I am completely in love with the achievement progression system mentioned in Colin’s blog today. The path the achievement system is going in sounds really rewarding, it will really help bring life into the game.

However, when I finished reading the blog, I couldn’t help but feel disappointed that there was no mention made of any new karma rewards. This issue has been brought up on the forums and there’s a definite lack of meaningful items to buy with one’s accumulating karma.

When will karma receive some much needed love?

I would really like to hear a response on this. At present karma feels a bit lacking and underused.

I have a feeling this is going to be tied into the system they are working on for other ways of getting legendary items, they want to push us back into the zones so events that lead up to karma NPC’s that will offer parts to make them sound about right, this will lead into a huge karma dump and also force players back into the world in all the zones, also helping new players coming in, and opening up the “Play as you like” system where you can work on it when you want, and even if you are not you are building karma to get one at some point.

Just my 2cents.

This I really wont mind. Karma has a lot of possibilities and due to the fact that you can get it just about anywhere doing just about anything, it really is the all round resource, and I hope ANet adds more options to it.

I don’t know, but for me, karma is never enough.

Maybe because I spend them all the time instead of … eh … gold?

harvest tool can be bought with karma
exotic armor can be bought with karma
rare weapon can be bought with karma
legendary requires ALOT of karma

there are way more situation that you need karma for

You didn’t use it doesn’t mean others doesn’t.

You just didn’t see the value in it, that’s all.

Just like myself, I know some crafting really make money, but I never got into that, because I feel that’s useless to me.

It’s the same idea.

I’m glad I’m not the only one that’s found Karma underwhelming so far. I have been saving jugs of Karma waiting for some reason to use them, and so far not a whole of reason to want to cache them in. I like the Karma system, it just needs more variety of rewards available, even if they’re purely cosmetic.

karma is very useful as chaster has pointed out. you can buy many 1 of a kind 1-use items that enhance(some say are necessary) for certain parts of pve/dungeons.

other every day use items such as harvesting tools, unique skins and if you are swimming in karma, exotics to throw into the mf for sellable exos.

what i see too often, is the underlying concept that everything in this game must contribute to making gold. excuse me if i’m wrong, but i really don’t think i am. karma has limited uses outside of cooking that generate coin and this is where the complaint about karma being useless stems from. it is far from useless. what it does is prevent you from having to spend those 4s for harvesting tools. or prevent you from dying in the dredge fractal and incurring repair costs(spy kits)

@Chaster Sharpshooter and kiba
Alright, I’m not calling karma items useless at all, you seem a bit outraged by what I said. After reviewing what I said, I feel I’ve misspoken, so let me try again.

I was hoping that there would be word on more meaningful variety injected into the karma system. I’ve taken into account the exotic armor set, the cultural and Seraph rare weapons, the gathering tools and the consumables, and I know you need obsidian shards to craft.

The reason I felt Karma is being left out is that there is this entire resource that you can get all over the game, it’s almost a core part of gameplay, and yet there is no mention of more options being added to it.

Instead of exotic items having one skin, why not add more, perhaps have each temple display a unique skin. And on top of that allow us to buy sigils and runes.
Design weapons and armor for the different regions, i.e. Ascalonian, Krytan, etc. and let us buy them with karma. While Orr merchants sell rare (or exotic) Orrian weapons.
Let karma vendors sell some food consumables that you can’t get anywhere else, like a consumable that has a chance to cast a random boon on you whenever you attack, or another that inflicts a condition on a foe whenever you take damage, or one that heals you when your health is low. How about selling gathering tools that have 200 uses.

I didn’t intend to say that karma is useless and there needs to be something added to give your karma meaning. What I am saying, however, is that there is always room for more variety, and I’m pretty sure neither of you are against the idea of having more options.

Here is the problem:

First I was like: Yeah, I will accumulate all that Karma and buy the most epic gear you can get.
Ascended gear arrived: Oh I will better save all that Karma till I can buy the best gear for it. I do not want to waste it on exotics that will be subpar sooner or not too much later.

Do I know if I will ever be able to buy ascended gear with Karma? No.
But the “maybe” is enough to keep me saving it up…

i wasn’t mad in the least. i was trying to give alternative uses for karma that help you keep more gold in your pocket. if that’s your prerogative, then i hope it helped. if gold is not your issue, then you can ignore what i said.

however, i will add that karma is basically a currency you do NOT have to earn if you’re not working towards a legendary. why? if you see no use for it and it doesn’t take up any inventory space, why be mad? it’s just a purple number on your ‘i’ menu. karma is basically free currency imo. you do some stuff in the open world that happens to PAY you in exp, some coin and some karma. i have a much bigger problem with the 3k fractal relics and dungeon tokens in my bank in comparison to karma, which again does not take up any space and is awarded in abundant amounts to the point where it’s practically free.
