Hey Ladies & Gentlemen,

I thought I would come here and ask you beautiful people as to your opinions as to which ranged profession, I should make next. I’m currently on a Ranger and I’m not really a melee person.

So my options are Elementalist/Mesmer & Necromancer. So what would you suggest and why?

I look forward to reading your replies

Probably Elementalist, it has high damage and utility, and is popular in every game mode.

Staff guardian is great range profession. You know, gandalf style. And ppl will love you because there’s no way to success without good support and healer on your back.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will have a look over some builds for the Elementalist to see which are great to leveling up to 80 quickly (aside from powerleveling up some more crafting professions).

Our staff guardian mows down those blooms in TA like butter. It’s great to have him on our side.

OP, out of the three, I like Necro best with Mesmer pulling a close second, but I use her primarily for portal and feedback and that’s, well… basically it. I’ve just started leveling an elementalist and enjoy it as well, but haven’t really played her enough to make a solid decision on that.

I main Ranger and find it hard to pull away from playing him.

Engie! Rifle, Elixir Gun, Grenades, Flamethrower, Turrets, thrown spanners if you’re into that, and if you make it a Charr you also get a Hidden Pistol, a Charzooka or an Artillery Barrage (range 450, lol).

Add in the mines, bombs, NV goggles and stealth, and the Engie is basically just one sniper rifle away from the Commando class.

Elementalist or Engineer. Engineer can be pretty easy to use – if you like kits, even better, but going with a rifle and choosing your utilities based on the toolbelt skill it gives you can be fun as well. Elementalist with staff is a powerhouse in fire damage and the other utilities are wonderfully supportive – the rotation is basically just spam.

Those, along with ranger, are my favorite classes and I’m a big ranged person as well. (that is, I enjoy ranged a lot – not that I enjoy ranged and I’m big)

Engi can be very versatile. Piano skills are quite useful with it.

Elementalist are best in melee ranged. You can do okay mid-range with fiery greatsword, but if you just wanted to sit in the back and chuck fireballs from max range all day, it tends to only work on large, stationary targets.

Generally speaking if you want to stay as far away as possible, you are just going to have to accept that your DPS isn’t going to compare with melee range.
