What are the chances of Cantha in GW2?
You know, to be honest I used to hate Factions in GW1.
I bought it just to get new skills etc, but ultimately I found it wasn’t as bad as I thought (though I still prefer Proph/Nightfall by far).
But I would really, really like more to have the Crystal Desert/Ring of Fire/Maguuma before.
The main continent is just… the core of the game for me, I want that before anything.
Plus I want dorfs back. Anet please.
I’m sure Cantha will definitely appear in future expansions. I’d guess probably not the first though, maybe more around the third.

Not sure about 1st expansion but I’m sure it’ll be in eventually.
It’d be a bit silly for them to go through all the effort of creating Winds of Change to establish the lore behind what happened to Cantha and then never add it to the game.

Good point. I really hope you’re right. From a cost perspective though, continuing Cantha 200 years later would be cheaper and less time consuming for ANET than creating a whole new idea/place.

They need to make new never seen areas. The actual size of the world is massive.
They have a lot to work with and I hope to see more of the rest of the world.
Cantha would be nice but personally imo…there is a whole lot more they can do first.
On the pic you see the zones that have already been done for GW1 and 2….there is so much more..
Heck even the Southern Part of where Cantha is located could be cool?
Cantha won’t be an expansion until they solve a small problem.
They said no, completely no. Didn’t NCSoft like forbid them?

Yep. 0% chance of seeing Cantha in GW2, unfortunately.
Game direction continues to baffle me more and more with every dev post.

Wow read this… was looking for the late/early April fools!!!….never saw it >.>
GOtta love another certain company being in charged changing this games direction and everything about it…
I’d much prefer Cantha over Elona, Nightfall helped me quit GW1..

That is one big map! Seriously, I didn’t know the map of GW2 is small compared to the actual world size! Awesome!

Haha. I am going to feel sorry for future explorers!
Oh wait…we’ll be affected too…
I’d not so quickly say Cantha is out of the question because of a vague rumour supplied by a supposed anonymous artist, of all things.

It isn’t a vague rumour. Arenanet employees have commented quite a few times in that post confirming it. The REASON it happened is a rumour, but the point is it did happen and as of right now is valid. Hopefully when Anet brings up the idea/possibility of Cantha again whatever stopped it before no longer matters.
If you have Pandas in a game it upsets people and will never see the light of day…
Oh…
Wasn’t a comment on a Youtube vid, made by someone claiming to be an ANet employee the basis for the other thread?
It may just be that your original statement was wrong.
Please try again.

Really? Ohhh… That particular thread was TLDR… I kind of just read the last posts of people saying it was a rumor and they didn’t believe it, but I didn’t realize ANet had actually said something in the thread confirming it.
Almost 100% Cantha will come in the future. The whole Winds of Change arc lead up to the GW2 setting.

I’d say the chances are slim in the short to medium term, but maybe one day.
There is room on the world map for two or three times the zones we have already, and there are the other dragons to face. My guess would be that we will face Jormag, Primordus, Kralkatorak and Bubbles over the next 2-3 years, and see bouts of map expansion with new zones as we face each Elder Dragon. Whether these will coincide with paid expansions (likely IMO) or as development of the Living Story, I’m not sure.
The point is, there seems to be a lot of room on the current map, and quite a lot of story to go with the Dragons before we are likely to see serious work done on Cantha.
Maybe in a few years time, when looking for new plot ideas, decisions about Cantha will be revisited. I doubt we’ll see that until the game is 4-5 years old though.
I loved Factions, and would love to see Cantha again sooner than this, but sadly I can’t see it happening any time soon.
The Path Least Travelled, Gunnar’s Hold
There is also the little issue of the Canthan regime being totally xenophobic. How would we go about sending the Sylvari, the Asura, the Charr and the Norn (along with the Tengu) to Cantha and not expect something horrid?
Balthazar runes are broken.

Well yes and know. Almost all of the dragons are on continental Tyria. We’ve dealt with Zhaitan. Jormag is up in the Shiverpeaks, Primordius is underground (I think it was mentioned below the Fire Island Chain?) and Kralkatorikk is in the Crystal Desert/Northern Elona. All of which were places accessible in Prophecies (with the exception of the far shiverpeaks). (ignoring DSD and 6th)
I agree that Cantha is probably a while off, but they’re unlikely to focus all expansions/content releases on the Elder Dragons because people would get very sick of that very quickly.
I’m inclined to believe they’ll open up Elona before we fight too many more dragons.

Oh, I forgot about that map.. If that’s the case, the fact that tyria is connected to elona and cantha, maybe they will eventually open up everything in that map. I wouldn’t mind elona being released too.
