Guild Wars 2

I’m a new player and I have no idea what server to pick. Is it fine to pick servers like Jade qarry, blackgate, tc, Sos. Im thinking it doesn’t matter because of the mega server system. Any recommendations would be good.

Look for an enjoyable Guild and people to play with. Server does not matter aside from WvW. If you want to ride the current WvW to get a free Ascended Weapon (cost of 300 Season 2 WvW Reward Tickets)

I suggest you take a look at the following 4 servers. (To maximize your WvW bonus rewards.)

1. Jade Quarry (Tier 1 server -> will win 450/500 Season 2 Tickets)
2. Tarnished Coast (Tier 1 server -> will win 450/500 Season 2 Tickets)
3. Henge of Denravi (Tier 3 server -> will win 500 Season 2 Tickets)
4. Gate of Madness (Tier 6 server -> will win 500 Season 2 Tickets)

These four servers at this point are guaranteed to win either 450/500 Season 2 tickets.

If you are not interested in the WvW Rewards or care about Ascended Weapons, there are plenty of other very nice servers.

• This advice simply given due to the ability to redeem a free Ascended Weapon (account bound/40-50+ gold cost) from the Season 2 WvW Tournament.

• Sea of Sorrows is an amazing server. (But dominating T2 way too much due to difference in T2 servers now.)
• Blackgate has a skewed reputation (the other T1 servers hate them, because they consistantly stand on top of T1. By any means necessary.)
• Tarnished Coast was the main RP server for NA GW2 before the changes of the 4/15 patch. (Very nice place to guest/visit.)
• Jade Quarry has the same skewed reputation as Blackgate. (They like Blackgate would likely do almost anything to remain on top of T1.)

I responded the way I did because you should know what you are in for should you go into T1/top of T2. All of these servers have skewed reputations, because of their Top 4 ranking in WvW. Some people will adore you despite what server you come from, some people will hate you just because you are from there.

• It is an odd predicament. But something you should be ready for and not go into blind folded.

If you PvE all of these servers have great communities. It is the WvW side of them that gets skewed. (Due to the bitterness/imbalance and general competitive like nature of WvW.)

Nope, tourney ranks subject to change anytime.

There’s a lot of politics involved in WvW in t1 servers. Lower tiers have much less, so if the constant map politics will bother you, stay away from t1 and head to t2. That said, pretty sure all the servers you mentioned have at least a few friendly guilds regardless of tier.

It’s a little more difficult to figure out if you’ll like a community now that every server’s mixed together in cities. Personally, I would look at the guild recruitment forum first and see if there are any guilds you think might be a good fit for you on any of the servers you’re interested in. There’s no use in going to a high-ranked server if you won’t find anyone you actually like playing or socializing with.

Keep in mind that there are very high queues on reset nights and smaller ones on other nights during NA prime on t1 servers. Some people wait an hour or two on a reset night to get into a WvW map, if you’re not lucky enough to spam-F the portals fast enough. Just so you know what you’re getting into if you do choose JQ/BG/TC.
