Yesterday i tried playing on Edge of the Mists because i always shied away from pvp. If only you all could feel how surprised i was when i realized it was a giant zerg moving around the map, killing champions and veterans for loot and capturing land.

That was fun, i like how it has a nice pve feel to it. But, today when i thought about playing gw2, i didnt really find a reason why i should keep playing. The pvp zerg was nice, and i really do like going around and killing world bosses when they spawn as well, but it feels like i contribute nothing.

I can go around and participate with the giant group to kill and claim loot, and experience if the character is a low level, but there is not indicator to see if i even did much. I can get credit for doing the events and such, but all i have to do is just auto attack and alt tab.

So now I dont know what to do because i would like to feel like i want to play gw2, but my presence feels so absent throughout the game when i do the big events. If gw2 end content is really big on world bosses and pvp zergs, then what exactly is the point of me trying to get better gear if i just need to ‘participate’ by auto attacking? Why should i strive to be stronger if i don’t need to?

I seek some advice here on the forums. Is there something i am missing? A whole part of the game i do not know off that can make me feel excited about the game again? What is it that you all do to have fun here?

What exactly is the end game content, and how do all you find it fun? Because farming for gear when it’s acquisition won’t be noticeable in these large end game events really makes me think twice about finding gw2 exciting

There is none. The only thing that can be seen as “end game” is cosmetic collecting and achievements.

End game content in GW2 is FASHION wars, make you char beautiful, and do collections.

Understand you can do any content you like ,ANY…

If you want to roam caledon forest with your staff ele do so. When you are lvl 80 you unlocked the whole game. when you did 8 story dungeons you unlocked all dungeons.
whne you are lvl 230 in wvw you unlocked the basics in wvw. and even when you are a bunny you are good to go in pvp….

You can do anything you want. which is the definition of the game, you unlocked all: classic end game doesn’t exist, all areas are endgame. if you want to do events go SW or Dry Top, or Orr, Or Frostgorge or -anywhere- else. Do world bosses, enjoy crafting or flipping. Anything you want. you’ll be scaled accordingly.

leaving you with everything and maybe the wish to make some ascendeds or legendaries. And continue the fashion wars,

I could say, make an alt or make a few or 10 and try something different, do the world condi based, explore builds… problem is at this moment, things are about to change big time. according to devs we need to restart is the buzz on the forum…

23 lvl 80’s, 9 times map, 4ele, 4ncr, 3war, 3grd, 3rgr, 2thf, 2msm, 1eng, 1 rev.
Been There, Done That & Will do it again…except maybe world completion.

I can recommend 2 things:

- Try Fractals of the Mists, and see how far you can rack up your FotM levels (max is 50 atm). Those get progressively harder to test your abilities.

- Try regular WvW. What you described of EotM is pretty accurate, a giant blob running around killing NPCs, occasionally an 50 v 5 fight. Regular WvW is more about PvP, and the toughest challenge you can get is always an enemy player

Endgame in this game is what you make of it. Sounds stupid at first, but when you think about it it opens up a variety of things to do.

Looking at my friends and guildies, I see a ton of different “end games”, all in one game.

Some are into dungeons. They spend their time getting to know each dungeon path inside-out, what traits and utilities benefit which encounter, and how to get the most out of their characters and parties. They like to learn how to duo or even solo the bosses and encounters, how to skip past specific mobs in different ways, and how to best counter boss mob mechanics.

Others are into open world PvE. They like to map-complete with multiple alts, do world bosses, farm crafting materials and generally get the know every last bit of the maps and where to find whatever resource they are after.

Some like WvW the most, and spend most of their time on the borderlands and the eternal battlegrounds, either in small groups or guild zergs. They learn how to best trait and skill their classes for the situation at hand, which, depending on the kind (and size) of group and your goal, can be quite diverse. They progress their wvw experience bar and rank to gain wvw abilities that have a serious impact on their play in that game mode.

I have friends that almost exclusively pvp, because they enjoy that game mode the most, and/or would like to have access to a specific rank finisher (phoenix for rank 70+ seems to be sought-after the most right now ).

Others spend most of their time in the silverwastes to unlock the full set of luminescent armor skins on their account.

There’s roleplayers, trading post specialists, story lovers that spend their time leveling multiple alts to experience the personal (and living) story from different angles, compulsive collectors, fractal frequenters, and last but not least the jack-of-all-trades that enjoy dabbling in all of these fields depending on mood.

The one thing you will not widely find though is people focused exclusively on gear aquisition, as that is just not a big thing in this game. You have to find the part of the game that is fun to you because you like to play it, not because it gives you better gear. If you are a meticulous crafter, this may result in you focussing on crafting ascended gear, but for most people, ascended is more of a by-product of playing the content they like, just like a legendary is something that you (ideally) build resources for over a long time, instead of force-farming the resources in one go.

Check out more of the game than just zerg event trains, and find the spot that appeals to you because you enjoy playing it. Rewards will come in by themselves, but focussing exclusively on them instead of enjoyable gameplay is (unfortunately) a pretty good way to burn out on this game quickly, as that isn’t how most (if not all) content is built.

To me, reaching lvl 80 is End Game, I’ll do what I always do when reaching ‘max level’, shelve the toon and go do something else.

Cosmetics is a girly thing. ;-)

So there is no definitive end game. Once a character reaches level 80, there is no clear sign saying what i should be working for.

Sounds rather boring, but at the same time, from what everyone has posted, rather liberating. I don’t have to farm for gear. I don’t have to play pvp or do dungeons. I do not have to do the traditional MMORPG play route.

What everyone has explained is that the game focuses on the fun of cosmetics, so the bar of expectations in how well i can optimize dps is rather low. Different route for a MMORPG, but not having to be confined into particular goal is a nice break.

Now it is all up to myself to find something to do.

I would suggest you to try to get as many achievement points as possible. This should be what matter because it eventually leads you to do all the possible content. You get boosts on your magic find, gold income, XP-gain, karma-gain, special skins, titles. Also your guild members and friends can be jelly for your achievement points and this is how to lose fat for noobs and shine on the game.

Even tho – they should make achievement points even more important, something that shines next to your character name, like a amazing glow around it if you have over 20,000 points and so on…

You are free to optimize dps in this game, too, but again gear is only a part of the whole picture. Optimizing also includes knowing the encounter mechanics, when to evade, interrupt, chain specific skills and so on. Knowledge of boss attacks, their animations and cooldowns is at least as important as your equipment, and a trait build with slightly lower max dps, well-played in a group it is optimized for, may end up with higher group dps than traiting/skilling for personal dps only .

But yes, it all comes down to you deciding what you want, whether you want to learn how to do the “perfect” dungeon run, want to hunt cool cosmetics, or just want to relax in a fantasy world with like-minded people.

there is no clear sign saying what i should be working for.

Reach Fractal lvl50.
Make a Legendary weapon.
Reach top 100 in PvP leaderboards.
Get Dungeon Master title.
Get a speedrun record with your name on it.
Get Ultimate Dominator title from WvW.
Get every class to lvl80.

There’s your endgame.

There’s two main types of endgame goals – cosmetic progression and a grind for ascended. Legendary weapons are the one area of overlap between the two.

Cosmetics by far make up the bulk of endgame content. This includes hairstyles and faces, armour and weapon skins as well as titles. If you don’t enjoy this kind of thing, you’re going to have a bad time. Ascended gear is the more traditional sort of endgame grind, but it’s optional. Loads and loads of time and effort for a negligible stat increase. Only absolutely necessary for fractals.

And of course there’s a variety of activities to take part in while pursuing these goals:

- Dungeons, fractals, guild missions and open world farming in PvE.
- sPvP and WvW for the more competitive types.

It’s unfortunate that we’ve had so much effort go into producing temporary or once-and-done type story content rather than more traditional endgame stuff with greater replay value.

This game has alot of end game.

But the difficulty of most of it (especially open world on pre-80 maps) is horrible.

Compare something like Bloodtide Coast to Silverwastes and you will be in for a shocking and disappointing suprise. The game tries to make all content available to newbies, and by extension forces the end game to be nearly skilless.

Its the same difference between dungeons (except Arah) and fractals…

If all content in the game was designed to have some kind of elite or hard mode, the end game would be alot more exciting , and players would not be shoehorned into certain types of content (despite being told they can do anything) if they are seeking any kind of challenge and to not get bored with the game.

But at the moment, its mostly limited to cosmetics, farming and PvP.

Like others said, the end game is was you want it to be. In my guild different people have different goal and they evolve and change over time.

- Some are into dungeon. Some just like to run them, other like to run them for the gold, other like to speed run throught them setting up a group and improve themselves, other like to solo them for the challenge.
- Other are in fractal. You can just want to reach level 50 or find some specific fractal weapons. Some just like to run it everyday, other want to speed run it to the max.
- Plenty of people go after achievement. They want to be on top of the achievement board, or just have a good amount of AP, or just be higher than their friend.
- Some are completionnist. They want to fill their wardrobe or their mini collection, etc.
- Some like to level up different character up, like a lot of characters.
- Some go after cosmetic for 1 or more character with legendary, expensive exotics, etc, etc.
- Some prefer WvW casually, or maybe they want to become a commander, or just help their servers as much as they can, or maybe they want to get into a zerg bursting guild.
- Same with sPvP. You may like to pvp like any other multiplayer game, or you want to make or get into a PvP team.

Lol sexism. //rolls eyes

Also some people enjoy crafting and/or helping guildmates out who are still working their way up. Being 80 means you can jump around to any area you want or needed by your friends. Or join fractals/Silverwastes/Dungeons and make new friends.

“Endgame” in games usually refers to things players can do after they’ve completed their level progression or the story. Extra things harder than the rest that you can tackle when you are properly geared and experienced.

Some games have things like “NewGame+”, others have additional challenges like ultra powerful bosses, elite areas or dungeons.

GW2 doesn’t need “End Game” because there’s no content that becomes trivial when you level up or finish story.

There’s nothing to do “after the game” because you can do everything else after you reach level 80 or finish a story without that content being trivial to your level.

So you can say any of this:

  • GW2 has no ‘endgame’.
  • All of GW2 is ‘endgame’.

And both will be true in some way. Not everyone sees the same things as “endgame”.

With the upcoming update before HoT and after it, there will also be Masteries and Adventures. So there will be something more to do, things that more people will see as ‘endgame’.

OP keep in mind, while it’s not true in EotM so much, in WvW some people follow the zerg and some people go out in small havoc groups to help their side.

Havoc groups present a completely different and more challenging experience than running around with a zerg. It’s certainly my preference most of the time.

This game has a lot of things you can do that make the game harder and therefore more challenging. There are people for example who solo dungeons and that’s their end game.

Running with a zerg is a choice. Running around solo or with a small group is end game to me.

The huge zergs that go wander a map and mass slaughter NPCs and world bosses…
- Really have no point.

Some people do them for fun, and that is fine.

Many others get lured in thinking they need to ‘grind this content for the raid’… and then wonder where the raid is…

“Endgame” is a non-concept in GW2.

Either you can find something about the world, story, PvP, dungeons, fractals, roleplay, etc that you enjoy… or its not the MMO for you.

If you’re running some content and starting to wonder why… Starting to wonder what all of this ‘getting ready and gearing up’ is fore…
- you’ve locked onto something you think is endgame, and you better get out of it before it drains your fun out of the game.
