I have been an avid(is that the correct word?) gamer for almost a decade. First game i played was Sim Golf and from there on PC gaming has been my main hobby/past time.

In biology there are something called bioindicators. Those are species that specify the health or state of a certain environment.

I have played a lot of MMOs starting from Runescape and Tibia. Later Mu online, Lineage and WoW(3 years on and off). My favourite so far has been GW(as far as MMOs are concerned).

Not once have i gotten this many account hacking e-mails as i have in Guild Wars 2. Almost once a week i get a letter, that i have to log in from this or that site, to verify my account otherwise they will lock it(best one was that legal action will be taken, lol).

All of that made me think that Guild Wars 2 has to be very successful to have such a devoted account hacker community.

I know this a far fetched theory to prove that Gw2 is doing well, but hey, it’s internet, so who is “gonna” stop me. ^^

Have a nice sunday,

well, guild wars 2 will automatically send you a email that needs your verification because “someone” is trying to log in form a “different area”.

this happens when you play gw2 from several different computers (your desktop comp, laptop),when you try to play at your friends house (or on another place), as well when your IP changes (if you have a dynamic IP then it will change from now and then, resetting your router also sometimes changes your IP)

ive been playing mmos (tons of different ones) fro about …6 -7 years? and i have never been hacked either, and never have gotten any of those false emails on any game.

There are sometimes some emails that are false, and they try to get your acc info and then you will surely get hacked, so be careful about that.

An example would be of my friends wow acc. he used tons of addons and left his email all over the place. the result ? he was constantly getting false emails claiming that his acc will be closed (for no real reason) and that he needed to go to a nice looking but false wow web site and enter his email and password.

From my experience, when GW 2 sends me emails it looks like this :

i open the client, log in, get a notification that its temporarily locked (cause of a recent IP change,or i went to play on my laptop that i didnt play on for a long time), then i go to my mail, click the button on the mail, it sends me to the gw2 web site ,i tick “remember this xyz” and click verify.

Now…if i get a email telling me that my acc will be shut down and it requires my acc info ,my password and email..i would just ignore those and have no fear of ever getting hacked

It probably means that you just frequent less than secure websites and they have put a cookie on your comp that tracks your web history. It’s a targeted attack just for you.

Clear your cookies and run a malware scan.

You can be sure of it. I was curious once after people mentioned farming bots in Orr. Made a simple search and there are plenty of forum communities making these programs and others and selling them. Was a lot easier to find than I expected which isn’t a good thing. Though I don’t know why people would buy such things when it will only get them banned since obviously they aren’t good enough to make it themselves thus most likely don’t know how to do much else after they get banned except for cry that they wasted $40 on a game that they cannot play and however much they paid for some buggy/might not work program that they can no longer use to get them something such as gold that they could’ve just bought through the game to support Anet. ^.^
