During the Twitch interview with Colin one of the items that caught my attention was about professions.
He stated that they would most likely add weapons to the current professions before adding new professions.

I personally find that exciting. I would rather use a battle axe over the hammer and maybe even over the greatsword.

Warriors are those who choose to stand between their enemy and all that he loves or hold sacred

Don’t get your hopes up. He said that the problems with professions etc. was balancing. So adding a new weapon is hard to balance aswell.

I think he ment giving like Necro’s greatsword, rangers staff etc. Like giving old professions new weapons. Since they would kind of have something to build out from, since other classes usually uses the weapons

possible weapons coming that are both thematically correct and fulfill a certain roll

Engineer: 2 hand Hammer – This will hopefully be a condition weapon with one or two control skills to synergies well with current engineer builds as well as create a very unique weapon with a unique toolset

Engineer: Offhand Torch- Defensive Condition weapon, perhaps giving a fiery shield or blast finisher on skill 4 while skill 5 being an apply burning on hit buff similar to flamethrower toolbelt, this is give kit switching much more strategic thinking and synergy.

Thief: 2 hand Longbow or Rifle- this im not quiet sure, but the rifle or longbow could be long range 1200 ambush sniping weapons, the rifle allowing a Thief to hide in stealth for a snipe on a target while the longbow being more on an aoe condition weapon similar to warriors LB but with more mobility

A new weapon might balance it more though, by filling a gap the profession has.

I would like this as a change of pace. It would give me a reason to make more alts. I play most of my professions with the “less than desirable” weapon sets anyway because the ones everyone says to use bore me to death. I’m not saying I’m good with them but the preferred weapons for each profession just don’t seem fun for me.

On the other hand I think people might start complaining because the new weapons didn’t fit into their current builds. What am I saying? Any change draws out a ton of complaints.

Adding weapons most likely means adding more single hand weapons for additional skill combinations – if that’s the case then I would absolutely support these changes, or else please don’t give up on the idea on expanding weapon-skills variations to all existing weapon!

This is good too I love Fire condition.

But Mesmer use a GS and this is fine.

I’d love to see Elementalists get the Rifle. Long range, single target. Have little hermetic circles flash around the end of the barrel as they fire it, to show that they’re using their magic to empower it.

Think of it less as “Greatsword” and more “Executioner’s Blade”, and I think it fits just fine.

I like the idea of new weapons a lot, like melee staff warrior or dagger warrior, rifle and pistol for ranger. Hammer, sword even bows for engineer, GS for elem and necro, the list goes on and on…
May be some unusual dual wielding like dual wands or dual focus.
Anyway lots of possibilities, I hope they have some nice surprise in stock for us.

I like the idea of new weapons too but more a long the line of weapons unique to professions to give them a bit of identity.

Some examples:
Fan off-hand for mesmer
Whip for thief.
Bare hand combat for thief

er can’t think of more right now- I just drew a blank but you hopefully get the idea.

I would really like to see this, rather than just our existing weapons moved around until all classes can use all weapons- what would be the point of that?

Maybe an actual scythe? I mean, the staff gets to look like one, but you can’t chop your way through a tide on enemies with it can you? I’d love my Necro to have an actual scythe.

Also, Morrigan, fans for Mesmers and whips for Thieves would be absolutely amazing.

Don’t get your hopes up. He said that the problems with professions etc. was balancing. So adding a new weapon is hard to balance aswell.

While this is true, you have to conssider that adding another weapon can help to balance others.

Take as example Mesmer Scepter. It’s been since release (when they got rid of conf on auto) that neither players or Anet can tell if it’s a power weapon (auto is just dmg, but it’s hella slow, and 2+3 still pack dmg) or condition (torment and confusion). It’s there in the middle ground, being terrible at anything.

Adding another ranged MH (aka: Pistol) would allow to finally give an identity to Scepter in a full condition (most likely) or power weapon by giving the other spec to the MH Pistol.

Stealth and cowardly backstabbing from the class that is built for stealth and backstabbing … riiight. That’s like saying, “oh, more swords and cowardly hiding behind that heavy armor for Fighters!”. Congrats, most ridiculous thing I’ve heard all week. (but it’s early, so unlikely as it is, someone might beat you)

And Thieves have a lower than average number of weapons. Eles and Engis have fewer, but they also get Kits and Elemental Focuses (or whatever they’re called) to do pretty much the same thing.

Long as its reasonable weapons. Greatswords dont work for necros, and stakitten dont work for non magic characters. Engineers need more weapons, preferably something….good. Rifle sucks, and pistols keep getting me into more fights than I intend, and shield….is shield. I get they have the weapon kits instead, but Id prefer actual weapons to use too.

Seriously though
I adore Engi but to me even though they have few actual weapons, they are so well covered, I can’t come up with one.

I was also thinking about Ranger and if you had to expand the class by weapons- I can go with a quarterstaff maybe.

Engineer needs a melee Main-Hand.

It has some of the coolest Off-hand weapons in the game (AoE immobilize+cripple OH Pistol, reflect+daze shield), but we’re forced to use one of the worst weapons: Pistol MH.

Pistol MH is ranged, but our off-hands are all melee-range. So shouldn’t we get a melee main-hand like Mace?
