What are your favourite Story Segments?
I love all of the small comical moments during the story quests. Had some hilarious ones that I remeber.
-The asura mesmer girl you have with you in Orr, the sidekick to that other “older” asura. He keeps telling her to stay quiet and she keeps making these gigantic very lowd clones that sound like a boxing match promoter.
-The two charrs from different legions bickering outside the Mouths holdout, although agreeing in the end that they are both quite awesome.
Other than that I really enjoyed the part where you pilot the Golem suit and deathray risen to death. Taking part of quarky asuran experiments while playing through the story as asura was also hilarious. I kept thinking “what can possibly happen next? Heh beats me, its asuras we are talking about”.
The whole mansion where you fight the Mouth in the end is actually quite good, it has that morbid feel to it. Could use some bowls, pans and such with human body parts being cooked/served.
All in all I’ve enjoyed the story on 5 80s so far, only part I really hate is the last part, where you face Zaithan, it’s really an anti-climax when it should be the climax of it all. Hes just too weak.
Pretty much everything from level 1 up till 50. The moment you reach Claw Island, it all falls apart. Not just because of Trahearne (Although partially), but it seems the quests before that were inventive and stood out from one another, whereas after that it’s just about smacking risen and then smacking some more identical risen.
I think my favourite step is the Infinity Ball line.
I really loved the Battle of Claw Island.
For one thing, the way it was presented! Orrians invading Lions Arch and the only way to halt them for a bit is through Claw Island. In other words, the way this part of the story is presented is just amazing!
Another thing is that I cried at this part (Which is just awesome in my opinion, first time I felt like that in an MMO story!). Reason why is because my favorite mentor died (Sierran to be specific. Rest in Peace mate).
Another thing is that there is an epic scale of fighting in this part of the story. Boats, bombs, undead armies, mortal armies, huge battles, catapults, dark skies and a freaking dragon!! In other words, it’s just plain awesome!
One last thing to add is that the title “Battle of Claw Island” is just awesome! It sounds catchy, memorable and in my opinion, groundbreaking in naming standards.
In conclusion, The Battle of Claw island is one of my favorite parts of the personal story and I’d just like to thank Anet for making an awesome storyline for an MMO!
I love all the story segments prior to “Traherne-land.” Once I choose my order, the story begins to feel very boring and stale to me. The story feels less about my character and her life and more about following Traherne around and listening to his monologuing. I love the storylines based on race and choices made in character creation. These are definitely my favorite. The charr characters in the stories are often hilarious and there are some really funny norn and asura story arcs, too. By level 30, it’s less about enjoying the story and more about “just get through it and get done” while making jokes about Traherne with my guildies. lol
Anything with Tybalt in it.
Resident Thief
Tybalt is so great! He’s my fave order partner, for sure. I’d rather Traherne had died heroically at Claw Island than Tybalt.
The charr questline for those who selected Ash Legions was my personal favorite. Claw Island is a close runner-up, and so is the finale in the Orr questline where you -
!!!slight spoilers below!!!
hijack an Orrian ship. The actual quest isn’t that memorable (not to mention that I was bashing my head against the wall due to the unnecessary romance that was shoe-horned into it), but what happened at the end shocked me (in a good way).
I love the Order Missions personally- I have multiple characters on all the Orders and I really really wish we could have more of that.
Before 30 the racial choices are all really cool and I enjoyed them and found them interesting- after Claw Island ( an awesome mission in and of itself) it falls apart for me- Trehearne and the fact that I still have not completed my story because it is hidden in a dungeon
The part where Trahearne dies a gruesome, grizzly death*
I know…I know. It doesn’t happen but…
*I dream of this happening. Every. Waking. Moment.
I didn’t find a single story episode to be interesting or add anything to my character. I have stopped doing them, they are as personal as a “Boxholder” letter in my mailbox.
I guess finding my presumed dead sister and having her promptly drop off the face of Tyria is a prime example.

I liked every quest without Trahearne’s voice acting in it. Also, not having Trahearne’s voice acting in a quest makes it SUPER AWESOME even though it’s really just a bland story overall. I think it’s a planned decision by the developer. CONSPIRACY!
This story lacks everything that made Gw1 story great. Everything, I mean when Rurik dies everyone who played was like NO NO RURIK!! And then when you fight him as a ghost you just feel so sorry for him. This game I wished every character would just combust on the spot.
Would make for an interesting you think?

Rurik. “Ah, my good and excellent friends”. I really liked him.
Everything up till Traehearne.

It’s my opinion as well. I prefer the early story stuff since it is about you. Once it all converges I feel like a bit player and the story isn’t about me anymore.
I enjoy the beginning part (1-30) and the part where you work with orders(30-50). Before claw island I really enjoyed my perosnal story, but shortly after that it just gets like “Ok, enough with your story, now follow traeherne to Orr.”
In the Berserk anime, Guts leaves Griffith halfway through to follow his own story.
Too bad you can’t ditch Trahearne.
Then again leafboy may go psycho kitten insane demon kitten if you do. So I guess you have to put up with his story for the good of Tyria.

No, everyone was not “NO! NO Rurik!” A lot of folks went: “Pfft, finally I get to stop carrying his Prince Leroy crap.” There were people who laughed a lot when you got to the final mission right before the Lich and got to slap around his undead form.
Then there’s Kormir, and let’s not delve into what people think of her.
Really, GW1’s story had just as much that people really hated as GW2 and in a lot of the same ways.
As for my favorite segments?
- Unexpected Visitors
- Fall of Falcon Company
- Chain of Command
In order of enjoyment That top one is just completely, plainly fun.
Everything 1-20 before the orders.
I loved all of the Asura story lines. Infinity Ball was my favorite, with the VAL-A Golem being a close second. In general, what I like most isn’t the actual story itself, but comments and interactions characters have on the side. The children playing at the start of A Fragile Peace (level 30) are a good example. “I’m Logan, and I’m going to run away!” gets me every single time

@SneakyErwin, “Other than that I really enjoyed the part where you pilot the Golem suit and deathray risen to death.”
Haha yea that’s the one I’m referring to “Air Drop”. I just wish that my Asura Engi had that suit as his Elite skill lol.
Tybalt.
Other then that, the story was pretty much crap, especially Trahearne’s personal story, starting at level 50. There was little to no character development, in fact there was not one memorable character actually, the “choices” we were presented with obviously only served to branch and reconnect the story bits, which were far too obvious. All those “friends” I was suddenly supposed to care about meant absolutely nothing to me, all in all there were stupid beginner’s mistakes all over the place.
The lore of the game itself was quite good actually, but the bad acting and generally uninspired storyline was a chore to follow after the first round, and all my twinks never got past ~35 maybe.
People fond of Rurik probably didn’t play the Ascalon missions with him in Beta, where he would run ahead into massive groups of mobs, and you were supposed to be keeping him alive.
Therefore I may take some time replying to you.
playing Sylvari order mission, the very last one where it would choose what order you joined than picking whispers idea, never been so high ever
The Charr mission that made me fight Ghost Cows.

Nolani Academy, Hard Mode.
Yeah I don’t like Rurik all that much.
Blast from the Past. If you played GW: Prophecies, you’ll know exactly what moment struck a cord with me during that quest. I was surprised that the thing even worked and that someone knew how to activate it!
Tybalt as Beetlestone, I get a chuckle out of that every time.
-The asura mesmer girl you have with you in Orr, the sidekick to that other “older” asura. He keeps telling her to stay quiet and she keeps making these gigantic very lowd clones that sound like a boxing match promoter.
.
I really want to know what Character options you picked to get her. I got Shrieksy the Raptor.

Elli! she’s adorable!
Thanks guys for all your comments, but I must admit, I’m surprised how some people love one particular story part, while others hate that very same part. In particular The Battle for Claw Island. I know this is a small sample but it shows clearly how difficult it would be for any devs to please all their players.
The other thing that amazes me is how many people hate Traehearne. I’ve seen other threads dedicated to ‘Traehearne hate’ but personally, I don’t actually mind him at all. I’ve done all the stories with 8 characters and I think I’ve probably covered every path at least those of the later lvls. Seriously, though parts of his role could have been executed better, I don’t see why people hate him so. After all, he’s just an NPC, featured in the story line, but nvm, I don’t want this thread to become about him. There are others out there about this issue as mentioned above, so lets try to keep this one to the point and constructive please.
Cheers!
No real high points for me. It all flattened out when people started dying one after another when the personal story starts spilling out in Orr.
Then Zhaitan in all his glory chooses instead to give the enemy a speed bump.
Climax. burps
