Weapons and gear breaking is 100% useless
There was a time where it did cost money. And it is worth it. Otherwise people who just keep dying and rezzing for something instead of trying.
And WvW most certainly needs it.
Well, I don’t know if you played the game when repairing had a cost.
They did an election where one of the candidates offered to nullify the repair cost to the ppl that where fighting for Tyria.
She won, and she honored her word as a polititian, hence she removed the cost of repair.
Sooo I do get you, but lore wise you must understand that it is free to the players that are basically the army, but the NPC that are not part of the army don’t get their armor fixed for free.
So yeah, it is not free, Tyrian government is basically paying for it.

Then only allow gear to break in WvW, it’s completely useless everywhere else in the game. And it’s still pretty useless even inside WvW, you can just WP and repair at the spawn. Chances of you dying 7 times completely and getting hard rezzed in 1 fight is slim to none.

Ah gotcha, that’s a more logical answer then above, thank you.

You’re welcome ^_^

Actually it was Evon that removed the repair cost after losing the election.

Ellen’s campaign during the election was for a 4 week reduction in WP fees.

(~~~~)>O___O Mind blown!
What’s the point of even keeping durability in this game? It doesn’t cost anything to repair, it just inconveniences you and wastes your time. Just remove it.
What alternative do you suggest?
- Return to the old system: you pay for both repairs and waypoint costs. Tedious and yet little more consequential than the existing system.
- ‘Break’ armor after one death (instead of just damaging it). This is more consequential in that people would be forced to repair right away, instead of being able to go 8 deaths before needing to do so. But does that improve people’s game experience?
- Add a new core mastery for repairs, which would annoy all existing players.
The current system isn’t fantastic; it’s just a nice compromise between the typical tedious & annoying repair system of other games and completely eliminating consequences for dying.
If you come across a dead person in their underwear you know not to waste your time stopping to rez them

Well, the obvious replacement is to not have any damage or durability at all…
I suspect that removing the cost was fairly trivial, but removing the routine that causes armor damage in the first place would not be.
