On Anet’s latest post, there’s this screenshot of an asura to the right wearing cultural armor with a shiny dye that I’m just not able to find. Here’s a screenshot from their website:

I’ve checked all the “Grey” and “Metallic” dyes in the game but can’t find one that looks like it. Any help?

I think it’s normal for the asura armor. I’m not at home so can’t really check right now, but I do remember the asura heavy cultural armor being very reflective and shiney, at least when compared to other armors, at least T2 and T3 (that asura is wearing T3)

It’s a pile of Elonian protection magic, mixed with a little monk training,
wrapped up in some crazy ritualist hoo-ha from Cantha.
A real grab bag of ‘you can’t hurt me. They’re called Guardians.

You’ve also got to remember that lighting affects how dyes look. As an example my warrior with Abyss dye often looks like he’s got some sort of silver dye on instead

I have the heavy asura cultural armor myself. Can’t seem to get it to look that way

I figured it out. In the graphics settings, there’s an option called “Shaders”. The max shininess comes when it’s set to “Medium”. It’s strange, but putting it on “High” reduces the super polished look of the Asura cultural heavy armor.

It looks like juggernaut chrome effect…

I know he’s wielding a sword, but sometimes if i switch juggernaunt→ weapon set the chrome effect glitches and carries over to the other weapon. That’s the only thing I can think of.

That’s a PvP screenshot. To my knowledge we can’t have legendary skins in the heart of the mists can we?

Some armors have really different textures that cause due to become shinier. If you look at the AC or CM heavy armor it’s very dull and ruddy, but compare that to Banded or human T2-3 Cultural and there’s a massive difference. Anyway, that looks like Asura cultural armor.

I think that asura T3 heavy uses very strong envinroment texture which gives the metal parts this chrome, polished feel, and it has nothing to do with a dye. AFAIK, it’s usually a small texture taken from… well, the environment you’re in. A picture of the horizon usually, might as well be the skybox texture, anything that imitates a reflection on the surface of the armor. Or a random forest, haha.
Same as the specular, those materials look the best in neutral lighting (like the hero panel), or slightly shadowy places.

As the OP figured out already, they’re visible at medium/high shaders.

No, No, No! Mummified flesh on the left! Dried bones on the right!
