. Not to mention the Line of Warding which is invaluable in WvW.

As for ele, I never liked the d/d build, even when it was OP. Staff is by far my favorite, especially now, though it really only shines for me when full glass cannon.

I see bow on warrior and thief constantly. A shortbow is an absolute must for just about any Thief build due to easy spammable blast finisher and combo fields. Warrior bows are just highly effective and very strong and allow a massive amount of burst on a Warrior due to stacking blast fire fields.

Staff Guardian, I’ve yet to find a decent Guardian that didn’t carry one: huge aoe, decent healing, and most importantly the best buff in the game.

Ranger Swords are rather powerful, highest single target DPS on a ranger is longsword 1, and it’s greatsword just brings a lot of goodness. Not saying its bad thakittens strong, but when it comes down to it, the longsword is no doubt better than say, warriors, and the greatsword for ranger is more involved.

As far as stakitten for ranger goes. First: I’ve seen it argued quite heavily here in the GW2 forums. Second: a-net said no on ever having guns or pistols for Ranger. Which leaves maces, and various magical weapons like scepter or staff. And the magical stuff fits their nature theme.
