What class is your main?
Ranger.
I don’t care what anyone else says, it’s what I enjoy playing and frequently what I have the easiest time with.
On the first day I made a ranger, elementalist, engineer and thief and I added a guardian not long after. (Having experimented with them all in the betas.) At first I played them all equally but the ranger quickly became my favourite. Which I kind of expected, it was the same in GW1 as well.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
Warrior
thief
15char…
It was Thief, then it was Ele.. Now it is Mesmer.
I don’t have a main. I play 4 of my classes equally with my ranger collecting dust as a secondary bank.
Mesmer, guardian, warrior, and Ele are what I play.
Warrior. Have been since previous games, too.
Mesmer.
Very engaging gameplay from this profession, and tons of tricks to uncover as you go. Gotta get past level 40, though. Those first levels are rough.
Dragonbrand
I haven’t found one yet. I usually play Mage types, but the mage in this game just isn’t a good fit for me(no long range burst, just all AE). Right now I’m working on Thief but disappointed with the class since I mostly WvW and they don’t function well in zergs. Also have Ranger and Warrior. Probably should just give up and make a Mesmer or Guardian like everyone else.
Necro.
I have lvl80 necro, war, guardian and leveling a mesmer.
I really like the dark theme of necro although I do feel a bit lacking in certain aspect of mechanic.
Full zerker war, it’s fun to see everything just melt with 100b but don’t feel it takes much skill.
Guardian, AH build, but I feel it’s a bit too nice, too soft, not manly enough.
Mesmer, just messing around with traits but I really like dual swording.
First main, Elementalist… Second main, Mesmer… Third and one true main, Guardian!
Mesmer!
Just so versatile and fun!
Guardian, with a currently levelling Engineer that will likely end up as my secondary (though I just started a Necro and she’s rather fun too).
Originally, I created a Ranger and got her all the way into her 60s but just wasn’t having much fun. I then created a Guard on a lark and fell in love almost instantly. My ranger did eventually get to 80 simply because she was already so close, but I barely even play her at all now.
Elementalist since beta.
I rolled an Engineer when I bought the game and that’s what I’ve stuck with so far.
Guardian as my main.
Engineer is my secondary as well. What’s this with guard-mains having engie seconds?
I guess maybe because the game is such a face-roll with guards, we want to experience some of the pain others feel.

I can understand this. I created a Warrior alt (level 14 currently) and am amazed at how different the gameplay is. I don’t like how gear-dependent the warrior is, and find myself carrying around tons of weapons and constantly running for repairs. There doesn’t seem to be much of a challenge to figuring out what skills to use. With the engineer I feel like the wrong skill at the wrong time has more of a cost associated with it (which I enjoy as a PvE’er).
Elementalist from the beginning. I usually stick with my first character as my main, and I’ve enjoyed the class a lot. I have alts that I play from time to time but I tend to focus primarily on a single character in MMOs.
I still consider my guardian as my main, he’s the one that get dibs when I get enough laurels for an ascended or dungeon tokens for a good looking piece of gear (of course, it helps that I already love how my mesmer looks with just the heritage set from HoM and I haven’t found a set of gear that would look better for him so far). I do play a lot of the other chars I have, though.. a mesmer and an engineer I’m slowly leveling..
wrapped up in some crazy ritualist hoo-ha from Cantha.
A real grab bag of ‘you can’t hurt me. They’re called Guardians.

Define main.
I consider my main my thief. Right from about 2 days after release she has been with me. However I rarely use her due to the party composition that I usually run with. She is full berserk d/d it had better did in 5 secs because I will in 7 otherwise. In dungeons with a glass cannon ele, ranger that seems more acrobatic than my thf, another thf who spends half his time invisible and the other half ranged my thf just doesn’t survive. That brings me to my guardian.
I play her when things gets serious,90% of my time these days,i made the legendary hammer for her and had full ascended stuff where my thf still has an odd rare here and there. However this may change soon because a lot of those i normally run with are now also doing guardians and warriors who can dungeon i’m able to let my thf have some stabby time.
Solo I love my thf, in dungeons I love my guardian (and a shout out to my other two alts, war and mesmer) but it all depends on who i’m running with that makes one preferable over the other.
When I first started playing I was really torn between Guardian and Mesmer. After playing them both equally for a while, I decided to stick with Guardian to level 80. Things went very well! I took my first steps into dungeons and didn’t feel like I was too horrible.
But then I just got an urge to continue my Mesmer and quickly forgot about my Guardian. I would eventually like to get all of the professions to 80, but if I team up with anybody be it for dungeons or WvW, it’s gotta be as my Mesmer.
Gemini Man (Mesmer) / Knight Man (Guardian)
I don’t really have a main right now. Though if I did it would probably be one of either my 2 warriors or 2 engies, then probably my ele. My guard, ranger, necro, thief/mesmer are less played (in that order).
Please give us a keyring…
I guess my main would be my Ranger, as it was my first level 80, and usualy the one I take on dungeons and events, but I have 6 80’s that I pretty much play on a semi-rotation.
First it was guardian, then mesmer and now I´ve 2 engineers.
And I love them! >:o
Guardian/Engineer/Mesmer
The rest are okay, except for the thief. I really don’t enjoy that class..
My main is an Elementalist, officially. He shares a name with my global handle, so he’s my most recognizable and iconic character. He’s my first 80, and my only character who’s got all his Exotic gear and even started on Ascended gear. He’s based on my main character from my first really heavily devoted MMO.
But I don’t like Staff or D/D, and find Scepter frustrating in practice even as the idea behind it appeals to me immensely. So he mostly sits in Lion’s Arch these days and serves as an extended bank.
My unofficial main is only 54. He’s a Charr Guardian, and I’ve spent more time logged into him than anyone else, because he’s my heaviest Roleplaying Character.
I have sixteen characters total, two of each class, 4 Humans and 3 of every other race. If ArenaNet gives me a third Heavy Armor class, that will become 6 humans. One of my Asura would be deleted and rerolled as the new class, because they’re the only race I don’t have a Heavy for right now. Then, for reasons of balancing the roster that are too arcane to elaborate here, I’d delete my 80 Norn Female Ranger and reroll her as a Thief, which is currently the “extra” Asura class. Then the 2nd Ranger would be a Human Female, because I already have a Human Male Thief and can’t double up on the same class in the same race (only possible for humans, everyone else is split with one of each armor class). If, on the other hand, they release a new Race first, my Sylvari Male Mesmer and Asura Female Thief will become a <New Race> Male Mesmer and Female Thief instead. If they release a new Scholar or Adventurer class instead of a new Soldier, or release more than one additional Races, I don’t know. My brain will probably melt.
My real main character is my Roster Spreadsheet. I need to go back and look at it for a while, because I think I’ve got an uneven gender spread in the Order of Whispers, and that crap can’t stand :-P
First I played an elementalist, now a guardian (actually: 3 of them…).
Depends on the content.
WvW – Main is currently my Ele but I have a 70 Ranger that will take over at 80.
Dungeons – Guardian
Dailies and world stuff – Currently my leveling Ranger, but my Ele will take over once my Ranger is my WvW main.
PvP – I don’t play enough to have a main.
This way I get to experience a variety depending on what I want to do. I can always swap them out for each other, but when I log in to do something, those characters are my first choices for said tasks.
:)
Xylani – 80 Ranger | Osoroshii – 80 Warrior
GoM [LGG][COI]
Axe / horn Warrior, though I really like the playstyle of sword / horn better. I stick with the axe for the dps.
I have a necro and recently started a thief, but I miss leveling the warrior. Actually thinking of rolling another.
Ya know, I think I would like it if you kept accumulating levels, even if your stats didn’t increase. At least I’d have a level number I could obsess over.
{SN} Sentimental Nightmares
Darsveth, Warrior – Dexter Oliver, Thief
Guardian has been my main since the Beta Weekends and it won’t change. I’ve never had so much fun playing a class in an MMO. I’ve played all the others in GW2 but none give me the satisfaction I get when playing a Guardian :P
Elementalist. I enjoy D/D, D/F, and Staff. Not too keen on the scepter – I think it’s clunky and incoherent.
Used to be Elem, but just found it too hard to survive.
Watched Mr Prometheus video and im a true believer, Mesmer all the way!
The class is so maneurverable so many escape mechanics, its a joy to play.
Trying a Guardian now, not having much luck, not fun in dying a million times.
Give us Mounts, Anet! Pretty Please with Chocolate, Whipped Cream, Cherry and Mayonnaise? d^_^b
A worgen warlock :-)
Necro,. We may not anywhere near the dps of the top three professions, but it just seems to fit me better. I have a warrior, guard and a thief all @ 80, and I was leveling a ranger. However, I find myself constantly trying to go into death shroud when I play one of these other professions, so now I just stick with what works for me.

Yep necro is tons more fun than those other classes. +1 for having good taste! I hate melee in this game ugh so boring.
Warrior after thief revealed nerf, leveling her now.
Lol @ worgen lock, human rogue here.
For PVE, it is the engineer. The versatility of the class lets me fill any role that is needed, and the AoE damage tears up the overworld enemies like they’re wet tissue paper. Need a healer? A tank? High AoE damage? Conditions? Control? All any group needs to know is that I am there, and should any problem arise I will solve it.
For WvW: The necromancer.
I used to say necro... but that class is unplayable.
So then I went engineer, and was loving the flamethrower/KR elixirgun build... but they decimated the engineer class, and I too am an inch from rage deleting my character.
I have a warrior, guard, ranger, and ele at 80, but the thieves I fight in WvW routinely do 15-20k in 3 or 4 hits...
So since everything is a free kill at this point, I’m starting to look for another game to play.
...maybe in a patch or two GW2 pvp will be something other than free kill, or zergball
Playing the engineer “as intended” is simply not viable.
in pve/wvw, i started the game as a mesmer and mained it for a while, but i retired it months ago and have been altoholic ever since. gradually, the necro has accumulated the most playtime out of my active chars, though it is still about equal with the dead mesmer’s playtime.
in pvp, i’m only rank 12, and virtually all of those matches were played back when i first started the game. haven’t done much since, though i’ve been thinking about it lately. anyways, my most played classes back then were necro, engi, ranger and guardian.
my first class was a thief by now my main is my necro
Elementalist, I roll bunker and lock and kill the enemy slowly, it’s a joy.
Warrior. It’s not the most engaging class but I love the damage I can do and the offensive buffing I can give the party with Banner of Discipline and For Great Justice
Guardian. I love my full berserker build, and being able to destroy with any weapon. I have absolutely no defense, but as a Guardian, it’s still really hard to die.
Server: Dragonbrand
Guild: [EDGE] Journeys Edge
Ranger.
No matter what anyone thinks about Rangers, I love mine to death. I made her a Legendary, got her the best gear, and I can take on pretty much anything in regular PvE without any trouble at all. I also bring her to dungeons and WvW, and with my build, I am surprisingly difficult to kill.
She is my favourite, and I have the most fun with her I have all the classes, and duplicates of a few, but no one comes close to being as fun as my bowmistress!
Elementalist.
I started off GW1 with an ele, and now I continue it for sentiment/legacy. I know that sounds a bit stupid but mastering an ele on this was harder than the original. These guys can fight up close and fight well with devastating damage if they’re geared up right, and without the use of an aggro-bubble (or a compass for that matter), I was very used to fighting from the outer.
I have one of each profession so I’ll gradually find out which is my fave over time.
“Obtaining a legendary should be done through legendary feats…
Not luck and credit cards.”
I have every character to 80, but mostly use Ranger due to its ease in PvE, next is usually Warrior or Mesmer..
(edited by Dante.1508)
I too have leveled different professions to at least 35 or higher and out of those the Guardian is the only one I didn’t delete, not that the other professions are bad professions, just that I am now and will always stick with leveling and maxing out one character at a time, if that’s even possible.
Out of all the professions I enjoy the Guardian the most. If I ever max him out and still playing Guild Wars I will go with the Warrior.
If there is always something new to go for then the Guardian will be my one and only character.
Engineer.
I decided on engineer long before the game started because at the time and during the first month they actually could fill one of the three roles that they setout for their players, DPS. But alas those days have long since gone, and the only thing left now are a few PVP builds that people keep using over and over again until those will be nerfed next.
Got tired of it and rolled a thief.
Ranger.
I have a Warrior, Guardian, Elementalist and a Mesmer as well, but I always go back to the Ranger. By far the most fun of all my characters, I have him almost completely geared out and he’s very tough.
I don’t care what anyone says, I love the Ranger class and when played well they’re a very good class.
What’s a main?
JAH Bless – Equal Rights and Justice for all.
Justice And Honor – Tarnished Coast.
