What End-Game Options Are There?
Well there are no raids but there are several dungeons (8 in total and 1 more coming with next patch). There are also fractals but you might get bored of them quickly. I’d recommend getting into a friendly, semi-big guild. Everything is more fun with friends and there is also a lot of guild exclusive content. This game is very new so there isn’t all that much end-game content out yet so if you compare it to a game like WoW, you are going to be disapointed.
Then there are also PVP and world versus world(WvW). WvW is basically this huge map with armies (zergs) of people fighting each other and trying to take control over the map. You can also start saving for unique, expensive skins to show your commitment and look awesome.
So, all there is to do is world pvp and 5 man dungeons?
1) Endgame content
Guild Missions (large scale coordinated content)
Fractals (a dungeon which scales to infinity in difficulty)
43 dungeon paths
Skin acquisition/Legendaries
World vs. World
Everything in the game since you are downscaled for content – 3000+ dynamic events
New content released each month
2) Progression
No ilvl requirement for any content, but is easier with better gear.
You need Agony Resist gear for higher level fractals (ascended gear) to survive, but you are not locked out of it. Better players can run with less ascended gear.
Fine < Masterwork < Rare < Exotic < Ascended < Legendary
You will finish leveling with mostly Masterwork & Rare, map completion gets you a few Exotics. Exotic equipment is obtained through dungeon tokens, crafting/farming, karma (xp), etc.
Ascended gear is obtained through Fractals, Dailies, Guild Missions, etc.
Your Legendary is BIS forever.
The endgame options there are….
Hearts – Mega fun super enjoyable collection/assist/kill tasks that you have to do. There is no set number so it isn’t like WoW… but there is a bar to fill up. Thats completely different to having to complete a set number.
Events – Same as hearts just a bit more random… just joking they happen every minute in the same place.
5 man dungeons – 5 Man dungeons that are really hard and require alot of timing, rolling only when needed and alot of teamwork. One mistake from one player and you’re out. Just joking it’s really easy. You should have fun because its nice and easy. But you need to grind crafting, hearts or events to get to the first dungeon, which then you have to grind to get higher to get into the next dungeon and so on. This endgame content isn’t unlocked at the start of the game. You are locked out of it untill then. Considering the whole game is meant to be endgame this sucks a bit. I guess higher level = skill.
WvWvW – Watch out don’t go there unless you’re level 80. You will get owned unless you’re amazing at the game. Just kidding you will get owned.
sPvP – If you like doing same thing over and over again in terms of pvp this is fun. Everything is balanced but gets boring fast. I’d rather play CoD.
Crafting – You could farm the kitten out of the world to craft some crappy looking gear if you want. Or spend fking ages grinding to get a legendary. Your choice.
Anet is trying to improve the end game content. And will be adding things over time.
As I said before, it’s a new game. There will be a lot of new content coming this year.
If by end-game content you mean things to do after reaching level 80 that would be absolutely everything you haven’t already done, or feel like doing again.
Any zone you haven’t fully explored, or would like to play through again is still viable content thanks to down-levelling. Chances are there are at least a few events in each zone you haven’t seen before.
Along with things like WvW, sPvP, dungeons, buying/crafting legendaries, getting full ascended gear, doing guild missions, whatever content is added each month and probably other stuff I’ve forgotten.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
the same youve been doing from start-game
After hitting 80 I’ve mostly just done the rest of the game. The scaling isn’t perfect, as I still feel way too powerful, but it’s still interesting. With all the new content coming on a monthly basis I’m happy there’s no true “end game”. Also, alts.
There really isn’t much end-game, but there is surely enough grind to keep you busy for a long time.
Legendary – takes forever and tons of grind for mats
Ascended – again tons of grind of the same dungeon and dailies for laurels
Other than that, don’t bother looking for raids or anything of the like. I think ANet is so bent on being ‘unique’ (which is already out the window imo) that they refuse to add anything like raids, true pve progression content and just replace it with more grind.
Here’s to hoping this will change… I need a challenge other than vertical ‘progression’
You’re going to get two different answers from the forums.
1. The entire game is endgame, do the whole thing over and over via alts, find a guild to make it bearable, WvWvW, pvp
2. There is no endgame, game is built around casuals, there is no significant progression either on your toon or through content.
My answer is: You bought a game for 60 dollars or less (unless you bought the CE for some odd reason), the game has about 1000 hours or more of quality play time, do what you like to do, and when you come to the point when you feel bored….walk away and wait for content updates. Check back every month, they usually add something (even if it’s only an hour long). The game doesn’t rely on subs, so there will probably never be an endgame like other mmo’s. There’s fun to be had, bosses to kill, places to explore, and lore to unearth (to an extent, I assume they expected everyone to have played the original first).

I think its very, very unfair to say GW2 has no endgame, there is plenty now…
1) WvW.
2) Guild missions.
3) A lot of dungeons with 1 story + 3 exp paths.
4) Fractals.
5) PvP.
6) 3 Orr zones.
7) Frostgorge Sound.
8) Southsun Cove.
9) Leaderboard positions.
10) Armour/weapon skins.
11) Achievement points.
12) The ‘hard’ difficulty jumping puzzles.
13) Get 1 or more legendary skins.
14) 100% map completion.
15) Become a member of all 3 orders.
16) Complete personal story.
17) Ascended gear.
Plus every month they add new content, for free…
GW2 can’t be accused of having nothing to do at endgame its just blatently unfair…
If you burn through all that, then NO GAME from any development company is going to satisfy you…you will just after play 2-3 different ones and move between them…

For now there’s nothing else but wvw. Unless to you grinding mats/money for hundred of hours is fun (for a legendary) the only thing that can keep you playing for hundreds of hours is wvw.

You are playing the wrong game.
Since the vertical progression horse is really dead I will beat on raids instead. Each and every raid I played so far was basically a waste of time for the majority of the raiding players cause they are kitten to repeat brainless tasks over and over again. Yes, raiding is somehow challenging, but mostly for 3-5 players per raid which have to organize it and/or were assigned an important or carrying role, typically main tanks, main tank healers, cc coordinators and the raid announcer who tells the raid what to do next. Besides that every member of the raid could easily be replaced by a simple heal, damage or buff bot.
Yes, there are some exceptions to that, some fights really are a challenge for the whole raid, but sadly those encounters are quite rare and even if you found one it probably will be nerfed soon cause it just seems to be too hard for the braindead masses.
So yes, GW2 has no raids but it has 5 man dungeons were you can be a brainless damage bot too.
Occam Pi (Ele), Acaena Elongata (Warrior), Finja Salversdotir (Ranger),
Bytestream (Engineer), Vim Whitespace (Thief)

kittening legend. Everything you said is true. They have this extreme problem with trying to be unique that their game is lacking and people are quitting everyday.

And people are buying the game every day. And some of those people stay. There are still plenty of people here that played the game at launch and still enjoy it. There are plenty of other people who took a break and returned.
And yes, some people are leaving. Like every other MMO.
Both my sons played WoW for years and every time they didn’t like something they were leaving, But they always went back… for years.
People leaving isn’t really a problem in a buy to play MMO. There are plenty of people playing and enjoying the game.
In fact, if the right group of people leave, it makes it a lot better for those of us who are enjoying it. Sort of how it should be. People go through games until they find one they like.
Pretty cool if you ask me.
I like to eat at McDonald’s, but not every day. Do you think the manager and staff there sit around trying to figure out how to make me eat every meal there? No, there are plenty of people who come and go and it’s always busy even if it’s not the same people every day. This game is the same way, the devs don’t have a kitten if someone stops playing for a while. It was designed so that it’s easier to leave and come back than in other MMOs.

Yeh uhmm, Don’t compare a game to mcdonalds. It’s massively different in every way possible.
