What causes Waypoiys to be contested.
Nobody knows. Story n stuff. Contested for one year now?
Fight the queens
i think that waypoint was one of the few that were destroyed when the elder dragon mordremoth awoke. several places were attacked and some waypoints were destroyed and arent usable (the floating waypoint thingy isnt in the air/no beam of light).
other waypoints that were destroyed are the fort marriner waypoint in lions arch and the thistlereed waypoint in… timberline? theres also a couple others.
who knows if the asura will ever get around to rebuilding them
It’s usually because there’s an event going on nearby. (It stops people who are killed resurrecting right in the middle of the event and stops people coming from other maps on a slow connection landing in enemy territory and being killed before the game has fully loaded.)
During Season 2 of the Living Story some waypoints were destroyed by Mordremoth and now show as permanently contested. If you go there you can see they’re actually gone – all that’s left is a few flickering pieces on the ground.
These may or may not be rebuilt at some point. There was a lot of debate while it was going on with some people even speculating that they were building up to removing waypoints completely.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
Thanks all.
Pity the next nearest waypoint is so far away.
Hope someone fixes it soon.
It’s like that one in LA- but my guess is it’s just lazy programmers can’t be bothered to fix it, after all it’s near the entrances for wvw…
Who cares if it’s near the entrances for WvW? Just press “B” and choose where you want to go. And if you want to leave WvW by using the asura gates, you won’t need the WP, either.
And we have to wait and see… LA has to be rebuilt first.
The Fort Mariner waypoint really had me confused for a while, since I figured it was just bugged from the event that happened there during the evacuation of Lion’s Arch. Living Story Season 2 talked about Mordremoth and waypoints, but it wasn’t until someone pointed it out on the forum that I made the connection.
Of course, if you haven’t played Season 2, it’s just confusing to have waypoints on the map that are always contested, even if there is no event that takes place there. You can see the waypoint is broken if you visit in person, but that’s easy to write off as a part of being contested if you’re not paying close attention to how waypoints look while they’re event-contested. (And who is? There’s an event going that demands attention.)
While it’s easy to get to WvW from the menu, Fort Mariner is also home to the only Guild Banker in Lion’s Arch. The plot about Mordemoth, ley lines, and waypoints makes sense, but it’s confusing, inconvenient, and I’m not sure it’s adding much to the game in this case.
Edit/Correction: Apparently Guild Registrars also give access to the bank, so there might be another one in Trader’s Forum in LA.

The Fort Mariner one makes 0 sense cause the whole battle for Lions Arch is over now. Been over for pretty much a year now. I honestly think a lot of them are just bugged. I’ve been to a few that were contested but as stated before none of them were under attack.

It wasn’t destroyed during the battle for Lions Arch.
It was destroyed later when Mordremoth awoke. And like with the rebuilding of Lions Arch, rebuilding waypoints takes a long long time.
Bad game design.

Incorrect, the Fort Mariner was specifically stated has having been destroyed during the attack on Lions Arch by Scarlet, whether it was destroyed because of the attack or because of Mordremoth waking up is fine line, but the devs stated it was during the attack on Lions Arch(in a much older thread about it being bugged).

No, he was correct. Fort Mariner was destroyed, yes, but the waypoint remained intact. Until Mordremoth’s tendrils did their massive advance across Tyria and ended up destroying it.

So wait does it have a giant tentacle sticking out of it then? If so WHY hasn’t the kitten Lionguard hacked it up yet?! Didn’t Tami make a device to fix these things?! It was in the LS! I still call laziness!
It was destroyed before Tami made the device. Her device only stopped progression whatever Mordy was doing to WPs with sucking their energy. Her device didn’t “fix” the WP in LA because it was completely destroyed so her device couldn’t prevent the destruction… Since it was already destroyed….. Chunks of it are still laying on the ground last I checked.
Also the tentacles are gone because of her device. Or for the WP in LA you could argue they are gone because it sucked up all the energy so there’s no reason for it to stick around.

flips table
Can they at least fix LA? I’m tired of looking at ruins and the same worker hammering the same plank over and over and over and over.
Actually they have made some great progress. The thing is they are all mesmers and they are using mesmer magic to make it look like they have made no progress. Their magic is so strong that you can still fall through the holes in bridges and such even tho it’s invisibly fixed.
This is confirmed by setting your graphics to low. You can see through their veil and notice that they aren’t using picks at all despite the clinging sound you hear as they move their arms up and down. I think at this point it may even be fixed and they are just purely there to maintain the illusion. After all Mordy won’t bother with LA if it’s already destroyed right? So they are actually pretty clever.
Interestingly this isn’t the first time mesmer magic has been used this way. If you remember back to living story 1 the krait mesmers used mesmer magic to build thier tower in the middle of the lake while no one noticed. The tower was apparently invisible and you were able to swim through it despite it being there and invisible.
If only my mesmer had such powers.
