As most people by now, I have read the new blog entry from ArenaNET where they talk about the economic status of GW2.

And while the title was named ’State of the GW2 Economy" it was pretty sad to see that almost no information was given about the actual state of the economy.

But this is not what the topic is about.

I want to talk about this little quote from the blog post:

“The problem was the 1.46 million weapons purchased by 4,862 players, which averages over 300 weapons per player. There is a fundamental difference here between players who got a cheap weapon and players who found a bug in the game and took advantage of it. The latter attempted to create wealth for themselves at the expense of the other millions of players that are injured by exploiting behavior.”

So while I know that the blog said that ArenaNET is taking these matters seriously, I seem to miss the part where ArenaNET mentioned if these people were pushed for their exploitation!

So what I want to know is this, were these people punished? were they banned? did they have their gold removed from them? Or were they just let off with a warning?

What happened to them?

They all got either permanent or 3-day bans, depending on how much they abused the exploit. Once there was an uproar about the perma-bans, they offered to reduce them to 3-day bans as long as those players submitted an appeal, and deleted the items and gold that they got from the exploit themselves once they got their accounts back. Those that didn’t do that went back to being perma-banned.

Standard Operating Procedure for abusing exploits is a ban. Always has been.

They where given an opportunity to delete all those wpns and get rid of the profits if they ever wanted their account unbanned. So arenanet gave them 3 day chance to get rid of em. and send them proof per instruction.

Wonder how many of the exploiters followed through and deleted all of em.

If you read reddit there is a whole long article about that exploit. ANet representatives basically come in and if people were banned and asked why, they told them. Cold and open. I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT. The whole sheepish ‘I didn’t do anything wrong’ was placed in the open for all to see. If it was a ‘chat’ issue etc.

Should go find it, quite humorous.
